RE: WD Hitch

APT makes a great point. The straight solid bar type will help with sway. The chain type are not as good with sway. I may add that the Equal-i-zer is real easy to hitch when breaking camp.

RE: WD Hitch

A weight distribution hitch is an added item. It has nothing to do with the factory tow package. What a wd hitch does is takes the weight from the rear of the tow vehicle and distributes it to the front using preloaded or stressed bars or chains. It it used between your truck and trailer in conjunction. There are several on the market I use to use the Equalizer because I prefered the solid bar type to the chain type. The people you are getting the new trailer can advise you on this more. Don't worry your truck is fine as is. You will need to get a new wd hitch when you buy your trailer. Usually any trailer with a hitch weight of more than 500 lbs will benifit from the use of a wd hitch. They usually range from $500-$900 depending on the type and brand

RE: propane hose

I have used Vick's Vapor rub on wires and or hoses that have been chewed by critters....it has worked so far. I guess it may be the same principal as peppermint oil. Good Luck

RE: So, you bought a used 6.0 PSD...

$10,000 For a Cummins conversion....not possible. To destroke a Ford will take a minimum of $20-25,000 if you have a real shop do it. Dont forget they will probably want to charge labor to install the new engine. It however is not needed if again you have a good shop do the work. I live in NJ and we have a shop called Auto Wurks Diesel in Caldwell. Although most of the shop guys do drive Dodge Cummins the are pros at the top 3. I spent north of $18,000 to do a complete cab off engine job. It started when my 07 F350 6.0 started to blow fluid out the degass bottle. Egr going bad and head gaskets bad at 32,000 miles. I went for the whole deal..since the cab was comming off why not. I pull a rather heavy fiver and wanted to build a tow monster. I would recommed the following to build it right. It still wont be a Cummins but thats not a bad thing either. This is what I did and LOVE IT..Woke to beast right up. Sinister EGR delete, DPF Delete, 4" Turbo back Banks Exhaust or similar, NEW Intercooler without a doubt including large diameter intake and tubes, New BD Turbo, Re-Machined Heads, Black Onyx Head Gaskets, APR Head Studs, New HPOP, New IPR valve, New Oil Cooler, Larger Injectors, Engine Coolant Filter System, Sct Tuner by Sniper tuned for the BD Turbo, All new Hoses and belt, Mag HyTec Trans and Rear Diff Covers, New Isspro quad pod Trans, Pyro, HPOP, Boost. Trans was tested and is excellent but that has never been the Ford weak link. I do have plans of a new SunCoast Trans in the spring. Obviously this became a toy project for me but I enjoyed the whole process and could not be happier with the results. Rediculous HP and Torque. SCT has 4 levels so you can tow safe and then have fun when your not towing. MPG when up 3 mpg towing and 6 empty. The guys at Auto Wurks are the top shop around. The work is done neat and correctly. These guys are like diesel doctors. Good Luck Have Fun.

RE: 2011 KZ Sportsman 300BH

Well spadoctor has it right. Chuck, Audrey and gang are great. He gave us a great trade in and also knows these units inside and out. I have called him on several trips with small how to issues and he walks you right through. I have a buddy with a older Sportsman and he is not very good with keeping up on it. He only uses it once a year for hunting and it always lights, heats and works. KZ seems to try to use the best products in their unit. After our last tt my wife went into research overload. We narrowed down to 3, KZ, Carraige and Keystone. After reading all the blogs and so forth the KZ ended up to be the winner. Not by a landslide but to the point we thought was a smart purchase. If we ever upgrade it will be with another KZ for sure. The new Stoneridge is awsome.

