RE: Water tank sensors

When working as a tech in Sheridan I ran into the same problem when replacing a white tank. Fill the tank to the 1/3 line and put a sensor in. If it reads 1/3 go to the 2/3 line if not swith the sensor until you get a 1/3 reading. Repeat for the 2/3 and full. Why fill the tank? Wouldn't it work just as well if you just placed each sensor in a cup of water to see what lights up? Hi All. Wrong. Sure putting the sensors in a glass of water will light them up. But you sure won't know which one is for the 1/3, or the 2/3, or Full, now would you. They have to be in the correct order to work correctly. Good Luck. Happy Travesl. Dan & Jill Put one sensor in the cup. Whichever light comes on, put that sensor in the corresponding hole in the tank. I've never looked at the tank but I aasume the holes are lined up vertically with 1/3 being the bottom sensor and full being the top sensor. Repeat process for next sensor. Remaining sensor goes in remaining empty hole. Hi All. "Nope", You still don't get it, do you. All three Lights will light up in the water, even if you put one in the glass at a time, but you still won't know which one is for the 1/3 or the 2/3 or the FULL. They have to be in the correct order, at the correct level. HappyKayakers gave the best advice how to fix this problem "Forget your Darn Glass of Water". Gee Wizzzzzzzzz Good Luck. Happy Travels. RE: Could I fit a 'mobile' generator into a DP?

Hi All. Why not just do it right the first time, and be done with it. It shouldn' be that hard to find a Used Generator to go into your Motorhome. Why waste the money on a "Portable Generator", unless you have a speccial need for one anyways. Sure glade we keep our Twin Honda EU2000is, Paralla Kit and Extended Run Tank, when we sold our 5er a few years ago. As our Honda's are so much Quiter and Cheaper to run. But we do rotae the uuseage of both our Honda's and our 5.5 Built-In Generator. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Radiator Fluid Container

Hi All. We have a Rexhall also. They are still in businesss, why don't you call them and ask if they have any that would work on your year Rexhall. Or search the Junk Yards, and bring your old one with you to compair. You could probably make almost any one from a Ford Truck or Van work, it doesn't have to be an exact one to work correctly. But it would be nice to stay with as close to OEM as possible Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Breakdown - how would you handle it

Hi All. Its plain and simple. Everyone is going to react differently to an Emergency. You can guess all you want as to what you will do, doesn't mean at that time you will do it. Everyone is different and every Emergecny is different. Nothinig beats good old fashioded common sense. Do what ever you think is best for you, depending on your own situation. Over 15 years as an OTR Trucker. Over the yeaars, I have seen more than my share of others Emergencys and how they react. Trust me, there is no right or wrong answer. Good Luck. Happy Travels. RE: how old should you go.

Hi All. When we bought our Motorhome, we bought it for a "One in a Lifetime Buy", We also Paid Cash. We really like the floor plan, but we didn't care much for some of the Colors or some of the Furniture in it. So as soon as we bought it, we did an "Inside Make-Over". Now it is completely the way we wanted it to look. And we did it ourselfs, and we still don't have all that much into our Motorhome. At the same time, we did all the improvements and Mods also. Everything that we did to our Motorhome saved us a Bundle of Money. I also went completely though the Motorhome, from Bumper to Bumper, and Outside and Inside. Every System was completely check out. Bought all 7 New Tires, New Battery Bank, Installed two Brand New Fantastic Fans, as it had none. Replaced all Belts ahd Hose, Replaced all Fluids. Up-Graded the crappy OEM Megntec Converter/Charger to a Good Multi-Stage Smart Converter/Charger. Changed out the old OEM CRT TV's to New LED TV's and added all LED Lights. The list just goes on and on. We spend almost 3 years looking for our Motorhome, as we only wanted a "Rexhall", Period. And a Rexhall we bought. We also could have bought just about any Motorhome we wanted to. As it wasn't a question about money, as to more to what we wanted. Yes, we wanted a "Gasser Motorhome". And Yes, we didn't want any "Slides" either. We bought exacetly what we wanted. Our Motorhmoe so far has been totally "Problem Free". And because I do all of my own work, I plan on it staying that way for as long as I can. Our Motorhome will last us the rest of our Traveling Days, and then some. As we have been RV'ers for a little over 45+ years already. We also enjoy the best of both Worlds. When we become to old to Travel anymore, we have our Beautiful Home to finish out our last days. The Motorhome will probably go to one of our kids. We wouldn't trade our Motorhome for anything out there. Our Motorhome is only 14 years old, and runs like a Dream. And has lots and lots of miles left to go in it, before that old 460 EFI begins to even get tired. Trade-UP, No Way, we already have our "Perfect Motorohome" already. Why would anyone want to get rid of a perfectly good working Motorhome. We would rather spend a few dollars on Repairs, than to have payments, or start all over again. I'm a real Nut Case when it comes to "Proventive Maintenance Programs". So far in the past 45+ years as RV'ers, we have Never had a "Flat Tire" or a "Blow-Out" or have ever "Broken Down". We are very hapy with what we have already. But hey, each to their own ways, and what ever makes you happy. Just our 2 Cents Worth. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Why do I feel like appoligizing....??

