RE: Purchasing problems...Now RESOLVED!!!

I find it hard to believe that if your dealer is an aurthorized Lance dealer, that he would be unaware of the model year changeover and price increases. Hopefully you did not sign an open end sales contract. Ryoung

RE: AT&T Elevate Hotspot Over Hughesnet?

Check out the AT&T service maps for the areas that you will spend much of your time in. One thing to consider is not only the availability of cellular service, but also the type of cell service. The AT&T Elevate MIFI has good speeds in 3G and 4G areas, which includes the HSPA+ service. But in areas that only have the Edge network available, the Elevate is useless; download speed can be less than dialup. ryoung

RE: Fuel Mileage

Last year I did a trip to the Oregon coast and back. Of the 7,164 miles only about 1,000 miles was interstate. Terrain varied from the flatlands of Kansas to the mountains of Colorado. My hand calculated mileage was 14.8 mpg and the average cost of diesel was $4.00 gallon for the trip. ryoung

Received two sets of membership cards.

I'm just curious why I received two sets of membership cards when I recently renewed my GS Roadside Assistance. One set is labeled "Good Sam RV EMERGENCY ROAD SERVICE" The other set is labeled "Good Sam Roadside Assistance" One set is red over yellow and the other yellow over red. The numbers and info are the same on each set. Why? ryoung

RE: Good Sam (poor business practices)

I dropped GS after asking them twice to quit billing me months before my membership was to expire, and they refused to do so. I don't think asking them to bill me in a timely manner as most other businesses do was out of the ordinary. ryoung

RE: Just returned from Hershey Show Lowdown on Lippert

For some reason, the more I re-read the OP, I cant give it any credibility. ryoung

RE: FIXED?

It would be nice to know if those who are reporting an improvement are Verizon air card users. There were some changes made Friday aimed at this issue. I'm also using Verizon with a UM150 modem and have seen improved performance as I reported above. ryoung

RE: FIXED?

I am afraid to say anything for fear it will get worse again. I think someone at rv.net done something right finally. It has been fast this weekend for me like it used to be. I didn't know it was broke, RV.NET has always been fast for me, no problems Yes, it was broke bigtime for me and others. I was just thinking along the same line about posting the fast speed that has returned to my computer while on RV.net and found this thread. For the past 4 days it has been fantastic after many, many months of slooooow speed. I've went from a page loading in 20 seconds to now less than 1 second. What has changed? ryoung

RE: MIFI or Aircard or something else??

I'm using an older model Verizon USB modem - UM 150 - that has an external antenna port on it. I use a Wilson trucker cell antenna both here at home and on the road. So far this setup has met my needs, especially in areas with weak cellular signals. So it's something you may want to consider. A problem you may encounter going this route is that the newer modems no longer have an external antenna port. Just as all newer cell phones have no external port. You may still be able to get an older modem model with external antenna connection port from an internet dealer. ryoung

RE: China poised to take over the RV industry?

Sooner or later the working class is going to wake up, however I think it will be to late. Most likely already to late, most jobs will never come back! Sure am glad that we are retired. I'm not sure that even retirement pensions will survive when the worst is yet to come. ryoung

RE: China poised to take over the RV industry?

It began when we changed the type of capitalism we practice… as stake holder capitalist we became the most progressive economy the world has ever seen… while it had its share of problems they were manageable… but instead we changed directions and when to shareholder capitalism… whit this it became more profitable to part out and close factories… it forced inventive minds away from manufacturing and into the financial sectors where they invented the problems we face today… instead of building the middle class it crushed it here and moved it to other countries, where now they are becoming the progressives, and here the money flows upward into fewer and fewer pockets… the really bad part is the flow will continue to even fewer people, and is why I believe we have plenty to worry about… its great for the shrinking few, but not so great for country or building and spreading wealth at home land… You hit the nail on the head! It was American corporate greed that created the "global economy". Seems like I recall it started in the 80's when the Great Communicator found the need to deregulate so business could be free to do as they wanted. Today all we hear about is creating jobs. What we don't hear is why we lost so many jobs and what needs to be done to get them back. ryoung

RE: Forum Technical Support

A few years ago, I did a survey to see why members erroneously posted in Forum Technical Support. The name of the forum was rarely mentioned. By far the number one reason - They had clicked on the Forum Help and Support link at top right of most forum pages. Renaming this forum would not change that situation. Since the "Forum Help and Support" link is so obviously misleading, why don't you just remove it from the top of the page? Clicking on it only gets you to the same page as when you click on "Forum Technical Support" from the forums listing page. ryoung

Clicky ryoung ...and how is this relevant to this discussion? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's revelant in that it is about as meaningless as the OP's clicky. That's why I posted it. Do you think that the average truck buyer is influenced by any of this hype? Maybe the power freaks and die hard loyalist will gloat over it, but it doesn't sell the truck. ryoung

RE: Coldest winter in a Century coming? Store it or head south?

Ours are natural gas fueled, not propane but I doubt it makes much difference other than the propane orifices have a larger diameter flow hole and they will burn more fuel to get the 18,000 btu's. Natural gas has more btu's per equal measure than propane so it requires more propane to acheive 18,000 btu's. Actually, propane has the higher BTU content per equal measure. Propane has around 2,500 BTU per cubic ft., where natural gas is just over 1,000 BTU per cubic ft. Costwise though, I think natural gas is cheaper to produce the same amount of heat. ryoung

RE: Palmer Alaska to Deadhorse Alaska

Thanks for the trip report. Beautiful photos. Now I know what I missed by not driving the Dalton when I was up there in 2007. A few miles north of Fairbanks was as far as I got, but did drive on about every other road in Alaska. ryoung

RE: Bouncing Camper

You can bank on this truck being overloaded to some degree, and that overloading is the main cause of the bouncing problem. Wow! What a definitive answer from so little information given. What brand of crystal ball are you using. Amazing. ryoung

RE: I Am Done with RV.Net Web Site

Something is amiss in the RV.net site. It doesn't fly to keep pointing fingers at the Verizon air card products -> because they happen work on all other WEB sites and on all cell towers that one is close enough to. What about this logic can't be understood? Who is saying that the Verizon air card works on ALL cell towers? Certainly not me if you read my first post. I'll say it again. On a recent trip thru 10 states I used the Verizon air card (UM 150) in many different locations. The was no slow down on rv.net/forums at any of the locations. Only when I got back home did the slow down occur, just as it did before I left on the trip. I live very close to the Verizon tower and have an excellent signal. So you can't say the tower signal is degraded or the traffic is heavy. If that was the case all other websites would be just as slow. So in my situation, I have to conlude that the problem lies within the local tower. Later this week, I plan to take the laptop and usb modem to a different area where the signal is from a different tower and confirm what I have seen so far. ryoung

RE: new tow standards to be adopted...........

The new standards won't change anything; just another bragging right for the manufacturer. Understanding and adhering to the current certification specs required by the feds and posted on the certification label should be enough information to properly select a tow vehicle. Common sense should tell you to not exceed the manufacturers recommendations. ryoung
