RE: question on electric tongue jack.

not sure about fords, but chevy (w/tow pkg) puts a dummy 40 amp fuze in the charge circuit for the TT. mine was in fuse box under the hood-------funny, found mine for the same reason-dropped off TT at dealer for work, was fixed when i went back to get it(fuse installed)

RE: Water heater won't stay ltghted

how many cycles do you try(cycle=3 trys and stops/red light)
mine can take up to 3 or 4-gas in front/heater in far rear.
sometimes lighting the stove 1st helps get gas in the lines.
also found out mine will not start w/door open and any kind of breeze.
i don't normally use gas but i do make sure it works when i unwinterize.

RE: Holding Tank Deodorant

AMEN!!
there really are other people that understand there is a difference between septic systems and holding tanks--completely different systems.
if you have odor from your holding tank, either something is wrong or you are doing something wrong.(PERIOD)
start with the easiest-use plenty of water, and keep water in the bowl.
when you do flush, turn OFF the fan-even for that split second when the valve is open, the fan will suck air out of the tank.
if water does not stay in the bowl, try cleaning out the seat where the rubber seal sits when closed. those are pretty much the free ones and the most often 'operator error' problems.
still have odor? then it's probably a vent or a toilet (floor) seal problem. try the 1st 3 as that's usually the problem.
if you want to waste your $$ and use additives-go for it, but find one you like the smell of because that's about all it's good for(holding tank, NOT a septic)
Personally, i use RV type TP (preferable)or my hosehold(septic safe-yes i have both systems) and i use calgon and liquid fabric softner in all my tanks/traps-smells nice when i 1st do it and keeps tanks 'slippery'.
i find it funny that so many have no problem laying down $$ for additives(to break down waste/TP---NOT) but balk at the cost difference between septic safe and RV TP. How much TP are you using??? try baby wipes and use the garbage can if it's that much of a project.
between 4 TT i've only had problems with 1-and it was an easy fix-bowl seal(cleaned-fixed)

RE: bunk beds are useful!

had a bunkie a while back when son thought he'd come along. he got older and lost interest so for us it was a lot of wasted floor space that could be put to better use. son still comes along occasionally, but we got a reg sleeper sofa for those times. I do like the ones that are a seperate room, the bottom bunk turns into a sofa and the top folds out of the way and it looks like a little 'den'. that would be the only type we'd ever get-DW says my puter and other asst junk could go in there.

RE: TT stabilizers

kinda depends on what type of movement you have as there are different fixes for each. front to back movement is your TT moveing on the wheels-either setting the regular type chocks tight or a set of between wheel chocks will help. up/dm movement is your TT bouncing on the suspension-usually the longer and/or light wt ones are worse. you have the 4 corners stablized but the "I" beam or "C" channel(frame) will and does flex to some degree depending on thickness and length between the jacks. for this a 3rd set of jacks close to the axels will help. I had both so i did both and it helps alot. short of putting it on blocks you'll still get some movement-but you can drasticly reduce it. also after you set up, give it a few hrs and re check the jacks-mine always loosen up on the non slide side(things settle/cool down) also the farther the stab jacks are extended the less effective they are-get/make some solid blocks/cribbing for them. i have a 6'4" 300lb son who walks like a budwiser clydesdale so i know what 'movement' is :)

RE: Ants

shut everything off, close up tight and open cabinets(may want to remove stuff) and bomb-i like the raid that you just add water to. also carry spray and spray power cord when camping if i notice ants. also keep a few of those little puck things for the small grease ants that hang out in the kitchen

RE: Keys

Once I get my TT, I plan to buy a few of these:
http://www.combi-cam.com/Combination-door-lock.htm
and put them on the storage compartments. The advantage of these locks is that a key or combination works, and they have a physically different mechanism than the usual RV key that works on so many storage compartments.
i got the 1st generation of those. didn't like the idea of every ones keys working in my locks and got tired of always having to hunt down the keys to get into a compartment. now i just have to hunt for my glasses :) also now i hide a complete set of keys(TT/TV) in one of my compartments(not telling which one :) ) and always have access to them. forgot and ordered 1 less than i wanted-would be nice on outside shower

RE: Jacknife Sofa/Bed

you can try here
i have bought 3 so far, 1 for the house bed, 1 for the TT king bed and 1 for the sofa sleeper. wasn't too sure about the sofa bed, but it worked out fine. i used to feel the wires/bars so i know my rather large son did(6'4"300#) i like it and he says it's good now.
i got the 2.5 or 3 lb x 3". actually the lower density is better-you don't 'sink in' as bad. tried the pillow top and egg crate and my opinion, both are junk and a waste of $$. had these several yrs now and still happy with them.

