RE: California Registration Cost?

If your friend has a canopy on his truck and leaves it on all the time then it can be registered as a passenger rig. I have had mine registered this way since 2000 and save $205 a yr on weight fees. I also have personalized plates so it I do take off the canopy the only way the cops would know is if they ran the plates.
I'm sure there would be an expensive ticket,if they did run the plates, and the canopy was home in the garage.

RE: Did I choose the wrong gear ratio 3.73?

You may be surprised to know that many TV drivers have not the slightest idea what rear gear ratio they have in their truck.I have asked a few, usually get a blank look from them.

RE: Downside to quieting the water pump

I replaced our old SureFlo pump last weekend, the new one is so quiet I may have to install an indicator light.I was thinking the same thing - was thinking of a buzzer... :B
Kinda like hooking the cordless.cell phone to a leash so it won't be misplaced?:W

RE: Humor...

Now come on MM, some of us have seen you on the way to Wallyworld.
Now that's humor buddy!
http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss253/rick83864/image0011.jpg width=640
I had the pleasure of seeing this tractor/motorcycle at a tractor show in Arizona. It's really a great piece of work. The modifications are super pro done. You have to look close to see all the
"oddities" that are built in/on the vehicle.Notice the fuel tank?
It's the tank from a milking machine! Whoever did the building of it is quite an artist.
It got lots of smiles at the show. The driver and lady friend were not there at the time so I can't say if the picture is of them or not.

RE: Question on 50 amp service

Short answer.Yes.
There are 30 to 50 amp adapters. The 50 amp sites will provide "up to" 50 amps.
Your trailer will pull "up to" 30 amps of the 50 that is available.
A google search will bring up pics of what you will be looking for.I would bet that the campground will have the 30 to 50 adapters for sale, being as there are a lot of folks that have trailers that are wired for 30 amp.

RE: Bad smell

I had a leak in my grey tank.It was on top of the tank where the drain line goes into the tank.A puddle of grey water would form on the top of the tank when it was full, eventually finding it's way into the belly pan low point where it went out and onto the ground.
I am wondering if you might have grey water(hopefully not black water!) setting on top of the tank where it will continue to smell up the neighborhood till it is cleaned off.

RE: Buy local or drive 9 hours?

After a quick mileage/time check and your description of the location I'm pretty sure where you might be looking to drive to.
If I am correct in my guesswork, you will be well ahead to drive the 9/10 hours.
The factory guys will make everything A OK before you leave.
PM me if you would like more info.

RE: Buy local or drive 9 hours?

We flew from CA to Arkansas to buy our Hitchhiker. As it worked out we did not need any warranty work done. One good thing about buying at the factory,if anything needs to be done when you complete the PDI the factory can take care of it without a long wait time.
I would choose the 9 hr drive.

RE: Should be get new tires

MEMA: We are grappling with the same issue. We have about 10,000 miles on our original tires and are about to drive home, Arizona-to-Maine. Although we had them treated last fall, our situation is complicated by the fact that the 5'er has been sitting in the AZ sun for a year. MaineDon
Treated? Can you explain a little further

RE: Bathroom Tissue

YES....You DO need to use the $$$ RV TP!
As well as RV tire air,RV fuel, anything that is used in or around the RV needs to be RV safe, tested and certified.
Anyone that believes all that will probably use the RV TV.The rest of us....well, you get the idea.

RE: Light-Proofing Bedroom

Rather than use the $10 pillow from CW for the ceiling vents,we found chair pads at WalMart for about $5.They are foam and work well with a piece of foil for insulation,or just the pad to block the light. We use a cut to size piece of
bubble foil for the window in the exit door, attached with a couple of strips of Velcro.

RE: CA I-58 between Bakersfield and I-395

Really watch your speed.
Seems the town of Mojave is a training center for CHP, and they LOVE to write tickets!
Stay within the speed limits and you won't need to worry about the CHP
And,58 is a very good road. We've taken it both directions several times. For the same reason that you are thinking about it...Southern CA traffic.

RE: Why do I need POI files on my GPS?

I have the POI file of all the rest stops on the interstate freeways on my Garmin. It's nice to know how far it is to the next rest area, except when the state has decided to close the one that we were really needing.

RE: Never Lube Bearigs

I just carry a spare bearing with me.It's easier to find a shop to install one than to get one delivered out on the road.Or do as Sealyn does, carry a complete hub assembly.
I check the temp on each wheel at every stop,if one is going bad I have a good chance of knowing about befor it causes a BIG headache

RE: Handy Hints, Gadgets, Products & Gizmos

Not an idea, but a question...What can be done to stop tracking in sand and dirt in to your coach...we camp in an area that has a lot of fine white sand, between us and the gurls, our two fur babies, we are constantly sweeping...
thnks, wolfie
The only thing I have found that works for this scenario is taking the shoes off at the steps before coming in. And that usually works since we mostly are wearing flip flops all camping season.
Shoes off, works the best for us.

RE: Self-Adjusting Trailer Brakes?

I have 7K axles with 8K brakes.Dexter 3 3/8 x 12 1/4 they are self adjusting.
6 years of traveling, about 50K miles, with very little wear on the brake shoes.
I believe that 7K brakes are not self adjusting. The Dexter website will have the information.
