RE: State Parks

Unless someone has a REASON to be "after you" you've just been watching too many movies. No reason a state park wouldn't be every bit as safe as a National park, Federal campgrounds operated by any of the agencies or camping is disbursed areas. If you concerned about campgrounds you might try RV parks or RV resorts.

Not worth the effort. Just replace it.

Horsepower or cubic inches are a VERY BAD single indication of carrying capacity OR towing capacity.

RE: Has any one used Carlisle tires?

Carlisle TRAILER tires are NOT American made and don't THINK they ever were. They used to have one of the worst reputations of any of the Chinese built tires. Many have good luck and others watch them blow up and damage their trailers. The ONLY American made ST tire is the Goodyear Marathon and even THAT depends on just when you buy it as it bounces back and forth a lot. My advice is to stick with the Maxxis (best ST rated tire on the market) which is made in Thailand. I've averaged over 40,000 miles per set on my last two sets of Maxxis.

RE: Parrot crossing state line: Has anyone needed paperwork?

Not sure just WHERE you would go to present any required papers since NO STATE I know of requires inspection to cross. California USED to have a produce stop where you declare produce you might be bringing in but I believe even they stopped that years ago. Can't say for sure about Canada but they sure never even questioned if we had ANY animals in our RV at any crossing we ever made.

RE: Manufacturer Hiearchy?

I would DOUBT if any manufacturer would list any of their brands as "worst" :) Best to actually LOOK an an RV, study the details and make your own decisions about what is "BEST" because anything you get from the dealer will be strictly price dependent and that is NOT the measure of quality.

RE: Best place to get new batteries?

I buy batteries from a local merchant who sells NOTHING but batteries and related stuff. Beats online prices for Trojan T105 (even if you get free shipping) by about 20%. Where the best place to purchase depends on where you are and what kind of battery you're looking for.

RE: mission to canyon lake tx

I agree that SA isn't a problem other than heavy traffic times of day. I usually don't chance it and take the Anderson Loop (1406 I believe it is) and be sure to take the Eastern Loop to avoid lots of stop lights on the west loop. It's an easy off situation from I-37

I agree that it's scenic and I vote scenic ALWAYS. Had no problems with my previous 26 foot trailer and wouldn't hesitate to tow the 34 footer if in the area.

RE: Rockwood wheel bearing failures

I have the same bearings on my Rockwood as came from the factory (70,000 miles ago). I lube them every two years or 30,000 miles, whichever occurs first. You may have defective spindles that is causing your bearing failure. I'd also recommend you review your traveling weight for possible overloading.

RE: Hitch Class

I would expect you would have a class IV receiver on most half ton trucks. This gives a maximum tongue weight of between 500 and 600 lb. and from 1,000 to 1,200 lb. with WD system in use.

RE: Estes Park No kids/pets

Neither route is a difficult pull by any means (4% to 5% grades). Might consider camping inside the park. Both dogs and kids are welcome at all park campgrounds but sites are MUCH more widely spaced so they're not apt to be a bother to you.

RE: UV filteration in FW tank...

UV rays will dissipate the chlorine in the water and this chlorine already does what you're trying to do. UV rays are the REASON you need to continually add chlorine to swimming pools to keep algae blooms from happening.

RE: GMC 6.2 max tow

There is a lot more than just axle rating to big payload capability. It has to do with brakes, frame strength, transmission, cooling systems etc. When you find the information on the 6.2 check out the RPM range where the big torque is found.
Good luck with your decision / Skip
