RE: Effect of RPM's on miles per gallon

On my Hemi I have not seen a difference in MPG. I have driven with OD off and on and get the same mpg either way.

RE: FTers using shower house

I use the shower in my TH. The wife prefers campground showers (if nice and clean) since that gives her unlimited hot water and more space along with normally greater water pressure. My hair is gone but she has long curly hair and likes lots of water for shampooing.
To each there own. She also likes to do laundry on trips. I fought it but then realized she LIKES to do it...

That was a great link Dan posted. I never would think a colling fan could use 50hp at 1800 rpms... WOW....

srx-6 is correct. Take your key and have an unchipped key made at a locksmith or hardware store. I hide those keys in my vehicles in case i lock myself out...

RE: New Polaris Countdown..... And It's the RZR4 XP900

900 XP 4 seater definitely. Zero development costs but easy to advertise as new...
The Rzr's have taken over the SxS world where I ride. Many have converted from ATV's and Rhino's. I'm still amazed a real Rzr competitor has not come out for the woods/mountain area rider. The Rzr is the only SxS that handles like a go-cart. (That is a positive)

RE: MOST FAVORED HEAT SOURCE ?

Heated Mattress pads are the best! Temps can get cold and it feels really good in the bed. My friends pop-up has heated mattress pads and that makes a huge difference. Uses very little power also...

RE: Need help figuring size of trailer I can tow.

I consider axle rating the key number on a 1/2 ton truck. The rest of the numbers are "performance" -- exceed them and generally the truck will go slower or overheat. Watch your axle weights and you "should" be OK. With that said don't go buy a 15000 lb trailer that only puts 800 lbs of weight on your rear axle -- you will then find out what bad "performance" really is.... :E
Axle Capacity Front: 3950, Rear: 4000

RE: Heat Pump or Not?

I agree with katoomer. I was at Brimstone in TN parked next to another Toyhauler. It had a heatpump that ran continuously. Very annoying...
Propane Furnaces work well enough IMO....

RE: RV use during winter

My toyhauler has exposed water lines underneath it and the low point drains lower and even more exposed. Gotta winterize it to travel and it has really tough times below 25F. If I go to Brimstone or somewhere in Tennessee this time of year I carry water. I can carry 30 gallons in jugs and use the toilet and wipe off bath. I heat water on stove.
Too much to freeze for me to use the water lines and water heater in really cold weather.

RE: Multivolt Battery Bank?

My club car golf cart runs the stereo off 16 volts (2 8V batts) and the cart runs off 48 volts (all 6 8v batteries). Works but the batteries the stereo pull off of will get weak if I don't do an equalize charge occassionally. Definitely not optimal...

RE: Exercising a 4 x 4...fact or fiction?

I never used 4wd but now use it often. Buy a house on a steep gravel hill and you quickly learn the value of 4wd. I forgot something this morning leaving the house -- engage 4wd so I could back up the drive. If I just had 2wd I would have had to open my gate and exit then come back up the drive....

RE: Got to drive a D.P....wow what a difference......!!!

Funniest thing to me is that when I see used Class A's most have very low miles -- Under 6,000 miles per year. Most less than that. For the few miles most or driven it seems that Diesel or Gas really makes little difference....
Now -- if you drive 15,000 miles a year it would be a huge difference....

RE: Can I turn around in standard cul-de-sac?

Be careful. I tried it with our two month old Jayco 30FBS and an equally brand new Dodge Ram truck. Ended up slow jack-knifing and the trailer put a pinch crease in the fender of the truck. Felt like laying down in the middle of the road and soliciting someone to run over me...
I put a dent in my bumper on my Ram 1500 in a cul-de-sac. Thought I made it fine but I was wrong. Dent is now covered by a NRA sticker.

RE: Ford F150 or Toyota Tundra???

Either has a close to equal chance of being just as reliable as the other. My local ATV club 3 wks ago went to Moab Utah from Winston Salem NC with the vehicles listed below. Only the EcoBoost Ford had issues. It spent 4 hrs in the Manhattan Kansas Ford dealership for a bad ignition coil. Not a normal issue but something that can happen.
For info here is the real mpg on the 4400+ mile trip (all 4x4):
1. 2004 Ram 3500 Dually Cummins pulling 8'x24' Loaded Enclosed Trailer with 3 ATV's 10.9 mpg
2. F150 w/ new Ford EcoBoost towing a dual axle open trailer with 2 Full Size ATV's 12.1mpg
3. 2005 Duramax Diesel with single axle open trailer and 2 lighter ATV's. 15.5mpg
4. 5.3L Chev 1500 Extended Cab 2004 Truck with ATV in back pulling a light trailer with 1 ATV. 13.3 mpg
5. Ford F250 Crew V10 with 8' x 16' Enclosed Trailer and 2 ATV's 6.9mpg

RE: Ford F150 or Toyota Tundra???

Whichever you like best. Both can tow what you listed.
Both are great trucks. Actually I'm not sure anyone makes a really bad one anymore on average. Individual trucks from any manufacturer can be bad but overall quality is really good.

RE: Pink antifreeze question

On the bottom drains the pink stuff does not mix with water. I say that since when I hook back up to water I have to drain the bottom lines or they will stay full of pink RV antifreeze. Just running the water in my Toyhauler will not remove the pink from the drains under the trailer.
My winterizing steps are differentthan most:
1. Drain all tanks and hot water heater (flip bypass)
2. Drain the low point hot and cold drain lines.
3. Close all lines.
4. Pump in RV Antifreeze until it runs out all faucets.
5. Go under trailer and open hot and cold drains back into the RV Antifreeze jug.
This saves the RV antifreeze and stops my lines from slushing up. Using this method it takes 1/2 gal on less of RV Antifreeze. As for dilution -- there is little if any since the color is still medium red.

RE: shoreplug getting hot

plug getting so hot the lugs get loose
I have seen that exact case in West Virginia at an ATV campground. The wiring was incorrect and the plug would get hot and soften the rubber making the lugs loose. This is EXTREMELY dangerous. The issue in WV was the campground owner had converted the ground to a hot to boost the power but yet we still only had 105 volts.
You have something pulling a huge amount of power or miswired. If the power is excessive then you should be able to see your power meter at home spin really fast when you plug the RV in.
My guess is converter. Just curious -- do you have a 12V battery installed and does it work OK?

RE: $15,892.41

For the premium of diesel engines they need to close to bullet-proof. Anything less is absurd. All the engines offered in the 3500 series will pull anything on this board (yes -- even a 5.7 liter hemi)but charging $8k extra and it only lasting 100,000 miles is BS....
