RE: Camping near Yoesmite? Help finding a spot

You can try the Yosemite Pines rv park in Groveland, CA. There is a steep grade to get into Groveland called Priest Grade. But it is do-able. The rv park is about 20 minutes to Yosemite entrance. There is Hetch Hetchy reservoir to visit. And the views are spectacular. To bet to the valley is about another 1/2 hr drive.

RE: Black Water Valve

Doody, I think that you may have found what could be the cause of my problem. I asked the wife what she used to clean the toilet, and she said it was Lysol. I looked at the container, and it contained bleach. We are not going to use bleach any more, or make sure it is well rinsed.

RE: Black Water Valve

The problem was that liquid only was seeping past the seals. After a couple of days, it was quite a bit of liquid. I have a valve at the end of the drain pipe. That is how I know it (the black water valve) was leaking. I got home, and filled the black water with clean water. I made sure the other two gray water was empty. It did what I suspected, it leaked. The valve was changed and fixed. It no longer leaks. It has nothing to do with hard stuff acting like stones. Every time I drain the tanks, I do so ensuring they are completely empty, only fresh water comes out. If I understand the service writer correctly, and it does not make any sense at all, I should have water in the tanks with chemicals at all times. I still wonder, it that is true, why the two gray water tanks don't leak after almost 9 years.

Black Water Valve

I just had the black water valve replaced in my fifth wheel. It is the 3rd we have had to replace in the 8 going on 9 years that we have owned the trailer. I asked the service writer why, as it seemed excessive to replace the valve every three years. His answer was that there should be water in the tank, keeping the seals moist. After I left the dealership I thought about it and it dawned on me, why does the other two gray water valves, which I empty more often than the black water valve, not fail? Can anyone answer that question?

RE: analog to digital converter box questions

To: Ready to Go I had checked and found that they have seperate switches. And I have used the boxes before. In reference to your second question, I had switched them before, and did notice that the problem #1, that is. the input of the signal was not quite the same in the BR as it was in the LR. To: skipnchar I did check them individually. It is frustrating. Maybe I should wish that Santa would bring me two new TVs. Moderator's edit: added a space after each colon.

analog to digital converter box questions

I have two analog converter boxes, one for the living room television and one for the bedroom television. I have two questions. First, when I operate the both tv's at the same time, the one in the bedroom does not catch the same amount of channels as the one in the lr. Why? Does the lr box "steal" some of the signal coming in? More importantly, this past week I stayed at a park where I had previously received channels, not on the converter box. I set up, but could not find any signal, even though the park said that I should get about 10 channels. I changed the direction at every selection, nothing. Why? There is a batwing attached to my antenna. In other places, there is no problem receiving the signal. Now I wonder, if I am receiving all channels? Or is it the nature of the beast to not get all the channels?

RE: Mandatory dumping of holding tanks upon arrival

We have stayed at the Jackson Rancheria RV Park many times. We asked them about why they did the dumping of the sewer before checking in. They said the reason is that they are totally self contained. They do not hook into the City or the County services. They are afraid of introducing formaldehyde into their system. So to assure that, they check every rig and provide them with a blue chemical which is envriomentaly sound. They are an outstanding park. People are impressed with the way they treat all the visitors. They are always cleaning up te park. They provide trips to the casino by bus. They have trips into town. I can't say enough good about them.

RE: Mini oil heater in bedroom

Hi there, I appreciate your input. I re-checked the ad, and checked on the users' comments. There was too much negative, a few positive. I think that I will pass on it. I liked the idea of having a slow, efficient yet small heater, just to take the chill off when it is real cold at night. Say like visiting Las Vegas, to visit my son. It gets down to around 29 degrees. Any suggestions?

Mini oil heater in bedroom

Amazon is advertising they have an Optimus mini oil filled heater for $29.99. I am thinking about getting one for the bedroom, but have several questions. The advantage would be, no noise at all. And, depending on the answers, the heating would be a small amount, just enough to take off the chill. 1. It advertises that it uses 500 watts of power. Is that enough to feel it in the bedroom? 2. Does it get hot enough that placement is critical? In other words, if it is placed in the middle of the walkway to avoid being to close to the cabinet or bed, then will it be in the way (you know, in the middle of the night trips to the loo). Or does it not get hot enough that you can place it close to the cabinet (not the bedding). 3. Is that a good price? (no tax and no shipping) 4. I have not heard of Optimus before, is that a reliable manufacurer?

RE: Fifth wheel leveling systems

We saw them in the Cameos (Bigfoot). More recently we saw them in the Bighorn.

RE: The Next Honda EU2000i Should [fill in the blank]

Make it easy to hook up the green wire (ground) without having to carry a screwdriver. A simple hook up, similar to the one used for the positive and negative would be outstanding.

Is it worth it?

I was looking for satellite finders for a neighbor, and came across some items that I was wondering if anyone out there had any experience in these. For example, I was pricing out the Winegard SF1000 satellite finder, and the price was $31.16 (shipping free) at Amazon. They had two others, both advertised for Direct TV, as being $3.49 and the other $3.72 (+ 4.95 shipping). Is it worth the price difference to get the cheaper models, or should I recommend to him that the Winegard is the one?

RE: Honda Eu2000i generator issue

I don't want to steal this thread, but was wondering if I used seafoam, would there be any reason to use the Stabil or do you use both of them.

RE: Dangers in Organ Pipe National Monument?

It is a National Monument, not a Park. The difference is one (the Park) is approved by Congress, the other (Monument) is designated by the President. We have stayed there for about three years. It is a beautiful place, one worth visiting. At night however, when the illegals are moving, I suggest to you to stay in the part of the monument where there is the campground. The illegals tend to stay away from the campers, and there are plenty of staff, law enforcement included , to assure your safety.

RE: Help! Toilet backed up/clogged!

I had a friend who had a similar problem. He called a rv repair guy out. What the guy did was simple. He hooked up a thing called a hose bladder to a garden hose and put it into the toilet. Then he turned the water on full blast. The bladder expanded and filled the space around the outside of the bladder and the 3" pipe, creating a seal. With the water pressure, it blew the thing that clogged the pipe or whatever, and it was fixed. Make sure the valve is open. Another friend saw this, went to Home Depot and bought a bladder, for about 12 dollars.

RE: need a new antenna

rk911 & MrWizard, I am curious, why do companies, such as camping world, advertise some antennas as HD and others they don't? How does the HD work? And why are there 5 LNBs on the satellite dish? Not trying to create a problem, just want to understand.

RE: need a new antenna

In one of the magazines, either Highways or Trailer Life, there was an article about the JACK rv antenna which is also a HD antenna. Why not use this in place of the batwing?

RE: Portable elect heater query

I don't mean to steal your thread, but was wondering about those who say the Vornado is the answer. Costco, at least in our area, have them on the floor. I looked at them, turned one on and tried it out. I know that in a big store things, such as air circulation is different, but I did not notice much heat coming from the unit and my hand was about two feet away. It was on full power with high heat. The other heater, I forget what the brand was, I could feel the heat quite a ways away.

RE: 2008 Forest River Cardinal

We have friends that own the 2008 Cardinal rear kitchen model. They like it, but the fact that they have had trouble with it, bothers me. One thing that occured around a year after buying it, is the frame cracked. Yes, it cracked at the place where the wheels are. It cost them between one and two thousand dollars to have it all welded back together. Oh, there are other things, but that was the biggest thing. Another couple has had a problem with their 2010, in that the seal around the slide out, came undone.
