RE: Check Coolant Level

Both the test strip and coolant are only available through Ford (I am told). Thanks Yeah the Ford dealer also says trucks are only available at Ford too :B Me thinks auto part stores jusssst might carry something that would work also.

RE: Towing beasts we have

Well they are going to need a diet then :B What's a new F250 weigh ? about 8k? With a GCWR (most overrated rating) of 15k your trailer max weight would be 7k :H It would work for some folks who don't tow much weight or some of the flatlanders. I don't think many folks here would be happy with that TV.

RE: Camper drain pipe question

Your good to go, I was just wondering what those two 2x10's were for? Did it come stock that way or are my eyes playing tricks on me :H My camper developed a soft spot in the floor around the heat register. I removed the underbelly and found that the floor consisted of very thin plywood over about 3" of foam board. I installed those PT 2X6's from one side to the other, both front and rear of the register. I then cut a 24X24" of 3/4" plywood to go between the top of the new "joists" and bottom of foam board. I cut a 3X10" slot for heat register and remounted it. Now its solid as a rock!! :B :B

RE: Rockwood wheel bearing failures

You need to switch shops. Mine have ~40k now with annual service. Your not using the "easy lube" zerk's are you?

RE: 5th Wheel Tires

Didn't you hear tire subjects are https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR1k5_dz4jm9IPdVUs89y043pyoyqUhLqgWkZArzVzoDConClHD width=640 Just kidding but I'm in the group that thinks your 13k is total weight with pin. 13k axle weight was pretty rare back in the 90's. Good luck with the new rubber.

RE: Ford 6.7 debacle just gets crazier

As far as the DI "Ecoboost type" of engine goes. You just wait until the carbon/valve deal hits the fan. Ford decided that a dedicated injector is not needed to provide the extra fuel to "clean" the DPF. Oh.. Cummins is also using Bosch injectors and pumps... but which one? There are not many good choices... Selective comprehension I guess Bob :B I believe the Cummins is still using the proven Bosch CP3 HPFP. Same one GM used before the 2011 switch to the CP4. IIRC the Cummins has used the same HPFP for nearly a decade now. IMO the failure of the CP4 seems to be related directly to FILTRATION. Poor fuel quality and 30k psi is not very abrasive :R

RE: trailer tire blowout damage. need repair info

Same for me. Goodyear sent me a check for $6,000 to fix my damage and replace the tire. It is certainly work the effort to submit a claim. Take lots of pictures before you do anything. Good luck. bigdon68 X2. I don't know how GY makes any money paying claims like that.

RE: dmax fuel economy problem

I just filled up the tank today. My last tank I got 10.7 mpg. Seems quite low to me. 10.7 is about right for towing :R Joking aside is that a hand calculation? Can't wait to hear your next MPG report cause 10.7 tells me something ain't right.

RE: New vs Used

Probably a typo... for 8,900$ Dang it, you had to bust my bubble :B I figured for a nano second my 06 would get $200k. :R

RE: Lets talk bumpers

Oh, we in Kalifornia don't descriminate against nail polish owners; we do for gun owners though. :B Yeah that's how I ended up in Idaho, ya hooooo. One of those precious amendments we should all enjoy :B

RE: Might as well ban them all

So, I'm making another attempt. I decided that this topic might be better if it wasn't just in the 5th wheel forum, so I put it in the Tech forum: http://forums.goodsamclub.com/Index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25786030/p/1.cfm Have fun, guys. Just trying to help :B Opps I see someone else posted the link :R

I never figured you as the type who has "clear nail polish" in the garage :B Location might explain it :W I like the winch part.

RE: Eastwood thread??

There were two threads that went off the deep end re super bowl adds. away they went. While discussing the adds are probably ATC threads, they would have gone poof or been closed over there too. Clint himself is not the issue. Marty Imagine that a thread going off the deep end :R I understand Marty, I just thought it was a very interesting concept for a auto commercial. You know something other than just blowing your own horn the entire 30 seconds.

Eastwood thread??

What happen to the Eastwood superbowl thread? I wasn't done reading it and I seemed to misplace it, or it went poof :B

RE: Might as well ban them all

You should try the "diesel place" site. Boy you talk about a short fuse MOD, they have it. Just me but the tire threads are dominated by the couple of "super packs" each with millons of bucks behind them :B

RE: Ford 6.7 debacle just gets crazier

Thanks for the information guys, we didn't cover this IIRC?? back in high school. Maybe it wasn't invented back then LOL. I really found the following paragraph interesting. "Peer-reviewed research published in scholarly journals has established that the increases in lifetimes of articles coated with DLC that wear out because of abrasion can be described by the formula f = (g)ยต, where g is a number that characterizes the type of DLC, the type of abrasion, the substrate material and ? is the thickness of the DLC coating in ?m. For "low-impact" abrasion (pistons in cylinders, impellers in pumps for sandy liquids, etc.), g for pure ta-C on 304 stainless steel is 66. This means that one-?m thickness (that is ~5% of the thickness of a human hair-end) would increase service lifetime for the article it coated from a week to over a year and two-?m thickness would increase it from a week to 85 years. These are measured values; though in the case of the 2 ?m coating the lifetime was extrapolated from the last time the sample was evaluated until the testing apparatus itself wore out. There are environmental arguments that a sustainable economy ought to encourage articles not engineered to lower performance or to fail prematurely. This in turn will reduce the need to support greater production of units and their frequent replacement, which might provide an economic disincentive to manufacturers of such devices. Currently there are about 100 outsource vendors of DLC coatings that are loaded with amounts of graphite and hydrogen and so give much lower g-numbers than 66 on the same substrates." Houston errr Detroit we might have a problem.

RE: Use of Vented Tailgates

BB TX is correct. I did some "testing" on my own while towing in the windy midwest and found a difference of about 1 to 1/1/2 MPG in windy/gusty conditions. In a no wind condition I would expect little or no change. But let the gusting winds get into the small space under the front of the 5th wheel and "pile up" against a solid tailgate and you will FEEL the winds trying to stop the combo. Some say none, but in the 20+ years I towed I DID see a real difference. But it is up to you to decide if the small a change is worth the cost of a flo-thru tail gate. If you buy it for the convenience then I think that is also worth it. Frank This makes perfect sense. Whatever the shape of the front of a fiver, a lot of wind is getting pushed down into the TV bed. A vented V gate is bound to relieve that to some degree. If there is even 1/4 mpg improvement, I'll take it. Ditto. You'll notice the difference when towing.

RE: 2005 GMC 2500HD (diesel)

What do you think fix it or go out and spend alot of money for a new truck???? Would depend on how many miles it had. Sure sounds like it has lots of miles on it.
