RE: Walmart "Deep Cycle" Batteries - Number of Cycles

From http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Xebra_EV/message/18815
"With regard to the Kirkland 27DC and Wal-Mart MAXX-29 batteries, I got
this message from Johnson Controls:
The deep cycle GC2 golf carts are antimony/calcium (+/-) designed
batteries. They are also deep cycle batteries. These will achieve ~400
cycles.
The other batteries (24M-27M-29HM) I mentioned have a different alloy
system than the golf cart batts, calcium/calcium (+/-). These are still
deep cycle product but do not achieve the high cycling that the golf carts
do.
It all deals with the positive grid alloy (antimony-high cycling &
calcium,
still deep cycle but cannot achieve the cycle life of an antimony positive
grid). Nearly all battery companies use Ca/Ca designs for the group
24M-27M & 29HM."
We do not test our
product at 80% DOD. We run 100% DOD at 80F. The 27M runs between 85-100
cycles.
You can use this battery in a golf cart or electric vehicle. You
would get
longer life if you used the Golf Cart battery. COSTCO also sells the GC2
battery.

RE: Battery?

The posted pic of 'coverter' looks like a Magnatek 6700 series not a WFCO, but it doesn't matter.

RE: Battery?

I'd look on the back of the converter side of the electric center.
The + charge line from the tow vehicle connects to the red wire (converter battery + input).
Trace that wire to the front, splice into it and connect to self resetting breaker and battery +. Add a battery - wire to the 12 v frame ground clamp.

RE: Road-Trip Pop-Up

wklose99, this was kinda like my idea of buying a PU, going to Teton/Yellowstone for 2 weeks then reselling. I bought a '96 in April '05 ($2000, 8' box, max 2000lbs). Basic PU with furnace, no fridge, no A/C, no toilet. It came camp ready with pots/pans, electric heater/fan etc. I camped a few times in '05 then headed to WY (late 8/05). I could have easily sold the PU for what I bought it for when I returned, instead I still own/use it. Be prepared to buy 3 tires, lube the bearings, buy battery(s), sales tax, insurance, etc and repairs on the road!
I compared renting to staying in NP cabin and cheap hotels in transit to buying/selling. Buying and reselling was a no brainer once I found a small inexpensive PU.
Smaller is better! Its only for sleeping. Have a great adventure.
For reference, here's a local N.TX 10' rental.

RE: Extend-A-Stay Excess Flow Works Too Well

What kind of junk can cause the excess flow to clog or malfunction?
Ain't that little ball the excess flow device and the white thermal bushing melts at high temp allowing the valve to close?

Are ya'll suggesting that if an additional battery was added keeping usage the same, a bigger panel would be needed?

Digital 1200 12V Performance Charger and Battery Maintainer

It is temp controlled.

RE: Coleman popups back from the dead?

Do you find yourself being bossed around a lot when you're shopping at Walmart? : )
No. My understanding of the value of a dollar is different from those buying a new PU.
They already have more aliner dealers, seems it is a requirement of the ole Coleman/Fleetwood/FTCA dealers that they've sought to sell Somersets (&aliners).
“Unlike most product launches in the industry, we have decided to grow in a planned and structured manner in order to meet dealer demands in the most optimal way possible,” said Ned Collins, CEO of Columbia Northwest, of the company’s unwavering commitment to quality and attention to detail. “We are willing to sacrifice short term sales growth for long term market penetration, stability, and strong dealer relationships.”
"Columbia Northwest is currently working with the dealer network most recently associated with FTCA as well as setting up existing Aliner dealers to carry the Somerset line where appropriate. The company has assigned over half of next year’s planned production, and expects to have the remainder to be assigned early in 2012."

RE: Coleman popups back from the dead?

Those prices are rediculous and do not bode well for the longevity of the product launch.
They will have to deeply discount from list pricing to sell units.
Did someone not explain to them that the country is suffering a financial depression?
Apparently they are not trying to sell to you!
What is value to you or me is not the same to others.
They have a different bossiness model than walmart

RE: Coleman popups back from the dead?

On the Somerset page they still use the names, where on Beckley's the Utah is now the T12S. A bit confusing, not sure why Beckley's isn't using the names too. Do you think Peco will eventually pick these up?
They didn't get the go ahead or rights to use the names in time, beckey's will EVENTUALLY used the ole Coleman/Fleetwood/FTCA names

RE: WD hitches and unibody

One minivan maker (dodge) required 'em!
A load equalizing hitch is recommended for loaded trailer weights above 1,000 lbs (454 kg) and required for weights above 2,000 lbs (907 kg). (2004)
Later manuals suggested
"Trailer sway control and a weight distributing (load equalizing) hitch are recommended for heavier tongue weights (TW), and may be required depending on vehicle and trailer configuration/loading to comply with gross axle weight rating (GAWR) requirements.

My Colorado gets 15-17 in town, 19 towing <2000 lb PU (mainly highways), 22-24 non towing highways.
