RE: Thinking about dumping the landline

Again, you all are awesome with all the responses. I now have several avenues we can explore and see what DH and I can agree on which would best serve our purposes. Thanks to all of you! Please continue with any ideas you have.

RE: Thinking about dumping the landline

Wow! Thank you, everyone, for your responses. If there are more options out there as well, do not hesitate to mention them. One of the main reasons is that we have found we normally don't even pick up a handset for our landline to call anyone. DH is self-employed and he gives his customers our landline number for contacting him (he doesn't want just everyone knowing his cellphone #), thus the reason for wanting to port it. We use our cellphones for almost everything else. I will have to do some research on the Google Voice option...it does sound intriguing. Thanks again!

Thinking about dumping the landline

DH and I have briefly thought of dumping the landline. First of all, we wish to port our existing home phone number should we do so. The options we seem to be coming up with are: 1. Purchase a dedicated prepaid cellphone (most likely Straight Talk) and port our home phone # to it. 2. Purchase a MagicJack Plus and port our home phone # to it if allowed. 3. Possibly enroll with Skype. If anyone has ideas as to which of those options is the best (and hopefully most cost-saving), we are open to your input. Any other options suggested would also be appreciated. DH has been squeamish about getting rid of the landline, but we are one of the areas that Verizon sold out to Frontier. Within just a couple of months after the Frontier takeover, our phone bill increased at least 10-15 dollars a month. It is now in the same price category as the unlimited Straight Talk plan and we think just the $30 plan would be sufficient for it, as he, our son and I all have personal cellphones in addition to the home phone. Our reason for wanting to keep our home phone # is for our family and friends who have known it for years. Again, all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

RE: This Is Getting Old

So sad. The little girl passed away that they found in a field. The entire family was killed by the tornado. DH is going with a group from our church to help with the relief efforts. It will take a long time for all that were affected to recover and the emotional impact will be long-lasting. Prayers out to everyone.

RE: This Is Getting Old

The most recent report is that there are 14 dead from the tornadoes here in Indiana as well as 20 in Kentucky. A little 2 year old girl was found in a field 10 miles from her home and is in critical condition in a hospital in Louisville KY. Her mother and siblings were all killed by the tornado. Reports are that it completely wiped out Marysville IN. My DH is a core weather spotter and was tracking the storms the majority of the day and sending me updates via text to me so I could keep abreast of the situation. Prayers go out for all who were affected by the storms.

RE: Going Full time

God bless you for your service and many thanks. A former co-worker of mine once lived in a single-wide manufactured home. Any time that she was able to obtain packing peanuts for free, she would tie them up in 30-gallon trash bags and throw them underneath for additional insulation besides the skirting.

RE: New Flip House Story With Pictures

Lisa, That looks scarily identical to the one that my now departed grandfather used to own in Florida when we visited him in 1994. The only difference was he didn't live on the water.

RE: Straight Talk...Bring your own GSM phone coming 2-7-12

My husband got his Straight Talk 'bring your own phone' sim card today (he ordered it overnight shipping). It is running off the AT&T towers but they also have a roaming agreement with T-Mobile. He is anxious to see how it works when he is out and about. If it works well, our son may decide to get the sim card as well.

RE: Straight Talk phones..another question added

My son and I both have Nokia E71's. I just noticed on their website a couple of days ago that they are now offering the Nokia E5. My son and I are both happy with our E71's. Much better than the Samsung's we had before.

RE: Planning on Full-Timing, but have some questions.

As the mother of an 18 year old son myself, I say 'Go For It'! You sound very mature and articulate. It would please me greatly if my son would decide to choose an RV as his first home in the future, and I plan to continue putting a bug in his ear about it :)

RE: RIP, Boss

He definitely was a wonderful person. At random times, he would tell one of us that we were his 'favorite'. Of course, whoever was the favorite could change multiple times during the day :) He had so many phrases that he used such as "I'm just peachy", "I don't want to ramble on", etc. But every day he would stop by each room within the office and ask if there was anything he could do for us. He was the epitome of a servant-leader. We were proud to have him as our boss as well. In fact, today we tossed around the idea that we may plant a peach tree on the grounds our office building is at in his memory.

RE: Thunderbird email - cannot send

Thanks, everyone, for your replies. I did indeed change my outgoing server setting to my already established gmail account. I am hoping that will resolve any issues for the long-term, as I am not one to make changes in my computer unless absolutely needed. Most of this simply because my DH drives me nuts with his DAILY wiping out his hard drive and reinstalling everything. EEK!!! On another note, I wish each and every one of you a happy Independence Day and hope everyone has taken the time to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy. A special thank you to all our servicemen, past, present and future.

RE: Thunderbird email - cannot send

We already tried that. My husband has been on the phone with tech support this evening but they said they don't support Thunderbird email and therefore won't make any suggestions. I first noticed the issue a couple of days when I attempted to send email from my smartphone using my ISP address which had worked before. Then this morning it wouldn't send from my netbook. I guess maybe I should just wait a day or so and try again to see if the problem has resolved itself.

Thunderbird email - cannot send

Is anyone else having the same issue that I am having with Thunderbird email. It was working fine until the last day or so. I can receive emails but it will not send one out using my ISP email account. I have finally worked around it temporarily by using my gmail account but I would much prefer to have my normal ISP email account as my default to send email out. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

RIP, Boss

My boss passed away this morning. The Friday night before Father's Day, he collapsed. The entire office staff has been in kind of a limbo ever since and many tears had already been shed as he was loved and respected by all of us. We will miss him dearly. He was certainly one of a kind and no one can ever replace him as far as we are concerned. One lesson we have learned, if you have a story to share with your boss, do so. Most of us have said there are so many wonderful things that we would have told him that we liked about him had we known his time was short.

RE: Interested in fulltiming questions..

MysticTuna, First of all, welcome to the forum! When I was 22, I purchased a park model trailer and lived in it for five years in a local mobile home park. I wouldn't trade that experience in my life. It taught me a lot about myself and helped me find my strengths as well as my weaknesses. I admit living in a park model stationary in a park is not the same as traveling to different places, but the knowledge that it belongs to YOU is invigorating! Best wishes to you on your adventure!

Kenyon/Faribault MN area

Is there anyone here on rv.net forum that lives in or near or is at least familiar with the Kenyon/Faribault MN area? We will be leaving early tomorrow morning to attend a friend's wedding and it would be very helpful if someone could suggest a fairly inexpensive place for lodging for at least a couple of nights. The cheaper the better but no dives, please. My search could not come up with something like a Motel 6 which is what motel chain we usually search for or something in the range of those types of rates. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

RE: Another TT for us

Nice! I lived in a '75 Nomad park model trailer for 5 years. Congrats on your new toy there and enjoy!
