RE: Can I put a reveiver on the campers bumper

This may be a dumb question, but I'll ask anyway. My camper (in sig) has a heavy duty bumper on it, where legs swing down to support the unit on the ground. There was a receiver on the bumper when I bought it. Can I safely tow a small trailer with it, say 2000 lbs? No!

RE: Will three weeks be enough?

We spent 7 days in the Black Hills last year and didn't get to see all the sites we wanted to! We based out of RafterJ and tried to hit a loop/site each day, this worked pretty good and we had some duplicate routes, but it wasn't too bad. We also stopped in Sioux Falls and spent the day at the falls and visited a nice city pool (for kids, only 3ft deep). Sioux Falls is a nicelittle town, stealth camped, plenty of friendly residential side streets. A few years ago we also did Yellowstone. Yellowstone is huge! If you base out of anywhere you will have hundreds of miles of backtracking. If you look at a map you will notice Yellowstone has 4 main loops. We drove 1 loop each day staying at a different inpark campground each night (reserved in advance). I highly recommend being on the move in this park (for truck campers) as you are able to easily stop at all the scenic views unlike the travel trailers. We didn't spend much time in the Teton's, only a day, and stealth camped in Jackson Hole near the large city park. The trip was getting long at this point with our young kids (1 &4 at the time). You have a huge trip, I think 3 weeks is plenty, but you might get burned out, I know I would. I would move a day from the Tetons and add a non-travel day in the Black Hills. Enjoy your opportunity!

RE: Permanently attaching rubber mat to bottom of TC...?

Another vote for do-it-yourself roll-on bedliner, Hurculiner. It is cheaper, lighter, and will hold your camper in place better than professional spray-ons and rubber mats.

RE: Should I go 3.73 or 4.10 with my Chevy 6.0?

Get the 4:10, once you upgrade your tire size to max out your payload, you will have a final ratio similar to 3:73 with stock tires. If your weight is 3700 wet, you are fine, I run a similar setup and regularly tow a 4place ATV trailer. If your weight is 3700 dry, you better get a dually.

RE: Planning a June trip to Yellowstone

Having lived previously in NW Ohio and now in Cody Wyoming, I can give you the scoop. I knpw lots of places to boondock that are spectacular. I can also advise you on a lot of good information about most everything between here and Ohio, via 90 and 80. PM or e mail me and this former Buckeye will be glad to help another Buckeye! Why limit all of your wisdom to a PM? Why not share it here?

RE: Planning a June trip to Yellowstone

I took this trip a few years ago. I spent over a week (combined) in Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Jackson Hole. We spent each night at a different campground in the park. This worked well as the park is a series of loops and we were able to visit most of the park without any backtracking. We did spend a night in Jackson Hole stealth camping. If I were to do it again I would do the exact same thing.

RE: To all GM owners. Buying advice needed.

Interesting. Can the dealer tell if the vehicle has been previously programmed then subsequently had programming removed?

RE: Does your TPO roof have bubbles and lifting?

I asked this forum a few years ago the same thing. The response I received said this was normal. I haven't experienced any issues since. Previous Thread

RE: To all GM owners. Buying advice needed.

I have a '04 2500HD with 6.0L Gas and 4.10 gears. If you are going to be hauling over 3000lbs in the back you will want to get a tire rated for more capacity which will result in a larger diameter tire. Because of this you will want to get a truck with a 4.10 gear ratio. Other recommended add-ons you may want are shock upgrade and airbags, which will run a couple hundred dollars each. I get about 10MPG loaded and 12MPG unloaded. I have traveled loaded through Glacier National Park, Yosemite, Grand Tetons, Black Hills, and many areas in between. I took a few years of looking and testing to figure out what I really wanted. I haven't had any problems with the setup I can't thing if anything I would do differently if I had a do-over.

RE: Can A 3/4 ton PU Carry A 11' 6" Lance Camper

Placing a 3000 lb. camper into the back of a truck is not going to place the entire 3000 lb. load on the rear axle. A portion of the weight is going to be carried by the front axle. Only by loading the camper and taking the truck to a CAT scale and getting front and rear axle weights can anyone know exactly what the load distribution is for both axles. Once you get back from the cat scales you will find that 2800lbs of the 3000lbs is on the rear axle.

RE: Source for Lifeline batteries and Kyocera solar panels?

I ordred my Lifelines direct a few years ago. The only reason they sold direct was because I didn't have a local distributor.

RE: Can A 3/4 ton PU Carry A 11' 6" Lance Camper

I have a Lance 1030 (10'11") on my 3/4 ton. My camper is a little shorter and a few hundred pounds lighter than the one you have. My setup has been comfortable to drive and I have done so for over 20k miles now. I sometimes also tow a 4place ATV trailer. That said, I think the 1130 would be too much for my truck, I wouldn't load the 1130 on my truck nor would I recommend it to a friend. Airbags are levelers, they keep the headlights on the road, little more. 19.5" Rims, heavy duty shocks, and airbags would be the only reasonable way to get this on a 3/4 ton.

RE: Line-x Premium and bed mat reviews?

Save 100lbs and many $100s by doing yourself with Hurcilier. You can install Hurculiner yourself for about $75 and it will hold your camper better than a heavy rubber mat. Pick it up at your local hardware store or Home Depot.

RE: will this work lol

I don't have any experience with a setup like this however I would be concerned about then tailgate and tailgate-cables. Truck campers do rock and move, not all roads are straight, smooth, and level.

RE: *Lance Camper Recall*

so I pulled up the step to the cabover to check serial numbers. My 08 1055 has a 1314 with serial #07007207 so I can sleep with the peace of mind that I don't have one of the recalled separators Thanks for the heads up A coincidence, my SurePower seperator just failed. Its a model# 1314 serial # 07006122 in an 08 Lance. The selonoid was clicking and refused to allow the running truck to charge the camper batteries. When in the shop itstuck in such a way that the camper would have drained te truck battery when the truck was off. Theres a replacement on order, and in the meantime Im disconnecting the harness when the truck is off to isolate the truck. Possibly theres more problems outside of the serial #s they say are affected. In my case I could see the lack of charge on the solar monitor and hear a loud audible clicking as the selonoid attempted to switch over. My SurePower separator failed as well. My SN is about 2 million lower than yours and not covered by the recall either. I emailed them anyways to see if they will cover it. Ours are probably defective as well but aren't known to start fires.

RE: Norcold Recall

thanks for posting that notice,my tc is in storage but my norcold owners manual from 2005 states my fridge is either an n400x or n510x,guess i better check the #,s on the fridge to be sure? Like you, my model number is in a different format, mine is N640.3. At this time it appears these models are not covered by the recall, someone please inform the thread if you learn otherwise.

RE: mpg

Well i feel prety good getting 10 mpg with regular gas.I'm sure i could bump it a couple with premium but the extra cost whats the point. i drove 60 most of the time 65 at most. This is my 1st truck camper but I've had 3 difrent motor homes and 2 campers speed is def the enemy If your truck's engine is designed for 87 Octane gas then putting in a higher octane gas is going to do nothing for your fuel economy whatsoever. High octane is needed for higher compression engines to avoid pre-detonation or knock and nothing more. Not always true. I have had some vehicles get better milage with higher octane. Like wise I have had some vehicles get better milage on non-oxygenated Vs oxygenated (ethanol). It is worth giving it a shot for a couple tanks to see what happens.
