RE: Motorhome Fire kills 3

On our 2004 Imperial there are three ways out, the front door, the driver side Living room window and the passenger side bedroom window. This cinfig is so that even of the rig is on one side or the other or on fire front or rear there is a way out. I suspect the window was stuck shut, but I have a problem believing they couldn't force it open. The thought of bailing out of my emergency windows is daunting but in the case of fire on my backside I know I'd rather do scrapes and even broken bones to get out. Possibly they didn't know or in their panic didn't remember they were there.
As for the fire, overheated brakes or a stuck disc brake may have caused the fire in the bearing grease, setting fire to the tire. This happened in the Safaris in the late 90's and early 2000s. It must have been a diesel, most gassers have a mid-entry. Something to think about............

RE: Terrible RV Crash in Phoenix

Another testament to keeping an eye on your tires and replacing them when they're too old to run safely. This man may have done all those things but in the case of a blowout, that's all any of us can do. The account says that it was a LF blowout so that means there was probably a witness that saw it go before the crash.

RE: la mesa rv,san diego

I purchased two gas Winnebagos from them, the first in 2001 and the second in 2003. While I cannot say that purchase of an RV from ANY dealer could be a GOOD experience, I did manage to get my anticipated price on the coaches. The PDI and after-purchase service was very good.
When it came time for my DP purchase, I first went to La Mesa and ran into a bad salesman that left me with a bad taste in my mouth. So, I went next door and got a great deal on my present coach from Holland Motor Homes, which has since moved to North San Diego County.
Curious. I've seen several bad reports on Holland in Escondido.
I had one really horrible experience with La Mesa in Oregon. Tried to buy a coach from them and at the last minute, after we had cleaned out our old coach and were ready to sign the final papers, they wanted more money down. Wasn't just a few bucks either, 20k!!! At another La Mesa lot, in Quartzsite we wanted another coach and after dealing price I explained that we'd had a bad time in Oregon. Suddenly the deal changed and the price was considerably higher. Standard lo-ball tactics like any car dealer will do, but, be careful.

RE: CUMMINS C 8.3 DP- JUST TOLD I NEED A NEW HEAD/HELP?

Why not take it to a Cummins dealer for a diagnosis?
After getting that diagnosis and estimate I'd definately go to a Cummins dealer for a second opinion. I've heard of exhaust manifolds cracking but not heads. Go to Cummins website for the nearest dealer.
There is one listed in Savanna. There are 4 others listed.

RE: Thousand trails

Thanks for all your replies, It is a holiday weekend and its just my coach, the member is traveling with me. My main concern is I don't want to be turned away. So what I understand is if I have a reservation then there should be availability. I hope their not like the airlines and overbook.I will try to arrive early and see what happens.
Ken
Our experience is that they underbook. There always seem to be spots available even when we've been unable to make a rez due to them being "full". Th only park we've had this problem is our home park in Calif. Parks like Palm Springs and Vegas are really hard to get into during the high season and they do seem to stick to more strict accounting of space.

RE: For those of you that travel off the interstate ..

We found that there are many local co-ops around with fueling stations that the general public can use. They are less crowded and easy to get in and out of. I've become adept at judging where I can get in and out of.

RE: Motorhome Accident, I35 in NW Kanas

If the driver survived and is honest about what happened we may get a good account of what happened. A blown tire on the front axle can cause a rapid veer if the driver isn't up on how to keep it on the road.

RE: RFI Interference

Ours did a trick similar to this once. After dirving in a heavy rainstorm for a few hours, when I shut the ingine off the main slide deployed!! it retracted when the switch was activated but went back out when released. We got parked and I put a portable space heater in the compartment with the genny and after it dried the problem went away. Apparently water got in one of the connectors causing the problem.

RE: Monaco keyless entry systems

My keypad is failing for the second time. Does anyone have a source for a replacement? The ones from Essex will not work well in temps below 45 or so degrees. I now carry a spare set of keys and key fob in the car in case we get locked out.

Great service at Speedco.

As we were going thru Joplin on our way to Bran son we stopped at Speedco to get the 10k chassis lube done. They did the job in about 30min and also checked all the vitals, tire pressure, coolant level etc. Total cost was $28!!! Too bad they don't do Allison trannies, I'm gonna need the 100k service in another year!

RE: fuel tank

Put a magnet on it-- if it sticks, it is steel. If not, it is aluminum.
Or stainless steel.

RE: Very Bad storm damage in Branson this morning.

We have a cabin in Hollister across the river from Branson. We are not there at this time but have conirmed no damage in our RV friendly community. One of our neighbors works at a hotel on 76 that had no damage.
we are returning to the area in about 3 weeks so we'll get a better idea of actual dmamges then. Here's a press release by the City from yesterday.

RE: What about Speedco service?

Would love to see then open in So Cal.
Hear, hear!! We did Speedco for a full service lube & oil last Sept in Joplin, Mo om our way back to Branson. They actually wanted me to witness the installation of the filters and drain plug, including checking the setting on the torque wrench.
The only oddity is that you have to run yhour rig in "backwards" because the engine is in the rear. The only snag was getting the oil analysis. The office lady was having trouble figuring out how to run the machine.
Talking to the guys in the shop revealed that they had all been employed in similar jobs with other service outfits so they were experienced.

RE: walmart

Living in the WalMart parking lot is what brings local govts to make ordinances against even overnite parking. I've stayed overnite in Walmart and others lots (with permission) but will not stay longer than it takes to get up and leave in the morning.

RE: AquaHot circ pump

Try swapping a relay from one of the working pumps to the socket for pump 3 and verify that your problem is not a bad relay. There is always power at the pump, and ground is applied when the pump is "turned on".
Relays? Mine doesn't seem to have any. I'll go look again tomorrow. I've been able to DL manuals for most of the
AH units except the AHE100 that I have!!

RE: AquaHot circ pump

I don't know this first hand but I read a post somewhere that said the pumps are made by March Pumps and it is their model number 809 BR. Considerably cheaper than buying them from the factory according to the poster. Good luck, I hope that is accurate information.
Thanks for the tip. I looked it up and it's not the pump I need. Thanks,

AquaHot circ pump

I have an AquaHot AHE 100-03S. It appears that one of the circulation pumps has failed. (zone 3) There is power to the pump when zone 3 is selected but the pump isn't running. All other zones are functioning properly.
Does anyone have a source for a direct replacement pump?
