RE: Time to Upgrade?

If money isn't an issue than by all means upgrade, but it sounds like your rig is doing the job. With that you know what you have, how well it has been taken care of and all that. If you buy a used diesel, who knows? Heck, even the diesels slow down on some hills, after towing in OD for a good while I started purposely going sown a gear, just to keep the circulation up, I swear my gauges are lying to me sometimes. EGTs aren't much different, but trans temp and engine temp stay cooler spinning 2300 instead of 1800 rpms (in that range on hills)

RE: something finally failed on my CTD

On edit Did you guys ever change the anti-freeze at the recommended 5 year or 100k mark? All I did was drain everything I could from the radiator and the hoses, it freaked me out after filling up a five gallon bucket, I had to grab a second, then it seemed hard to find the exact antifreeze I took out of it. I should add that the system takes a lot and that stuff wasn't cheap. I figure that is plenty good.

RE: something finally failed on my CTD

Did you have to lift the cab off :H Yeah someone posted a similar threat a couple of weeks ago, pretty funny thread. I think it was Cummins failure. Haven't seen you posting since the Tundra Guy, must be camping lots LOL. LOL! Tundra guy! I forgot all about that. I actually met the OP of that thread and talked to him a few times, even fixed his PC. I have been handling issues involving the care of my dad, my mother and my stepfather. They all seemed to have crashed at the same time, creating a major distraction. Then I realized that what my priorities were. A lot easier to manage these days. I am even worried about yamaha guy, I had sent him a few emails a long time ago and never heard from him after just meeting him. Cell number no longer works and honestly, I was scared to just go by his place and ask for him for fear of finding out the worst. Same age/condition of my folks.

RE: Dodge 2500 CTD Payload Capacity

Use the GAWRs on the Dodge as your numbers, and tow on. My 3500 SRW has the following axle weight ratings and GVWR: - Front GAWR 5200# (no difference from your 2500) - Rear GAWR 6100# (90# more than your 2500) - GVWR 10,100# (1100# more than your 2500) Oh, and it has the exact same axles, brakes, engine and transmission as a 2004, 5, 6, and 7 2500 series truck with a 9000# GVWR. Only difference that adds 1100# to my GVWR? A couple of overload springs in the rear suspension. Big deal. Exactly, I personally would tow any fiver or anything else for that matter that a 3500 CTD SRW would be rated for. There just isn't any difference. Mine comes in at around 11,500 loaded for a woman's trip and it isn't even phased. The first time I towed my FIL's 15.5k max , quad slide Grand junction I was a little concerned, but at least 8 long tows later I even feel fine doing that. I'm just saying that what you are looking at is totally reasonable.

something finally failed on my CTD

Well, after I hit 80000 miles, I was beginning to think that this rig was invincible. I heard that my tranny would go, that the front end would fall apart, that the interior was cheap and that having a tuner would cause failure and that the warranty police would track me down and void my warranty on top of being arrested. Well I was wrong, no one ever told me that the water pump would drip. I remember reading here that another member changed one and said it was really easy. Not only was it a 35 minute job (most of which was draining and replacing antifreeze) and easy as I could dream, but the pump was only 40 dollars! Wow, every Cummins owner should try it once, it was actually kind of fun. Easier than doing an oil change.
