RE: Electric tongue jack mod

The one long wire goes to the positive post on the battery. The ground is the bolts that fasten the jack to the TT. The some sort of red wire has some sort of purpose ??? There should be instruction is the box that it came in.

RE: Locks on outside shower

I allways thought the outside shower had a key lock on it to keep someone like a curious kid from coming along and playing with the shower. I could be wrong though. Wouldn't be the first time. LOL
Or how about a friend opening the valves and turning off the shower head? :B

RE: Fresh water tanks

Issue each one 2 gal jugs of water to use for the weekend for brushing, washing etc. to help them learn how to conserve on water.

RE: Tire size - will my rims work?

We have the same tire. Our rims are stamped with MAX 75# PSi next to the valve stems. The are also stamped with 15 X 6 JJ indicating a 6" bead width.

RE: 320 Watts Unisolar and 200 Amp Hours of AGM

100 AH a day seems high since you will not be using the microwave. We use 35 to 50 AH depending on if we watch TV

RE: Yet again another question in towing & the numbers

Another thing to consider is the Tires. You probably have P rated tires. Make sure you are running the max pressure on the tire sidewall (44PSI?) If you can find light truck tires in the same size you may be able to decrease the wandering.

RE: Batteries. So You Want To Get Technical...

I think I am only beginning to understand that although the "smart chargers" like PD and Iota are an improvement over the older constant voltage chargers, they are not the end-all for battery maintenence. The post by Mexbungalows to us to use a plain 10amp charger that will supply a 15 volt charge on 100% charged batteries for 20-30min every two weeks will help to maintain battery life.
It has taken a while for me to begin to understand the cyrptic comments by Mexbungalows, but the light has begun to glow however dimly. :)

RE: Batteries. So You Want To Get Technical...

Here is the website. There are two books. Good reading and peer revued.
Of particular interest to me was the section on charging. Although this site is about EV equipment with large batteries with 6 hr discharge rates, I think that interpretive reading can give an insight to the care and feeding of the batteries that RV'rs buy and use.

RE: **** room air conditioner ****

Most of the window AC's are about 5000BTU's, the roof top units are either 13,500 or 15,000BTU's. There are smaller rooftops for popups and truck campers.

RE: Fuel mileage

The 16' Camplite trailer has a dry weight of 2700# and the GVWR is 5000#. The height is 9.5'. I have a similar height and Weight trailer and I get 9-10MPG with the same TV.
It is not so much the weight but the heighth and wind resistance (drag) that causes the reduction in MPG. A pop-up would give you more fuel efficiency because of the lower profile

RE: Carrying water in TT

The thing you have to ask FIRST is how close is my trl weight to maxing out the truck? Can you safely haul and addition 400lbs? Personally I'd fill up when I get to the campground and carry a couple empty 5 gl jugs to refill as needed.
IMHO if 400# will max out the TV, then either the truck is not enough truck or the trailer is too big for the truck.
We almost always camp in campgrounds that have no services and we find it handy to have water along with us.
We find no difference in handling full of water going or empty when returning.

RE: Carrying water in TT

An additional 400# of water will not make a measurable difference in MPG and as Skip indicated the convenience of having it aboard when traveling is why we always travel with full water.

RE: Batteries - Charging - Electrical - Etc.

Optima batteries have the least available capacity for the most money. They can be good starting batteries but no so good for house batteries.
