RE: Jeep Liberty or Ford Edge as Dinghy for Class C

Hey all, just thought I'd put an end to this post. We ended up buying a 2011 Jeep Liberty just about $6000 off MSRP. DW is happy so I am happy. :B We stopped by the weight station the other day and it came in at 4330#. Thanks for all your input

According to the owners manual for the 2008 the MP1522 Command-Trac and the MP3022 Selec-Trac II transfer case both have a neutral. the only 2008 Liberty that can't be towed 4 down is the 2WD version. Jeep has a link for all their 4X4 systems that also comfirms this.

RE: Jeep Liberty or Ford Edge as Dinghy for Class C

We need to get a larger dinghy, currently have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler which has been a great tow, but we’ve outgrown it. We are considering a 2008-2010 Jeep Liberty Unlimited or a 2007-2010 Ford Edge. They both weigh about the same as far as I have been able to find out. Would like to know what your thoughts are on either of these vehicles towed behind a Class C with a 5000# towing capacity and if you went from a Wrangler to either vehicles did you noticed the added weight on the motorhome?
Thanks in advance
one thing on the liberty...be *sure* that the 4WD has a neutral position. their AWD models *do not* and cannot be flat towed or dollied...those must be trailered. the good news is that with the 2010 models you do not need to pull fuses or remove battery cables because the ignition key is removed during towing...the steering wheel does not lock.
good luck.
I found a 2008 Jeep Liberty Unlimited with only 16000 miles on it and I am considering buying it, until I saw your post. What year Liberty's have AWD? I downloaded the 2008 manual and it says that the 2WD models cannot be towed, says nothing about AWD vs 4WD. To put it in to neutral it lists the following...
6. Use the point of a ballpoint pen or similar object to
depress the recessed transfer case Neutral (N) button for
4 seconds. After the shift is complete, and the Neutral (N)
light turns on, release the Neutral (N) button.
Does anyone have anymore info on this AWD problem and how to know if you have one. I was giong to go look at it tomorrow.
Thanks for all you replies so far
