RE: Roadtrek Macerator Redux

RoadTrek did not give me a part number, for my dealer to install it was going to be big bucks, if I am correct I was quoted approximately $500 parts, installed at the factory. The gate valve's are in the outside storage area to feed the slinky. I choose to devise my own emergency clean out, I do not have a bunch of adapters, slinky is stored in a tube under the rear of the RoadTrek, I have posted photo's in the past of my parts, slinky, tube for slinky storage, cost $20.00 - $30.00. RE: Roadtrek Macerator Redux

In response to (gonetothedogs1) regarding a way to modify the RoadTrek system to allow a conventional gravity drain discharge, I was informed by RoadTrek that they would be able to modify my system. RoadTrek designed the system and it could have been installed on my RoadTrek the spring of 2011. This gravity system is the same set up as I had in my 2002 Dodge RoadTrek 190 Popular, same system as in all the older models. I would have both the Macerator and the slinky hose gravity discharge system, my RoadTrek dealer would install the slinky hose gravity system, mine would have been the first for my RoadTrek dealer to install. By having my RoadTrek dealer install the gravity system cost would have been high as they never installed one, which I understood. If I took it to the RoadTrek factory, cost would have been much less. I would have had RoadTrek do the job as they have the know how on installing, for RoadTrek it would have been a simple installation. I did not have it done as I was determined that I would devise a secondary emergency gravity discharge system using the slinky hose, which I did devise. Photo's of RoadTrek's secondary gravity system as if it were installed in my RoadTrek. Protecting Macerator Hose under Vehicle Carriage

Thinking about covering the exposed Macerator Hose under the vehicle carriage of my 2010 RoadTrek 190 Popular protecting it from Road Debris with a piece of 1-1/2" PVC pipe by cutting the PVC in half from end to end Would then cover the Macerator Hose with the PVC pipe and securing the PVC pipe with Hose Clamps. Wondering if this would work, or utilizing some others means of protecting the exposed Macerator Hose under the vehicle carriage from Road Debris. RE: Roadtrek Macerator Redux

Robert, I also questioned this individual about RoadTrek installing the Gravity Feed Waste Dump System, as I had you in mind, as RoadTrek would not install the refrigerator that you wanted, but was installed by your selling dealer. This individual insisted that RoadTrek installed it and not the selling dealer. Guess the only ones that really know is the purchaser of the RoadTrek, selling dealer, and RoadTrek. Maybe the owner of this RoadTrek is on this forum and would let us know, or the selling dealer, or RoadTrek, doubt that will happen, but you never know. Ron

RE: Roadtrek Macerator Redux

This past March when in FL I was talking with an individual who owns a RoadTrek, he informed me that he knows an individual who owns a new RoadTrek. This individual wanted to order a RoadTrek, insisted that he did not want the Macerator Pump, would only order if the Gravity Feed Waste Dump System was installed in place of the Macerator Pump. As such he was able to order from RoadTrek a new RoadTrek with the Gravity Feed Waste Dump System. Ron

RE: Roadtrek Macerator Redux

Would it not be wiser for those who have the CleanOut Plug just to take off the CleanOut Plug and squirt Mineral Oil directly to the Macerator Pump? My 2010 RoadTrek 190 does have the CleanOut Plug. RE: Roadtrek Macerator Redux

I sympathize with you, I have a 2010 RoadTrek 190 Popular ordered brand new, my ShurFlo Macerator also broke down on me, and was replaced with another. A year later the second Macerator pump would not work, this happened while vacationing in St Augustine FL, and was taken to a RoadTrek dealership in St Augustine. It was found that it was slightly blocked with toilet paper, paid over $250 for service. We use the RV toilet paper, use the proper chemicals, prior to dumping both Gray and Black holding tanks are filled with water. After dumping I then fill the black tank with one to 2 gallons of water. I have been told by 2 RV service technicians not to deposit toilet paper in the toilet, rather deposit it in a proper container. I do not deposit toilet paper in the toilet have a special container, and have had no problems with the Macerator Pump. Also, have spoken with several RoadTrek owners who will not deposit toilet paper in the toilet. One of the service technicians I spoke to owns a RV with the Macerator Pump, he will not deposit toilet paper in the toilet. I have since made an emergency secondary dumping method using the slinky gravity hose if need be. I like the Macerator Pump, but still prefer the slinky gravity hose, I know of an individual who was interested in purchasing a RoadTrek seeing that it had a Macerator Pump he would not purchase it. He purchased another well known Class B which does not have the Macerator Pump rather has the gravity slinky hose which can be attached and un-attached when dumping then stored in a compartment. He also has a portable macerator pump which he can attach and un-attach in place of the gravity slinky hose. Ron

Exide Type E-3600 Battery Question

I have the following 2 house batteries: Exide - Type E-3600 - Group Size GC2 - R/C Min 25 AMP 390 - Golf Cart/Electric Vehicle. Servicing the Battery Box I noticed that the cells exposed the Plates, is water added? Believe I read at one time water should not be added to the Exide Golf Battery. I do not have any information on the Exide battery. Never had this type of battery. Ron

