RE: Truck Camper bicycle rack?

Used two hooks designed for the purpose to hold wife's LWB recumbent to the ladder vertically, and used bungee cords for security. Worked great. For those not familar with 'bents, the RANS Stratus XP is 8' long and weighs about thirty pounds.
Ladder mounts are fine.

RE: Can I put a reveiver on the campers bumper

I'd bet that the camper bumper hitch was used for a back porch or bike rack.
+1 whatever the hitch is attached to has to be able to handle the pull of your 2000# trailer; what's that constructed of - wood? Or would the turnbuckles hold your camper down succumb to that same weight pulling to the rear? Find the weakest point in the setup and dedide if that one point is strong enough.
No expert here, but this one seems like a no-brainer.

RE: Good or Bad DIY? let me have it.

I'm no expert on suspensions, but I'm curious how much of a beating those wood shims can and will take; how long until they rot...
I guess I don't see them lasting long.

RE: THE HEAVY DUTY F150 HAS ARRIVED - First report ...

Perhaps a grating/screen of some type under the inter-cooler to prevent rock damage. Make sure it's something that breathes well.
We're in the same position: I just sold my beloved B, purchased a new GMC 3500, and I'm looking for the TC. Good luck with your search.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Jeff it can get in anywhere, then run betwwen the inner and outer walls and collect at the low point, where it does the damage. Check everything that has a seal: window, vents, AC. The leak doesn't need to be right around the damage.

RE: Fuel Mileage

Obviously I haven't compared upkeep costs Oil changes, fuel filters etc.
Just keep telling self "I like all that power"
Don't forget to factor in the life expectancy of the engine and transmission. More miles per engine definitely offsets the cost

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Installed the Torklift tie downs on the new truck. Only a couple of hours, though I learned a few lessons on the first. Can't get a air powered tool onto the biggest bolt due to space limitations. Had to to tighten those two on the front by hand,
My muscles will be sore in the morning...

RE: Another Weight Question

I don't think 'add ons' designed to improve handling are a safe substitute for cargo capacity: an overweight rig has safety issues, not o ly for your passengers but other motorists as well. I prefer a good safety margin below the rated capacity.
Just my personal $.02

RE: What else do I need?

Thanks for the TCU suggestion - I didn't know about it. It will save a lot of simple questions.

RE: What else do I need?

Thanks Sue. Our auto insurance company would not cover our class B, so I was unsure how TCs were handled. I'd like to install solar on whatever we buy, so I'll have to look in to how a TC is wired.

RE: What else do I need?

More newbie questions (random)
I'm assuming TCs are titled? Interested in transferring Indiiana titles - just found an interesting one for sale across the Ohio Indiana border.
Insured through car insurance separately from vehicle?
Are house batteries for a TC stored in the camper or external to the unit?
These seem simple questions but I don't want to make an assumption.

RE: Truck Campers

The point of a TC is to avoid campgrounds....
We love mobility and going places a trailer can't be taken. We had a B and just sold it, because of sleeping considerations ( getting older). The 4x4 TC will go places even th B couldn't. When we get older and feeble, then the truck will pull a 5er. But for now, it's the remote wilderness we enjoy.
All other considerations are secondary
With a B though, you don't have to unload. Everything goes along.then, you don't have to unload a TC either.
It all depends on what you want to do.

RE: What else do I need?

Palomino uses a 7-pin Pollack RV plug, but BEWARE, it is NOT wired to the typical RV standard. Found that out the hard way...
Hopefully not in a way that caused any electrical damage...
Thanks for the info.

RE: What else do I need?

Thank you both for the replies.
Dave, I wasn't thinking of suspension type upgrades - didn't occur to me - but the truck is a 2012 GMC 3500HD LB dually with a diesel engine and Allison tranny. We're looking a Maverick 2902, which has a dry weight just under 3000 lbs. CC on the truck is about 5300 lbs. Not planning on towing anything.
Kerry - Thanks. I'll wait until we get the unit, then. I'd be intersted in learning more about your solar setup...

What else do I need?

Ordered Torklift tie downs and turnbuckles for the truck. What else will I need before purchasing the camper and sliding it in?
A bed mat?
What about electrical connections? There's a plugin On the bumper for a trailer, but if I understand it, I need a separate connector in the bed(?) for a TC. If so, where can I get a wiring harnes and plug?
Anything else I need? I don't want the sealer to do any installations. I just want to drive to the dealer, load up and leave.
After paying, of course lol.
