RE: Gas Mileage

I get what the others get with my Ford V10. 10 to 11 commuting to work and back with max speed 40. Towing 6,500 lbs I get 6-8. Pulled it up a 12% grade and maintained the speedlimit of 50 mph. I doubt I got 6 doing that though!
I agree with a previous post. Just fill'er up and have a great time camping.

RE: Are we fast, slow, or average in hooking up and unhooking?

What could possibly go wrong?
Use your TV to remove the scissor chock between the tandoms?
Or to unplug your power chord from said TV?
Forget to strap your cooler to the hitch hauler?
Leave a storage door open?
Leave fridge doors closed for 2 or 3 weeks?
Arrive at the RV park with a loosly fitted sway control?
Leave the hitch ball cover on your rear bumper?
Check lists rock...I should get me some.

RE: Sticker shock

You may look into wholesalers in your area. They buy from auction, have low overhead and, therefore, sell at lower prices. Last summer I bought my F250 (in sig) with 58,000 miles on it for $13,995.

RE: truck

The only option is to get an '05 F250 with a V10 and a Dutchman Sport 27B TT. There are no other reasonable choices. Why? Because it's what I own. As low as 6 mpg towing 6,500 lbs - just a smidge over half what the truck is capable of. This keeps you free and clear of all the weight police around here. Some additional advice I'll throw in for free: Travel with full fresh water and waste tanks, take all the gear you'll need for each and every camping trip you go on. Haul concrete pavers to level your ride at the park - they attract more attention than those horrid yellow or orange legos. Burn the fuel. Burn lots and lots of fuel. Get a short box as they have smaller fuel tanks. This forces you to get out and stretch your legs more often. Do NOT get a truck with a limited slip rear end. Sure, they may be able to chirp bald tires when empty, but the fun is in spinning new oversized mud and snow grips (one at a time) when fully loaded. The Dutchman I have, and you should have, will sleep 9; it says so in the manual. Just know that it only sits about 6 all chummy like and really only has room for one or two if they're both up walking around ... never mind that though, it's the best because it's what I have. Both units combined only set me back $29,000.00. Thrify shopping is a whole new subject. I'll post all you need to hear in the "around the campfire" forum. Do your research on multiple forums ... I frequent several of them. And, most importantly, watch out for guys like ... me. :B

RE: duel hitch receiver

I'd consider putting the rack on the car so you can transport your bikes when toodling...

RE: Suburban / Expedition XL Third Row seat.

We love our Expy. When the whole family is together, the seven of us fit nicely. We can easily put the child seats in the rear. I'm 6'2" 220 lbs and can sit in the 3rd row rather comfortably.
With seats folded down one day, I transported a 25 cubic foot side by side fridge and 8' of upper cabinets with the hatch down. :B

RE: Inlaws looking at a 2005 f250 6.0L with 17,000 miles

It's over! They bought a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Quad Cab 5.7L Hemi 4x4 with many extras yesterday! Previous owner actually used the maintenance log and included hand written notes with mechanic's signatures :C on the work that was done - all general maintenance (oil changes, fluid flushes, new plugs at 90,000 miles, etc.) As you could guess, the truck is mint. 112,000 miles for $13,500.
DW is very happy to have her Expy back. :B

Not sure where it was kept. Will learn more and post if they go look at it.
I recommended they pass. But I'm just the son-in-law. ;)

RE: Inlaws looking at a 2005 f250 6.0L with 17,000 miles

Low miles would concern me, has it been clocked or has it had issues both spring to mind? Maybe the salesman is correct, but those creeps lie through their teeth so it's be a rare sight to see him telling the truth. 05 is a decent vintage of the 6.0 though, mine was great.
One last thing, have them check their trailer and needs. F250s are so heavy they don't really leave much weight for payload/pin, only about 2,400 lbs iirc and that's before people, luggage etc. Concider the F350 SRW with nearly 4,000 lbs payload.
They have a 26' Dutchmen that they are currently pulling with my Expy (see sig). Limits are all good.

RE: Inlaws looking at a 2005 f250 6.0L with 17,000 miles

Great advise to ask to contact previous owner.
Also read the "If I bought a 6.0 ?? " thread and with falconman's, billieg2's and all your comments, I think I'll recommend they walk.
They've been fixed on a gassers only until this "deal" came by them. If they're now open to diesel's, they should also consider the other players IMHO.
Thank you all. -Rich

RE: Inlaws looking at a 2005 f250 6.0L with 17,000 miles

Please clarify which truck you are asking about. Your signature and the post do not agree. I am guessing the signature vehicles are yours and the 6.0 is what your inlaws are looking at. Go to nadaguides.com for a price. Early 5.0s had a lot of problems and I think recalls. Low miles and sitting may indicate that the owner had problems and just let it sit. Have it checked by a good diesel mechanic.
To be clear...my inlaws are looking at the the diesel in the subject line. My V10 is not for sale. ;)
I read the thread by ricatic and it does raise concern over the 6.0L for years '03-'05. I'll pass that along to them.
"salesman" says that the husband passed away. Wife kept the truck for quite some time and has finally let it go...
No word on price yet.

Inlaws looking at a 2005 f250 6.0L with 17,000 miles

Hello, inlaws are looking to buy this. It's obviously been sitting a while - will that cause problems down the road? I've read that you want to run these often. Also, are there common issues with this year/engine?

RE: Just checking mileage

I don't pay very close attention, but when I've checked mpg on our '05 F250 V10 (all stock) while towing it's been between 6 and 8. My TT is around 6500 lbs. All readings I've checked towing the same trailer with our '05 Expy 5.4L V8 were in the 8s. Our first trip towing with the Expy our scaled weights with empty tanks (including the Expy's), cargo, kids, etc: TV: 6850, TT: 5280. A full tank of fuel puts us at max gvwr on the TV, so we got the pickup and tow with it exclusively.
I commute to work and back in the F250. Speeds range from 25 to 45, 36 miles a day and, when I've checked, mpg has been 10s and 11s.
If anyone has moded a 3 valve v10 with any increased mileage success, I'd sure like to hear from you!

RE: What did you do?

For my 2005 Expy, I added the control brake and 7 pin plug receiver.
For my 2005 F250, I added the control brake and a 1,000/10,000 hitch receiver ... after getting rear-ended by a Honda Element, said Honda owner paid for about $5,000 in damages including a 1,250/12,500 hitch receiver. Now I just add lots and lots of fuel.

RE: Triangle Tires?

Carlisles came on a new 5th wheel that I had and 2 blew on one trip. BTW, for all you other newbies out there, make sure you have a jack and lug wrench for your new rv ... they don't come with them.