Hi All. No need to feel this way. As everyone of us has worked for our money, and to be able to enjoy life the best way we can. We can't help those that work for peanuts and can't afford to do anything in their lives. Life is full of choices. Some make good ones, while others make bad ones. Just count your Blessing and go enjoy, we do. We are also retired. And we enjoy the best of both worlds. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Which generator setup????

Hi All. If your renting a TT every year, why don't you just buy a good Older Used TT. That would be less expensive in the end. As mentioned, a Camp 3500/4000 watt generaotr would fit your needs. It probably wouldn't be an issues as far as noice is, at a noisy air show. But as other have siad, you just cann't beat set of Twin Honda EU2000i's, Paralla Kit, and Extended Run tank. Yes they are expensive, but you only have to buy them one time for life. They are also very eassy to handle and to move around. Plus you have a choice or running just one Honda or both, just depending on your Power needs. We have had our Twins for about 8 years now, and not so much as one problem, And a pair of Honda EU2000i's can run even a 15,000 btu A/C wiht no problems, and have power to spare. Good Luck. RE: engin battery

Hi All. Rather than put up with this at all, why don't you just fix the problem. And make the engine Battery get charged while on Shore Power, or runnning your Generator. We also have a Ford F-53 Chasis, and all of our Batteries get charged no matter what the sorce is. Its such an easy fix. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: CO2 detectors.

Hi All. We have been RV'ers for a liitle over 45+ years now. And we have never, had to replace any Sensors, Period. In any RV's we have ever owned. Our Motorhome is now 14 years old, and our Sensors work perfectly. We have added a Battery Operated Sensors as well. Since we moslty do all Boondocking, we wanted more protection, as we some times run our Generator all night long. Plus we never use our RV's Furances. We have had a Mr Heater, 9000 btu Buddy, a Mr Heater, 18,000 btu Big Buddy, and we also have an Oly Wave #6 Propane Heater. Maybe we have been lucky, but I do test our Sensors each year to make sure that they do work correctly. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: GPS Software

Hi All. We have used two GPS Units for many many years now, with no problems. We use to have a TOM-TOM One (3.5 in) and we also used a DeLorme GPS System on our Laptops also. We still have the original TOM-TOM ONE, but we keep it permantely in our Toad. That way we don't have to move anything around, and we alwasy have a GPS Unit in the Toad now. We up-graded our old TOM-TOM One, to the 5 in TOM-TOM XL for the Motorhome. We still use a DeLorme GPS System on our 17 in Laptop. Its sit very nicely on the Dog-House Engine Cover. Having a laptop GPS System is really nice to have, for several reasons. It has a much larger screen, so its very easy to see, and it shows a lot more detail and distance on the Laptop Screen, not just the next intersection or turns comming up. We do mostly Boondocking, so having "Google Earth" with us, is a really big plus for finding good out of the way areas to Boondock in. Having a Laptop with you is a Plus. We can listen to Music in areas where there is no Radio reseption. It can be used as a back up DVD Player, or to use it outside to watch Movies. You can stay in touch with family and friends too. Plus we have a lot of our RV'ing info stored on our Laptop. So far, we have never been taken down any wrong roads or wrong turns. They both get us to where we want to go, with out hassels. They work great for our needs. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Fabric cushion / curtain modifications

Hi All. Yes, we sure did. When we bought our Motorhome, for a "Once in a Liftime Buy", we did an "Inside Make-Over" to make it the way we wanted it to look. We acutually removed all of the "Window Treatments" from the Motorhome, and never put them back in. On ours, anyways, there are just a few "Screws" holding the Window Treatments to the walls. We replaced all of ours with real Household Type Curtain Rods and Real Curtains. You don't notice it until you remove them, but it actually saves you a lot of room. The OEM Window Treatments stuck out 4 inches from the wall. The Household Curtain Rods, only stick out one inch. It wouldn't be hard for any one who is a litile bit handy to Re-Cover the Window Treatments with a "Staple Gun" and your "Choice of Fabrics". It sure made a big differance in how the inside of our Motorhome now looks. Its a lot more warm and "Homey Looking", instead of the "Motorhome Look". Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Carryout & Vuqube Security

