RE: Tank size

We camp primarily at State Parks also, and our previous HTT tanks were all 30 gallon. To conserve water we wash dishes at the dish sink at the bath house (yes it is for dish washing) and I shower at the bath house unless the bathrooms are less than clean.
That being said we always ran out of fresh water and had to refill during a weekend. So I always have 150’ of garden hose with me that I can stretch out to the water spigot and refill the tank.
As long as you do not use tank chemicals in your grey tank, grey water is basically soapy water from the sink or shower. If that fills up I let it slowly drain over night on to the ground. Some will argue how terrible this is etc. however when we were tent campers we would use a dish pan, wash the dishes and dump the water on the ground.
They sell Blue Totes for the black water that you can empty your tank into and take to the dump station for proper disposal. (you can use it for the grey also if so inclined). We have never filled the black tank and weekends or extended weekends

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

OK from experience here is my 2 cents. My truck (TV) was hit twice in one year neither my fault. I notified my Insurance Co (Nationwide) they told me that if they (Nationwide) paid the claim I would have to pay the deductable and it would be a no-fault accident. But instead I asked them to intervene on my behalf and they in turn contacted the person who hit our truck insurance company. Nationwide sent for the police reports (yes I called Popo cause the one guy said it wasn't his fault)
So ask your insurance co to speak on your behalf to the insurance company of the person who hit you. Next do not deal with the “Friend” who owns a body shop. Go to a Certified RV Body shop that will warrantee the work against LEAKS. Your or his insurance company should have a list of certified shops, if they do not contact the MH manufacturer and ask where to take it that is certified by them.
I would be more nervous about the slide being hit and re-aligned correctly so it doesn’t leak and works properly.

RE: What do full timers do to NOT become bored with life style

WOW! These are all great replies. Lots to think about so I am glad I asked this now not 5 years from now.
Some info about us, I absolutely LOVE nature, hiking, photography. I can do website design.
My Wife loves to garden, she crochets and teaches women at our church to crochet, they usually make stuff for Operation Christmas Child. She like taking pictures but she will say she is not “as into it” as I am. She has had her knee replaced in 07, she will go on “short easy” hikes but nothing long.
We both like history, we’ve been to Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Waltons Mountain stuff like that.

What do full timers do to NOT become bored with life style

What do full timers do to NOT become bored with the life style? I have lurked here for a couple years and read the Fulltime and RV Life Style posts because it is our goal as we count down the years to full timing.
I realize the time we have left (6 years) before we can start might seem like an eternity. When our time comes I will be 55 and receive a full pension and DW will be 62. Both children will have graduated college 2 years prior to that time.
So as DW and I talk about seeing the USA and spending time at its sites etc this, the question always comes up what else do we do?
So I want to ask that here. What does a full time RV’er do day to day not to become bored and regret the life style change or throw in the towel?
NOTE: from reading on here we know we have to get out of the “vacation mind set” where you run do everything fast then leave. We also have been slowly parting with stuff. But like I said the question always comes up what else do we do?

RE: exterior light beside door

I hope you do not plan on keeping the SCARE light on all night and blinding other campers cause you are scared of the woods. We camped by an RV with a SCARE light that was on ALL night. Blinded everyone who looked in that direction, they even had one on the non-awning side of the RV so it would SCARE the campers next door in.

RE: Sofa to Dresser Upgrade

Maybe you could use some child-safe drawer catches? Something like this:I looked at those, some work better than others. My thought was a good bump and the drawer will come out fast and I was afraid they plastic would snap.
We just have to remember to lock the drawers thats all.

RE: Sofa to Dresser Upgrade

BTW, what did you use for drawer glides? I assume there's some way of keeping them from sliding open while under-way?Keeping them closed during transport has been the issue, I have looked at many RV & Boat drawer locks. The problem is, I don't want a knob sticking out so I haven't found the right lock yet.
DW told me I was over-thinking the problem she handed me a simple door lock from Home-Depot, so I installed on one these inside of each drawer and just lift up the sofa and lock it during travel. If I find anything better I will let evryone know.

