RE: My first two knucklehead moves with my T/T

My first travel trailer I got about 12 years ago and it was a 1969 home made 12 foot trailer with a single axle. I went to the campground unhooked it and walked inside and to the back of the trailer. When I did this the front of the trailer with the jack on it came off the ground. Because I didn't have any chocks for the wheels when the front jack came off the ground the trailer started to roll down the hill toward the lake. I panicked and ran for the door which thankfully was at the front of the trailer. This caused the front to come back down and the jack hit the ground and dug into the dirt stopping the trailer from rolling down the hill any further. It was terribly embarrassing but, I was at the campground on a weekend that had very few campers so no one saw anything. I had only had rolled about 10 feet so I re hooked the trailer to the pickup and set it back where it belonged. BUT, This time I put rocks behind the wheels to keep it from rolling. I bought a set of chocks the next day.
True story! Although years later I saw something similar on a sketch during the Red Green Show.
LOL Funniest one yet! I would have loved to see your face when that thing took off!

RE: help with curtain ideas

I attached wooden dowel rods inside of the valance. That works great for us.

RE: When the camper is away...thieves will play

And if you are on the FaceSpace thing, don't post when you are going camping or returning.
X 2 Very Important...I have to check kids facespace thing too...I worry about their "friends" way more than mine!

RE: When the camper is away...thieves will play

When we leave, it is very obvious that the huge trailer is gone. Our neighbors are great and look out for us. Plus, we have old TVs at home and take anything of value with us. If they break in, we call the insurance company and get new stuff!

RE: length of TT for campgrounds

The grade of the site is the greatest problem I have. The longer the TT the more effect the grade has on leveling. I have a 35' (total lenght)TT with a crew cab longbed dually and driving skills make up for alot. We regularly stay on sites advertised as 28' sites. Sometimes it gets hard to level. Being a truck driver that gives me an advantage I guess.

RE: covering windows

I got the black out curtains that you can find at WalMart, Target, etc. Hemmed them to the right length and put them up inside the valances with tension rods. They keep out the light and are good to block the heat. When I don't want it to be dark, just slide them to the sides on the rod. Looks good both inside and out. Amazing how much cooler it makes the interior. I also replace those sort of thin curtains on the front window with them....much better.
X2---We found some on sale at Annas. Used dowel rod inside the valances and have less than $120 in 10 windows. They match our interior and make the TT look very comfortable.

RE: Scales

If you plan to unhitch to get tongue weights, go on a weekend when the truckstop is slow and ask the clerk inside. Truckers dont want to have to wait on a "weekend warrior" to finish fooling around on the scales before they can get back rolling and making money....otherwise what Skip said. The scale tickets will break down the weights from steer, drive, and trailer axels. You can see the seperation of pads on the scales.

RE: What's my fix here? Reese Dual cam question

3/4 bubble is nothing...get your front wheel ride height as close to unhitched as possible, this will keep the front end geometry correct to maintain best possible handeling and tire wear. To worry about 3/4 bubble will drive you nuts making 1/2" adjustments to the height of your receiver head...which is impossible..LOL
