RE: Older Diesels

I bought a 2001 7.3 almost 2 years ago with less than 125K on it for $12K. I looked all over Florida to find it. Had to be patient, but it was worth it. I was looking specifically for this engine and found what I was looking for. I've had to do some maintenance...but I like doing most of my own wrenching anyway, so I got to know the truck better. Water pump, batteries, a glow plug relay, ball joints, a tie rod end and recently sway bar bushings. WHen you buy an older truck, expect some of this. One thing that I was looking for specifically was non powered windows and locks. I know it's a pain to have to unlock the doors manually, but all of the trucks I was looking at had at least one window or lock unit that was bad. So I got an XL trim truck. Vinyl everything, but it's very easy to keep clean. Just keep in mind that although the motor (whether it's a F, C or D) may go a million miles, its the little things that can really add up. Just be patient.

2001 F350 4x4 sway bar question

This is my own fault.... I am replacing the bushings in my sway bar links on my 2001 F350 4x4. I am using the Energy Suspension polyurethane ones because they are supposed to last longer. The "clunking" has been driving me crazy. So I take the dogbone shaped links off, and carefully place them on the floor of the garage. I then remove the sway bar and place it with the links so that everything is oriented correctly. The sway bar links have a wide end and a narrow end. I worked on one of the end links and couldn't get the bushing out. I didn't want to burn it out and it was late last night...so I just put it back down and planned on taking it to a friends shop and having the old bushing pressed out. Went inside, got cleaned up and went to bed. Got up this morning, grabbed the sway bar links and took them to my buddy and dropped them off for him to press out. I'll pick them up later and put the new bushings in and install them. Easy squeezy. I got to work before it hit me....I NEVER REALLY LOOKED AT THE ORIENTATION...Does the WIDE side bolt upwards to the frame...or is it the NARROW end that goes up? Once you put the bushings in...they are the same size, so the bolt can't help me in determining which side goes up. CRAP! If anyone has access to their truck...could you direct me to which end bolts to the frame and which end bolts to sway bar? Ford made them two different sizes for a reason...so I figure there is a right way...
