RE: Any one worked in Manitou Springs, CO?

I would also try the Garden of the Gods Trading Post and/or Visitors' Center. There are "a ton" of shops in Manitou and Old Colorado City. I'd suggest searching the internet for store names and give them a call.

RE: Viva Mexico 2011-12

Great story. thanks for the update. We're envious. Our plans are to head your way next winter. We're retired but running a coffee shop in Colorado Springs at this time. We'll sell it soon and initiate our southern adventure in 2012. Enjoy your travels.

RE: 2007 Sport Coach 40' ???

We own and truly enjoy our 07 Sportscoach Elite 40QSL. Bought it new. It had some typical fixes needed: some drawers needed their sliders tightened, the rear TV didn't work/was replaced, some of the little plugs that cover the screws on the cabinets needed regluinging. Nothing serious.
The residential fridge is good, yet concerning. It's wonderful for space, however (comma) it is all electric. If you're dry camping, you'll run out of battery power in one day. We have an autostart generater and when the batteries go low, the gen comes on. It shuts off when the batteries are recharged.
We have had no concerns. One issue I have is the outside rearview mirrors are mounted 'high' and when my wife lowers her sun shade, I can't use the right side rear mirror...I simply use the cameras (rear and side view split screen).
Sufficient power in the Cat 350 turbo. Transmission works well going uphill, downhill or level. Mileage is 7 mpg. And pulling our car hauler has no effect...still 7 mpg.
If you have specific questions, send me a private message and I'll be happy to respond.

RE: Is this in your future?

Quite interesting. Can't picture anyone boondocking in it. The interior is too sanitary for my taste. I'd sure like to see it in person.

RE: When do you lift your jacks?

Interesting, my slides, air dump, and jacks will not operate with the engine running. Guess they don't want inadvertant operation while driving. As for slide out first an in last, it's to prevent binding if the chassis torques after leveling.
Same here: 2007 Coachmen Sportscoach 40Quad slide. The slides won't work with engine running. If/When I start the coach with the jacks up, they immediately retract. I would agree with others....check your manufacturer's recommendations.

RE: Cleaning day'night shades

Agree with box710 and sreeder. Dabbing can clean them. we used a product called Solumel from a company called Mellaluca. We had moth poop on our shades from an influx of moths last spring. It worked fine. Just dab and dab until the grease (or moth poop) comes off. good luck.

RE: slideout

Our '07 Sportscoach has the manual/individual slide locks. We have never used them. I've read some horror stories about not using them and slides creeping out. However (comma) I have not initiated using them. Second, our jacks are also about 7-8 inches above ground. We've had no issues. On a side note....if one feels the jacks are too low, can one adjust them or mount them higher? I've never checked into it.

RE: about to buy

You might also ask for a sewage kit: long sewer hose, connectors, elbow connector, tank deodorizer/treatment, etc. Our dealer added that and it saved us a few dollars. you could ask for a set or two of (orange) lifting blocks. Auto levelers are nice, but swometimes you need to add some height. All these items are relatively inexpensive and the dealer can add them for little cost to themselves.
good luck.

RE: Montana LLC

It is illegal to cheat the tax man by doing things like that. Some states (California and Colorado I know for sure) have gone after the Montana LLC types and assessed them the lost taxes and fees and penalities, often in excess of the value of the motor ome. Several other states have considered it (I have not looked into it in a few years so I do not know the status of that)
My recommendation is don't do it. Pay the tax man up front, costs less in the long run that way.
Indeed, Colorado has investigated, researched, tracked down, assessed and fined people who create a Montana LLC solely for the purpose of avoiding taxation. Check your state's policies/laws, etc.

GOOGLE IT, You will find hundreds of offers to sell. Even then, you better read all of the fine print.

RE: Do/did you hate your floor plan? If so, why?

I can't imagine spending the money that these things cost buying a floor plan you just hate. I would think most of us would do a lot more research than that even if we had never tried to live with a particular floor plan.

RE: Lazy Days

Many people have had good experiences and LD seems like a "stand up" organization. Our only experience was long distance. We had researched and found a class A in which we were interested. We spoke to their salesman named Brian. He was very helpful. We were also researching a local dealer in Denver. We ended up buying a new Coachmen Sportscoach Elite 40' DP from Denver. When we told Brian of our decision his comment was: "Well, I hope you like it. We, here at LD, conside the Sportcoach the "KIA" of motorhomes. Not my much quality for what you're paying.". We weren't impressed with him after that.
And we love our Elite. Four years and no major issues.

RE: Sales Tax

Indeed lots of threads about it. Be aware that Colorado is "going after" Montana Corporations in order to pull in more tax money. If you are discovered owning a Montana Corp and living in Colorado, you pay back taxes and fines. Check into what NE may be doing.

RE: Which MH gets the BEST mileage?

The question is way too "out there". If all you are considering is mileage, then get the smallest 5th wheel and use the smallest, lightest truck possible. You would have a sommuting vehicle along with a sleeping vehicle. That should be the cheapest. Now...pulling a 15-20 foot 5'er with a F150 isn't something I'd want to do for 20-40,000 miles.
You don't seem to be considering your and your partner's mental health after traveling in a pickup and living in a small RV for a year. Your sanity should be worth a buck or two.

RE: Coachman motorhomes

We have a 2007 Coachmen Sportscoach Elite. Bought it new. Needed the driver's window resealed cuz it 'whistled'. And the driver's window sun shade would not go up. No other issues. We love it. Very good quality. Marble-tiles on kitchen floor, residential fridge, plenty of power with Cat 350 Turbo. I hate the high-mounted outside mirrors, though. I know they are all the rage in Europe. When the DW lowers her sun shade, I can't see the right, outside mirror.

RE: Library Cards

I just bought a Kindle because a friend told me how you can get library books on it. You can purchase a program ($30) that removes the epub designation by stripping the DRM. There is free software that converts the file into MOBI. You can then download the book into your Kindle.
The advantage is that the book is essentially yours and will stay in your Kindle for as long as want to keep it.
You do realize by removing the DRM content you are violating the copyright and the law right?
not like they will ever find out or be able to do anything about it....
that's what Napster users thought as they were sharing and downloading music............then the "industry" caught on.
