RE: Difference in backing up a fifth wheel

Backing and turning very sharp corners is easily accomplished with a slider hitch and especially a Superglide. Almost 90 degree turns are possible. You should be careful, though, especially in a paved area to avoid making very sharp turns any more than needed. Begin a sharp turn and then take a look at the position of your wheels/tires. You will notice a marked sideways stress on the tires and wheels. Some folks carry sand to spread beneath the wheels when making extreme maneuvers. I've not gone that far, but I'd suggest being careful.
So far, I've ruined two wheels -- not sure what the reason, but I'm suspecting either sharp turns or curbing.

RE: % Off MSRP on trucks

Most of us have no access to actual dealer cost, since there are many incentives available that are not published. I've found the best way to get close to what dealers may be willing to take is to examine big city newspaper ads. In Missouri, I'll look at KC and St. Louis. They will usually advertise a base model of some sort for an attractive price -- may be an upper level model. Look that same model up on their website -- usually the stock number is in the ad. Compare the MSRP with their asking price. This gives you a rule of thumb about what their bottom dollar will be on any similar model, once you compute the percentage difference on the stock number you examined. If you are trading -- well, you have another concern, but on a cash deal, it puts you closer to but certainly not in the driver's seat.

RE: Plumbing Question

If the city water inlet is dripping, that would be the first place to look - it's obviously losing water and pressure there. As another suggested, you might find a plug for that fitting to see if the issue was solved, but probably a new check valve is in order.

RE: How to splice # 6 Shore Piower Romex

I'm a little confused, but I would just probably get some flexible cable and male and female connectors and make a small extension cord. This would cost about ten times as much, but a little more elegant solution.

RE: Hitch Advice

If you can find a Pullrite superglide for $500, that is definately the way to go. You can order the fittings to adapt to your specific truck at any number of places.

RE: MSRP

A few years ago we were looking through some new Wildcats. Since these had just been delivered, the dealer invoice was lying in all of the units. Made for interesting reading.
When I bought my new unit a few years ago, I priced one from RV-Wholesalers and then used this as the price for my dealer to beat. Although my local dealer advertises that they will beat any deal, they did lots and lots of whining before they agreed to match it.

RE: Cell amps and antennas

If you plan to be in one area for a time, I would suggest looking at a cell phone yagi antenna. A yagi is a directional antenna with multiple elements, much like a television antenna. It is necessary to determine the frequency that your carrier is using in order to purchase the correct antenna. Wilson makes several of these. A push up fiberglass pole would make an excellent support for one of these.

Perhaps you could find a Wal-Mart in East St. Louis. (Just kidding)

Champion Inverter Pilot Jet

I believe this issue has been addressed in some of the hundreds of postings on the 2000 Champ Inverter, but I haven't seen instructions. I have a copy of specific pictorial instructions sent by Champion support for cleaning the Pilot Jet which solved my surging problems. If you would like a copy, PM me, with your email address and I would be happy to forward it to you.

RE: RV tilts to right.

Pretty common on older motorhomes. Most larger cities have shops specializing in Springs. Replacing or adding can usually fix it. You also may wish to check the weight distribution, but it's unlikely you can do a lot about it. RVs o not appear to be well balanced.

RE: Campground in norther MO on hwy 65

That's my home territory, but I'm not sure of any CG around there.
When I'm going up that way overnight, I stay in the Wal-Mart at Chillicothe. It's right off 65 by the McDonalds, and there are some places to eat within walking distance.

RE: 2005 Ram 2500 5.9 upgrades

I have a 05 3500 SRW. Auto tranny is great. Adding a Exhaust Brake to the 05 is problemmatic, since code was never written for the computer to allow it. Changing the oil at 3,000 seems pretty excessive and wasteful. It's like pouring money down the drain. Manufacturer recommends 7500 intervals for towing and 15000 intervals otherwise. Changing at 3,000 mile interval would cost about 2500 bucks more over the life of the truck. The old 3,000 mile rule was back in the days of 283 Chevys and slant six Dodges. I think it is kind of a "it's something I can do to feel better" thing. Might be more productive to either knock on wood or pray.

A bit of searching online and you can find the dimensions of your tire brands. If they are equal, it shouldn't be an issue.

RE: LED vs. Plasma

I purchased an LED unit to use in my camper bedroom. The plus is that it uses very low power and it has a 12 volt wall wart for power. I found that it works fine by plugging in a 12 volt battery power directly.
Viewed from an angle, though, the picture is very dark. I'm going to have to mount the unit on the wall so I can tilt it enough to obtain a decent picture while lying in bed.
This may be due to the fact that it is a very low end unit, but it is a consideration. I really like the 12 volt capability and low power usage, though, so overall, I'm happy.