RE: PW STW generator removal

Like retraite, I take along a Honda Eu1000i as it fits under the bed/sofa against the rear door. I take it with us when traveling to FL like now. Should the Onan quit working I have the Honda to run a small Ceramic Heater if needed. I also have a Honda Eu2000i, would take it if I am towing our Haulmark 5x10 enclosed cargo trailer, which is kept in the trailer. The Honda Eu2000i does operate the AC in our RoadTrek. Ron

FMCA > Macerator Pump

I received the following E-mail from Pamela Kay Director of Communications at Family Motor Coaching, FMCA. She also included a response from Arthur Vaughn a FMCA member, thought I would share Arthur's tip regarding Macerator Pumps with all. Ron Hello, Ron. Your letter about the issues you were experiencing with the macerator pump in your Roadtrek motorhome appears in the February 2012 issue of Family Motor Coaching magazine. I am hoping that since you wrote to us in the spring, you have resolved your concerns and are enjoying trouble-free motorhoming. But just in case you are still experiencing difficulties, below is a response we received from a fellow member offering some tips. Sincerely, Pamela Kay Director of Communications From: Arthur Vaughn Sent: Saturday, January 28, 2012 6:44 PM To: techtalk@fmca.com Subject: Re Ron Cabral tech talk Feb 2012 I have used a macerator for several years. First, make sure you are not skimping on the use of water in the black tank. Second, open the gray water valve to pre fill the inlet to the macerator. Third, close the gray water valve and open the black water valve. Forth, turn on the macerator. When the black tank is empty, turn off the macerator, leave the black valve open, and open the gray water valve. This will let soapy water flow into the black tank, wait a minuet then close the gray valve. Turn the macerator back on and re-empty the black tank. Do this 2-3 times. Then close the black valve, open the gray valve and turn the macerator on and finish emptying that tank. This will clean the macerator impeller and be ready for the next time. I don't think gravity has a lot to do with the problem Ron is having do to the fact that the macerator is generating a great suction when running, thus, make sure pump is NOT running when valves are closed. I think the fuse blowing problem is from material left in the impeller and it is solidifying. Macerators have a hole behind the motor with a screwdriver slot in the end of the motor shaft. A short stubby flat bladed screwdriver can be used to turn the shaft, WITH MACERATOR SWITCH OFF, and free the motor, this should work if a fuse blows. Works for me. Hope this helps. Art

RE: Roadtrek 190

Van City RV has a 2011 RoadTrek 190 Popular listed for $92,527.00, sale price is $80,527.00. Who is the dealer that has the 2011 RoadTrek 190 listed for $107,000.00? The $107,000.00 list price sounds like the price for a 210 RoadTrek. Ron

Video #2: Rollin' On TV Tours Sportsmobile West

Read the following on RV Business - Breaking RV Industry News, was wondering if anyone has seen this weekly series. Today’s video is the first installment in a weekly series from Rollin’ On TV featuring a report on custom Class B builder Sportsmobile West, Fresno, Calif., and a segment on dutch oven cooking. In a newly formed partnership with Rollin’ On TV, RVBUSINESS.com will be running weekly videos offering an informed look at the RV industry and the lifestyle from a consumer’s perspective. Rollin’ On TV, based in Mattapoisett, Mass., was born from the economic downturn in 2008, says Executive Producer Jose “Joe” Moniz. Prior to the downturn, the production company was producing Boating Today TV, the country’s top boating lifestyle program that had a household reach of over 55 million homes from 1999 to 2009. Following the same business concept as Boating Today TV, Moniz created an RV program that would be “entertaining and informative for the viewer and all the while being a marketing tool for the RV industry.” In addition to in-depth stories and shorter, instructive segments, Rollin’ On TV produces 90% of the ads while maintaining a fluid website that offers a range of industry-specific news, information and entertainment. Rollin’ On TV airs multiple times each week on various Fox, ABC and CW stations throughout the country along with regional sports networks like Cox Sports and MIDCO Sports. A complete listing of stations and times is available on the company’s website at www.rollinontv.com. The current schedule calls for adding three more affiliate stations and one new sports network beginning in April which combined will add another 9.5 million homes, bringing Rollin’ On TV’s total household reach to around 35 million homes. Turtle Top Weekender Vans

Back in 1990 ordered a Turtle Top Week-Ender Van, Model W17-4, friend of mine also ordered a Turtle Top Week-Ender Van, Model W17-3. Both units were on the 1990 Ford Econoline 150 Chassis. Another friend of ours ordered the W19, forget if it was the W19-3 or W19-4 The Turtle Top Week-Ender was a good unit, had the Porta-Potti, I ordered with all available options. It was garaged kept, liked it so much kept it for nine years. My friend kept his W17-3 for 15 years, also garaged kept. RE: What Did You Do To Your Class B Today ?

Made and installed sliding draws in the cabinet below the sink Used the Center Under mount Drawer Slide, instead of one center under mount drawer slide I used 2 for each draw. Made what I call Jersey Barrier's for each shelf, able to store small items on the side of each sliding draw allowing the draws to operate freely with no interference.
