RE: 2011 Nissan Titan SWB - 5th/TT questions.

I think the Titan is a very good tow vehicle when within specs (we used to tow a 30 foot Surveyor around 5500 lbs with my wife's 2007 Armada without any problems at all). My humble opinion is that both the 5th wheel and TT you have listed are way into a minimum of 3/4 ton territory if those are unloaded weights.

In addition to the tow rating being at or higher than the GVWR of the trailer, people also look at the payload capacity of the truck. Most 1/2 tons have a low payload rating. I see you mentioned that your payload is 1,310 lbs. The weight of the hitch, tongue weight of the trailer, cargo in truck, weight of people in truck, etc all get subtracted off of the payload capacity. I think the trailer you have listed is well within the specs of your truck. There are lighter weight trailers around the same length that you could look at also that might have a lower hitch weight and lower GVWR. I spent right at about $1,000 to have my gears changed (might have actually been a little more). I only have a 4X2 so they just had to change the rears. You need to look at the gears, synthetic gear oil, and the labor. You definitely want someone that knows what they are doing to change the gears. My original trailer was a Forest River Surveyor 291 which was a great trailer. It was a light weight and was around 30 feet long with a GVWR under 7000 lbs (around 5000 lbs unloaded). The floors were a lighter weight along with the aluminum build all away around with fiberglass (only one small slide). My new trailer has a GVWR of about 10500 lbs with an unloaded weight of around 7500 lbs. The length is only about 31 feet. The floors are much higher weight along with wood build all away around still with fiberglass (two large slides). My heaver one seems like a stronger build, but who knows. Good luck with your search.

I think that is a very good match. I would not bother changing gears at this point. Since you have a 4X4 you are looking at about 2,000 US dollars for that job. I am assuming the hitch receiver would be 1000 lbs weight distributing, but I could be wrong on that. You most definitely need a weight distribution hitch (I like the integrated Equalizer brand hitch that I use) and a brake controller (I use a prodigy).
