RE: Beware GMAC Insurance

They tried a bait and switch on me when it was time to renew my ins. I called them for a quote and got a nice one about $30 cheaper than AAA and was going to go for it but, when the paper work got to me it was $150 more than quoted and they said the quote over the phone was wrong and this it right. Did not sign with them and went back to AAA and been with them since. This was through Good Sam, that is way I am no long a member of Good Sam, if figure any group the connects with crooks like that can't be trusted. They own this site and used to have a community side here and they let that go to hell fast, I am glad we have other people watching over this site or it could go to hell fast too. I emailed and called many times and they never did anything, till they finally ended the community side. So other than this site Good Sam for me is a waste of time.

Help with how to

Friends I need some suggestions for some thing I have to tackle. I wanted to change out my trailer jack to a new one as the old one is all banged up and rusty. I got the new one and its nice and all but when I went to install it the hole on the bottom at the v of the trailer is smaller than the top one. So my question to you experts is what do you think would be the best way to enlarge the hole. I do not have many fancy tools but I do have a grinder which is what I was thinking to use, any thoughts???

RE: SEWER HOSE SUPPORT

I got some plastic rain gutter and use it with some wood or stones and I am good to go and the gutters are very light and was what about $2. for 8ft or so, I cut them in 3 ft sections so they are easy to store too.

RE: Washing RV at Campground and Pressure washer.

Every place I have seen has signs saying no washing of RV's. on the road find a diy car wash and do it there.

RE: So what will happen..?

One rule I learned long time ago, keep the trailer (loaded) under the weight limit by 1000lbs and you should be fine. Has always worked for me.

RE: Electric Brakes.

I was told, find a large parking lot, let the TV go with just the letting go of the break, once its up to about 10mph on its own (with the trailer attached) use the slide bar to make you brake to a stop and that should tell you where it needs to be, than practice at various speeds in the parking lot. till it feels right to you. You don't want the trailer to do all the work but just enough that its working with your TV's breaks.

RE: TT Bottoming out, broken skid bracket, Help!!!

The wheels in the back might help, one thing I did to help is change my ball set up for in and out of the driveway. With the chg, the front of the trailer was lower so the rear end was higher and also tried some boards to bridge the gap and level it out somewhat. Just some ideas.

RE: DoI still need the wd hitch?

I had the something with my f-150 and my trailer, my sag was less than 1/2 inch and got an equilizer hitch with w/d and it tracks great and heres one thing to think about, its one more thing attached to the trailer from the truck to keep it there if something was to go wrong. But then again I am the guy with four chains on my rig not two.

RE: Hitch ?

If you have to do it slower and with your flasher on, I would not do over 35 in that situation and stay to the right unless a left turn is coming up. Slow slow slow. Better to take 2 hours then not make it!

RE: What to do when lacking a dump station

As for other campgrounds, most will chg and I would also look up T/A's and other gas stations that offer a dump station. Worst case, dump in a bucket at home and use your toilet, I use to do that with my sailboat, not nice but works in a pinch.

RE: Park approved Generator

I have one of the champion 4000 you are talking about and although I have not used it in the forest I keep it locked in the bed of my truck. When I use it I pull it out to the end of my bed and point the muffler to the other side where nothing is and park the truck behind my trailer away from others as best as I can. I also just run it for an hour or so to keep the batteries up. If I wanted to run my ac and other stuff then I would have gone to a place with plug in's.

RE: ceramic heaters?

I found a cheap (end of season sale) at Target and use it before bed and in the morning to take the chill off. When I am paying for electric why use my propane? Cuddling under a good couple of blankets helps too.