RE: Keys

I'd be surprised if the dead bolt took a different key than the door handle but my front door has a different key than the back door (but both operate both locks). Maybe Jayco does it differently though.
Like others have said you can pick up a standard key for the storage bays from most any RV dealer. some replace the lock with a better lock but if someone wants anything in your storage compartment and they have a can opener or tack hammer they can be inside in about 10 seconds regardless of WHAT lock you put on it. I'd rather leave mine unlocked so if they DO take anything at least they don't take down the wall of the trailer.
Good luck / Skip
mine the same. on the storage i installed combination locks-won't stop a determined theif but keeps honest ppl honest(no lock on a TT will stop a determined theif as my BIL found out-broke the window glass on the door to get in

RE: cost of running the air

You go from paying your wife a few extra $$'s to run A/C at home to refusing to pay a CG any surcharges.
several responses here. I have to live w/DW, not the host, and she's turned into the dad that goes from room to room turning off un used lights
If a campground is where I want to be and charges a fair rate. I am willing to stay there. How they determine there rate is up to them.
A la carte is always the fairest way vs. one lump price fits all.
agreed, but they usually do both. I'm already paying for power-if it doesn't cover it, charge more. do you see motel rooms doing this? I am already paying for things i don't use(pool/water park, game room, etc.) but they want to charge if i have guests at my site and for my 7 and 12 lb dogs(which are quiet, controlled, and cleaned up after)-both of these charges do not incure any additional cost to the CG. If it's something i'll use(ie WiFi) i will pay for it
Either way a $2.00 A/C surcharge is not a deal breaker for me. I'm not a big KOA fan but they have there place in the CG world.
Location, location, location is the main factor in CG pricing
If it's somewhere i want to be, i'll pay it, but the one that comes to mind was a KOA out in the middle of no where. looking over their handout i couldn't beleive all the things they would charge for. if it's something most ppl would consider beyond normal camping and i'm going to use it, i'll pay for it
to gmcsmoke- TT has been paid for now for several yrs. w/o going into a political/economic rant lets just say i was in a better situtation several yrs ago than i am how through none of my own doing.

RE: cost of running the air

I never figured my at home a/c cost, but the last trip to NC the KOA charged us $2 a day "electric surcharge" which was for running a/c.
gotta love KOA's(and alot of private cg's)-don't think there is any thing they don't charge you for.
the 2 that get me-dogs and guests-what possible impact(cost) could either of these cause the CG? unless you are feeding my guests and 'working' the baggie for my dogs, i ain't paying-i'll take my $$ elsewhere.

RE: cost of running the air

Uh.. my question is this: If you are at home, why run it in the first place?:h
you have never 'driveway camped'? it's our way of getting away w/o leaving(w/o going into detail, we have a grown son at home and always will have). It's amazing what a 100' makes. mine is at home w/full hook ups.
also DW wants to do a day trip(read early start-very early) with nephew/family and figured it would be easier to already have them here(sleeping in TT), but is holding off doing it till it cools down a bit-when ever that will be.

RE: cost of running the air

thanks all
well, it's not in her budget, but that wasn't the question anyhow. I know she equates running the TT air with the house unit-just the way her brain works. I have no plans on running it all the time, just a day or 2 here and there. If i know what it's going to cost i can just hand it to her befor she starts. Our last trip out(4th july) we had a tornado go through(official term, "rotational up draft") I also got a temp layoff then and have maybe a week to go yet. so getting to camp doesn't look to promiseing at the moment. Looking at some driveway camping-killing me having the TT sitting there not being used-but it's been warm enough to need the air. $10 for a weekend beats $50 at the CG plus gas.

cost of running the air

Hi, Has any one figured out(ball park)the cost of running the air. Reason i ask, DW says it's a definate NO-NO (TT at home) as it will cost too much. I figure it's probably $5 to $10 a day. I know there are some variable factors involved(like the outside temp, sun or shade etc) What i'm looking for is more of an average cost.
thanks
