RE: What does "Dealer Stock Only" mean?

Sometimes it means you will never find one at the advertised price. It is often used to get you in the door so they can sell you a higher priced "new" model since "the one advertised has suddenly sold"

RE: Skimboards

You can find them at Wal Mart's by the beach for under $40(plastic) or go to a surf shop and get a laminated one for $90-100+. I would cut my own out of wood, round the edges so it doesn't catch a rail, and put urethane on it. Might want to add some sand to the urethane on the top for traction or use surf wax. They can be fun, but I've seen some hard head knocks when learning.

RE: 2002 Chevy Express 1/2 Ton and 30 ft Toyhauler

I own a 1500 Express and your biggest concern will be the TW of the trailer. The rear of these vans is very soft and I'm not sure a WD hitch will lift it enough. The motor and tranny will be fine JMHO

RE: Will the trailer drain my tow vehicle battery?

I was under the impression new Chevy's had a 10 min shut off of battery drain to keep you from running it down. I know everything else in the truck will shut off after this amount of time including the Acc plugs, not sure on the trailer plug.

RE: Anyone running BFG A/T, KO

I'm on my second set as well. I get ~40k miles on a set running 70 psi.
Are you running 70 when empty? I can tell if a coins heads or tails running over it at 70psi. I get about 50K on my 2500HD, I got over 65K on my 1500 AWD Express Van, I run 45/50 PSI except when towing.

RE: Transmission Cooler

You can also go with a larger finned pan to keep the fluid cooler(more fluid plus cooling fins) Shouldn't be hard adding a cooler since some of those come with a cooler stock.

RE: Trails without vehicle codes in California

Not sure I am following.... what is "vehicle codes" or "vehicle access codes".
At first glance I thought it was meaning no vehicle codes as in California vehicle codes or CVC apply at these places.... but that is not it.
If it's considered a "road" in Cali, you must have a vehicle license (street legal). This list is of trails/roads that are okay for green/red sticker vehicles, another words non-street legal vehicles, usually street legal are also okay unless posted single track or ATV only.

RE: led motion sensor

Has anyone found a good led motion sensor light? I bought an inexpensive one off e-bay last year to install in the bathroom. It is OK for the first 20-30 sec. Then you are flailing your arms around to set it off again. At 3 am aim is important.
Thanks in advance,
Jon
I sit down like a girlie at night:o ...my aim ain't that good at 3:00 am lights or no lights, this way I don't even need to open my eyes :Z

RE: fueling while on the road

My rig is the ame size as yours. Driving from Indiana to Cali was my first trip pulling a TT and it went great. Like others have said plan your exit before you pull in, travel/truck stops have the most room, don't let your fuel get too low. I waited to long to stop and ended up having to pull into a station where there was no room to pull out, I used the first pump with the back of my trailer just off the sidewalk, when I was done I had my wife guide me back the way I came in She stopped traffic just long enough for me to back it out and we were on our way. Not something I would want to repeat, but it all worked out.

RE: Weirdest oil leak I've ever come across...

I was thinking it might be carbon solvent for the canooter valve. For when, you know, you got carbon on yer conooter valve.
:S Pleeeease! His year truck doesn't have the conooter valve! they switched to a philzer bypass valve the year before. If you can't keep up with the changes don't offer advice!

RE: Fresh Meat, Helllllp?!

Ok, ok...so you can all yell at the dumb blonde. I swear it was the one thing I know for sure, but guess what.....IT IS A V8!! I apologize to all those who have tried helping me already. Would ask the hubby but he's working and I did this last night so I could so him the laid out plans of my scheme....had to ask FIL instead.....so yes it is a V8. So, can the camper from first post fit this?? Again so sorry, just wanted to surprise and help the hubby. I'm still a good wife though, right? Lmao
A very good wife! and it sounds like a very good husband and father. You have been getting good information thus far, I just wanted to add my best wishes and prayers for things to work out for you, things can be tough in these times. I love the idea of keeping the family together, and the kids will see this as always camping :) how fun is that! You may also want to look for a trailer that has good cold weather sustainability, a pop up won't be good if hubby is working in a cold climate. A light bed cover will expand your storage as long as you can keep the weight within the limits.

RE: Is Rving for us? Are we alone or are there others....

Wow! Do you really need to be around people just like you? My wife and I are very active,we surf, snowboard, mountain bike, hike, fish, hunt and ride quads. In the winter we often visit a desert CG with a bunch of snowbirds. After a day of riding and other activity we head to the pool to relax. All the snowbirds are there, and we have met some of the nicest people and shared conversations and dinner with many.
Meeting new people with different interests makes life more fun...JMHO of course.

RE: Interesting things seen in Mexico.

Much more than just the police ;) Any country with as much coastal proprety as Mexico yet is dirt poor, which lies just hours away from a country where coastal property starts in the millions is just plain screwed up....but then that's why my family moved north generations ago.

RE: Interesting things seen in Mexico.

In the small town in central Mexico my parents lived in the police drive around in newer pickups with Texas/Ariz/and Cali license plates. When I asked the American expatriates they say they were confiscated from gringos who happened to be in the wrong place when the cops needed to improve the fleet. Don't know if it's true, but it's scary.

RE: Pros and Cons of using tow/haul mode

Mine is always on while towing my rig, with the only exception being flat ground with no wind. I've found it shift sooner and cruises in 6th better out of TH on flat ground

RE: Glamis North KOA Niland, Ca

We keep our th there all winter . There are plenty of trails right out of camp to keep the young ones happy. The owners are great and it's a fun crowd. Lots of kids on the weekends so and i feel people watch out for them pretty well. Pools are nice as are the personal hot tubs. You at least need to give it a try, I think you'll be very happy.
(whoops, looks like I echoed Flyboy :B )

The recommendation I've heard is two bars for trailers in the 30'range. But that too may be industry hype :W

Do you have a seperate water filter on that faucet? Some filters will keep pressure down even when overall pressure is fine.

RE: Interstate or Not?

My first towing experience with my Th was from Iowa to Cali. No big deal, make sure it is set up right and enjoy. Only comments I could give are look way down the road for problems and give yourself plenty of room. Look for large travel/truck stops if you need gas till you have maneuvering down. If you can avoid it don't drive through urban areas at peak commuter traffic times.

RE: Rocky Mountion Towing

I believe Wolf Creek Pass has some 8% grades. Don't know much about the Trailblazer except they seem pretty small compared to a full size truck. How are the brakes, equal to a 1500 truck? I think the 5.3 could handle it, but I'm wondering what transmission is in the Trailblazer. It would be a slow climb and hopefully a slow decent. I think I'd find a less steep route.