I was looking at the jack knife sofa in the TT
http://inlinethumb10.webshots.com/48265/2542766640092006004S500x500Q85.jpg
And noticed the wasted / unused space beneath it.

And decided that the space could be used for DW and I to keep our Clothing so I removed the Jack Knife Sofa

RE: Water Hookups Far From Camper

We stay mainly at state parks, I fill up the frsh water tank when I arrive, and carry hose to refill if I run out. DW and DD use the RV shower, DS and I use the camp ground shower. However we found the key to not having to re-fill the tank is that we wash the dishes at the camp ground sinks. Its faster and less messy than trying to do it inside the RV.

Em... I know I forgot to mention the "back up fight" to some friends, I understand their first "backing" experience was, ah interesting. RE: Has anyone decided NOT to upgrade?

I wish I could have all the money back that we wasted upgrading needlessly...I think this is the best comment so far. I was at the RV Dealing picking up some parts and started looking around, fell in love with another unit and said wow. However our current rig is paid for and in this economy that makes it easier to use more often. We will upgrade when we are actual empty nesters to something more suited for travel and discovery.
Whether or not you upgrade really depends on your style of camping or RVing. We were tenters for years and still consider what we do camping. We spend most of our time outside under the awning, at the fire, hiking, etc. If its cooler weather we will eat breakfast inside. We don’t carry a television set or movie projector like I said we still “camp”.
REAL LIFE - We got caught upgrading because we made a wrong choice on our first HTT. We settled for a unit that had a rear and front fold out which was OK when the kids were small, I really wanted the next size up only because it had three bunk in the back and a fold out front for us. We settled for the unit we bought and then the kids (boy & girl) found it icky to sleep together and found our current unit and took the loss to upgrade to it.
Right now you have a unit that is not leaking or having problems, that is a BIG PLUS.

RE: Heavy duty shocks, super springs or both for truck?

Fist let me assure you that no one here is trying to be a wet blanket or find fault with your TT or TV. There is a lot of experience on this forum and most members are more than willing to share from their own experiences both good and bad with other members. (I was in a similar situation way back when we moved up from tenting to RVing.)
That being said, regardless of your TV being paid for or not, you need to know if you are over or under weight.
The payload rating includes everything you have in the truck including a FULLTANK OF GAS and passengers.
I will state for the record that I believe you are over weight and unsafe.
When I was in your shoes, I loaded up our TT and Van for a standard camping trip, which included ALL the people that go, the stuff that goes in the bed like bikes, fire wood, and everything in the TT we normally took with us (camp chairs food, clothing, awning mats everything) and went and got weighed. The weigh Station gave me a print out that I kept in the glove box stating our CGVW (Combined Gross Vehicle Weight) and it spelled out per axel our weight to compare that to the vehicles specifications. I was OK and gave a copy to my auto insurance company for their file.
Since you like your TT & TV I would also research how you legally increase your tow/pulling capacity. I would first check with the DOT in your state to see if it is possible to do upgrades and get re-certification. I am not a gear head but I have read posts where people have mechanically modified their trucks; gear ratios, changes tire sizes, brakes, axels, suspension, and other upgrades that changed their trucks abilities.
Does your auto insurance company know the specs of your TV and TT?
The wrong time to research all this is after you have burned out the transmission, collapsed a spring or had a vehicle accident.
I do not know what to suggest you do if after being weighed you find out the RV dealer lied to you about your ability to tow.

RE: Heavy duty shocks, super springs or both for truck?

Trailer's gross weight is 11,250 lbs
Hitch weight is 1400 lbs
Dry weight is 8770 lbsAccording to the Velocity Automotive Journal, the Toyota Tundra CrewMax with two-wheel drive lists a towing capacity of 10,400 lbs. while the four-wheel drive model shows 10,100 lbs. The Tundra can remain level even with 1,000 lbs. of tongue weight or payload.
Thinking C-Y-A here since it appears the OP is overweight.
• Is there any sort of legal or civil liability of towing over weight should there be an accident?
• If the OP does make upgrades to his TV to handle the weight of this TT, is there something he should do or documents he should file to LEGALLY increase his Trucks Towing Capacity?