Hi All. No problem for our Vu-Qube. We put ours on top of our Motohomes Roof. We also have a Luggage Rack on Top, so we use a Cable Lock, it doesn't go any where. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill How do you get it to receive under trees or other blockage? We have a roof top automatic and it is useless under trees, has to have a clear shot at sw skies Hi All. We mostly do all Boondocking. If there are to many trees in the way, we can move the Vu-Qube to a different location. But usually, we only have to leave the very rear of our Motorhomes exposed to the SW to get a very clear picture. The rest of the Motorhome stays in the shade, and stays very comfortable. We also have our Motorohome very well set-up for reducing the sun. All of our Windows, except for the Windshiel and Driver's and Passenger's Windows has the "Very Dark Limo Tinting" on them. We also have "Solar Screens" for our Motorhome, that I made myself. So I can put them on the outside of the windows, or on the inside of the windows. Most of our Boondocking, is up in the Higher Mouuntains in the Summer months, so the Heat issues isn't that much to deal with. Thats one of the reasons we didn't want a Front Roof Top Mounted Sat Recivier. The Front area of a Motorhome is always the Hottest part to deal with. So we always have our front in the shade. We bought our Vu-Qube for very little, as it was a Demo at an RV Place. I should have stated, that the "Lock Cable" we use, is more for the Vu-Qube not being able to be blow off the roof, as it is so light weights anyways. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Personal Question $$$

Hi All. Hey No Problems for us answering your questions. We have been RV'ers for a little over 45+ years now. And we have "Paid Cash" for every RV we have ever bought. If we can't afford to pay cash for any RV, then we don't need it. We also have never bought a Brand New RV either. As we don't want to take the Huge Hits on them as soon as you drive away. We have had "Fantastic Luck", buyiing "Used". We also have never had a "Flat Tire" or have ever had a "Blow-Out" or have ever "Broken Down". I have always done all of my own work on everythig we have ever owned. We enjoy being "Debt Free". Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Keeping the Southwind

Hi All. Smart move on your part. At least you already know what you have, and what you need to do to your Motorhome. Which is so much cheaper to fix up, compaired to selling yours and starting over again with an Un-known Motorhome. Even after fixing everything that you need to, on your Motorhome, you'll still be money way ahead, instead of trading up. That money saved will pay for your Motorhomes Fuel for some time to come. When we bought pour Motorhome, for a "once in a Lifetime Buy", we went ahead and did an Inside make-Over, so it would be the way we wanted it to look inside. We still don't have all that much invested in our motorhome. But it was "Paid in Full" the day we bought it. I went completely through it, repalced all the hoses, Batttery bank, New Fantastic Fans, as it didn t have any at all. Up-Graded the OEM Converter/Charger to a good Multi-Stage. Put 7 New Tires on it. We also replalced both the old OEM CRT TV's with nice, bigger LEDS TV's, and all LED Lights. Changed out all Fliuds. We also did everything that we wanted to do to our Motorhome, as far as any Up-Grades and Mods, so it completely done now. And so far, we have never had any problesm with out Motorhome. After 45+ years as RV'ers, this is our Last RV, Period, unless something happens to opur Motorhome. As the one we have will more than last us the rest of our traveling days, and then some. Will probably go to one of our kids when we get to old to travel any longer. Full-Timming is not in the picture for us, anyways. We have already been RV'ers for a little over 45+ years now. As we have and enjoy the best of both worlds. We have a Great Motorhome and a Beautiful Home, right on the Golf Coarse in a very small town that can't ever get any bigger. I'm very lucky, as I have done all of our own Repairs, Mods on everything we have ever owned, RV's, Cars, Trucks, Homes. It really does pay to be a Jack of All trades. Hope your Motorhome serves you very well for many many more years to come. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Gray Tank Smell

Hi All. Sounds like for some reason, your not keeping water in your P-Traps, thus letting the smells form the Gray Tank enter your RV. Pretty simple sultion, one, is to fix the problem. Two, always keep "Sink Stoppers" in all of your Drains. No oders are going to get past those. We have been using "Sink Stoppers" for the past 45- years as RV'ers. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

RE: Water Heater Full?

Hi All. I guess I have better hearning than most. As soon as I connect to fill the Fresh Water Tank, I just go to where the Hot Water Tank is at and listen. I can hear the Hot Water Tank filling up. We Never, Ever, mess with out differrnt vales, as the only thing we ever do to Winterize, is "Blow Out" all the Lines and open all the "Low Drains", and add RV Antifreeze to the Toilet Bowl ,and any P-Traps. Been doing it this way for many, many, years now. And have never had a problem, ever. And that has also been living in areas where it gets down to -20, and -30 and -40 Below Zero. Also, because some many RV's are set up differently for Winterizing, when you first get your RV, mark all your Valves, as to what is "Open" and what is "Closed" and you will never have to guess again. Good Luck., Happy Travels, Dan & Jill
