RE: Cable TV down Sat TV Cable

My factory installed satellite cable does not pass through the booster on the roof antennae but my cable tv port DOES so at least in my case the same port would not work for both. Yours may be different. Probably the best way to find out is to hook it up and see how it works.

RE: Control Panel

Go ahead and use your water pump you CAN not harm it. Even if the tank is empty it will not damage your pump since it does not use water to cool itself. Your monitor probably is not wired correctly or possibly not even installed but its relatively unimportant as most learn to NOT depend on tank monitors anyway. Good luck / Skip

Forum is nearly unusable

I find that over half of the posts end up giving the "connection reset" message when I try to post my reply. I see many other posts that have four or five responses or identical threads so apparently it's not my computer with the problem. Just thought I'd mention it (in case nobody else has noticed or in case it actually allows this thread to be posted :)

RE: Looking for A New TT. RV Direct? or RVW?

Both companies have a very good reputation for delivering what they promise and very low prices. I purchased my Rockwood from RV Direct MAINLY because I had a trailer I wanted to trade in and RVW did not deal with trades. They delivered the trailer they promised, on time and at the agreed on price (almost). In order to make the delivery date they had to substitute a different trailer for the one I ordered so I got a couple of options on the trailer that I had not ordered (at no charge). The trailer has been near perfect from day one. Good luck / Skip

RE: Wheel bearing dust seals?

NO reason to replace dust covers. They should be able to be reused numerous times. If you're talking about grease seals, then just take an old one in with your and they can match them up. Make notes so after another 40,000 miles or so you won't have lost the part number :) I guess another option would be to purchase a second set now and carry them with you.

RE: dishes vs paper plates

Depends on what we're eating. Some meals just don't go well with paper plates or even plastic plates. We often used paper when we stopped for a quick lunch (sandwich etc) but most meals were on melmarine SP or similar plastic dinnerware.

RE: Sheets for king size bed

Most RV beds are nowhere NEAR as thick as normal mattresses making it difficult to find sheets that fit. My advice is to buy VERY CHEEP sheets as they will shrink (a lot) and you may have a suitable fit.

RE: Extreme Water Conservation- Share your secrets?

Here's one from my years of backpacking. We used to carry freeze dried water with us since it was much lighter than the reconstituted stuff (like used in canteens etc). When it was time to actually use some you merely added water and shake it up a little bit :) On a slightly more SERIOUS note, (again from backpacking experience) I carried a small 4 oz bottle half full of iodine crystals in my pack. When starting a trip I fill the bottle with water (any source will do) and put it back in the pack. When you need to replenish the water in your canteen you do so from any available water source then add 2 drops of iodine from the bottle for each 16 oz of water. The iodine sterilizes the water by killing all bacteria and creepy crawlies in the water, making it potable. When the iodine became low in the bottle you simply filled it again with water. Iodine will only dissolve to a specific solution so after a few hours in the bottle it had the same strength as the original. They TELL me that there are specific health hazards in using iodine as a water purifier but it's the method I used for quite a few years with no ill effects. Good luck / Skip

RE: Furnace burning to hot

Check where your thermostat is located compared to the heat duct. It SOUNDS like it may be short cycling because the heat is blowing directly on the thermostat. Good luck / Skip

RE: Eastern Idaho near Tetons & Yellowstone?

The trip you mention is certainly possible but it's VERY tame country compared to going through Yellowstone. Mostly just rolling hills up until you're almost to West Yellowstone Montana. Not Unpleasant scenery but nothing at all like on the Wyoming side of the range. I believe much of the way is through part of the Snake River Plane.

RE: want a TV for my TT but am confused

You can use either an analog TV (purchased used) with a converter box or just about any new tv (they will all have digital tuner. Either will work just fine with your powered batwing antennae. Good luck / Skip

RE: Ok here we go

My 34 foot 8,000 lb. travel trailer has a tongue weight of 1,200 lb. I suspect you're reading those brochure weights that have NOTHING to do with actual weight.

RE: Emergency Road Service

IN ten years of membership with AAA I used them EXCLUSIVELY to get free travel maps. Finally wised up and found a much cheaper (free) source for travel maps :)

RE: Funeral Edict?

I think I'd have stopped for the funeral procession whether my lane ran out or not, though it's probably not necessary on an Interstate type highway. If the lane quits I'm SURE I would have stopped before merging with them.

RE: Puncture precautions - what do you do?

I carry two spare tires. One for the trailer and one for the truck. It's always worked for me.

RE: Are We Crazy?

Who will the children play with? I guess that would be my only concern. Officially though us NON toy hauler folks have been asked by the toy hauler moderator to NOT comment on matters concerning toy haulers.

RE: Banking while on the road

Local Credit Union. Full on line banking with no fees, Interest bearing checking account, automatic bill paying with no fees, debit card with international privileges with no fees (domestic or international) and with automatic currency conversion, and direct deposit of all means of income. For what it's worth, BOA would be in line right behind Mr Madof as a trusted partner in any financial dealings.

RE: Extended Service Contract: SAL Protection Plan

Like MOST aftermarket insurance policies, you are paying for additional warranty on many items that already are covered at no charge for three years. EVERYTHING on your RV should be covered for at LEAST one year and often for two years then you're paying for someone else to cover it for that same time frame. Most components of your RV are covered for at least three years (fridge, air conditioner etc). Nothing WRONG with that as long as you realize it when making your decision. Good luck / Skip

RE: long hitch shank?

Be aware that if you are using an extra long shank it will derate your trucks receiver (carries less weight safely). I'd suggest you check your trucks receiver rating and compare to the loaded tongue weight of your trailer to be sure you're within what it can handle. Good luck / Skip