RE: 2011 KZ Sportsman 300BH

KZ is a great company family owned and operated. I have had several different companies and always felt left out when a problem would come up. I now have a 2008 KZ Montego Bay 5th wheel and I love it. My dealer in PA who actualy became a friend of mine is one of the bigger KZ dealers around. He is C. Neer RV in Equinunk PA. Between he and KZ any issues I have ever had have been solved fixed or addressed with the utmost care and respect. Its a great product and we spent a great deal of time researching after our last tt which gave us nothing but trouble. Good luck and Happy Camping

RE: Looking for a Ford 6.0 Specialist

Ok so a while back I asked you guys for a name of a shop in my area that could help me with my 2007 30,000 mile 6.0 issues. Well I found them. Anyone who is near Caldwell, NJ listen up. A shop called Auto Wurks is the place. Chris and Mike are GODS. It is a small shop very clean and these guys are masters in the big 3 diesels. I mean they know these truck inside and out. The first sit down is to figure out what your needs are. Mine obviuosly TOWING a 15,000 fiver. My big issue and problems started with overboosting and streatching the oem head bolts causing coolant and oil mixing and blowing out the degas bottle, a very cloged IPR valve and bad HPOP was also results of.......a bad EGR...Thanks FORD. Well I love this truck so I went for it $$$$ and here is what we did. A complete CAB OFF head job, machine the deck and polish all surfaces, APR Head STUDS, Black Onyx Head Gaskets, Sinister EGR delete, New BD Turbo Thruster II with Sniper SCT Tuner, new oil cooler, new HPOP and IPR valve, new Degas bottle old one was warped, new water pump and thermostat, new Banks TecniCooler with high ram intake and hugh tubes, new 4"tubo downpipe, new dpf delete pipe I had existing Banks Monster exhaust and cold air intake, They change all the hoses and belts cause while the cab is off why not. I also did MagHytec Rear Diff cover as the stock one was rusted badly. They also while the cab was off treated any rust and coated the underside with yellow wax future rust protection is wise at this point. I also had them replace the******autometer gauges with Isspro and a 4 gauge pod ...hpop pressure(very important for 6.0), egt pyro, trans temp, and boost. I am now towing in the 2nd sniper tow setting and holy******its unreal how easily it pulls and much lower egt, no up and down shifting, great fuel mileage and from 60 mph the thing keeps pulling even at quarter throtle. I have to back off the pedal or I will run into the traffic ahead of me. I have not loaded the other programs which are "street and race/performance" At this point I don't know that I will. The thing is just that fast and powerful in tow 2. And unlike some programmers that will let you smoke the tire off the line this tow 2 still lets you get the load moving before the crazy power kick in so not to do trans damage. These guys build the truck exactly as I asked and man am I happy. I will say I spent around $18,000.00. I know all the Dodge guys are going to say should have got a Cummins but the truth is yes the Cummins is a great engine but even it would need some work including head studs and headgasket replacenet in these towing situations. I had though about doing a "Destroke Cummins replacement" but when I weighed out the cost or even a new truck the deprciation was not worth it. I do love my Ford and it is now just as good if not better than anything out there. So any Ford lovers but Powerstroke haters there is hope and with some money will come very good results. Also you Cummins guys you will be blown away when you see what they can do with Dodges. As with most diesel shops these guys are all Cummins nuts. Well I just wanted to give some advice to all of you who have always been so helpful to me in times of need. Good luck. God Bless and Happy Towing.

Direct TV hook up

Hello All. Thanks for all the help on my last post. I have a question which might just be straight forward. My coach has a central hook up for water, valves cable tv and Satellite. In the main room I have a Winegard Entertainment Select push button control box in the entertainment center. I am sure you know the Winegard box it has "main tv", "vcr", "TV 2" and you can select what goes where such as cable or sat by pushing the buttons. I just got a new Direct TV oval triple lnb dish and 2 recievers. We want to be able to watch different channels at the same time.I am ging to install the second up in the bedroom. My question is this.... If I use the Wingard Box will I only be able to see what is being watched on the main tv even when the buttons are pushed on sat.. Is there a way to split from the entertainment center of my coach OR....Do I need to drill a hole and run the second (bedroom) reciever to the Dish all by itself??? The direct tv people said go into the first reciever then into the Winegard box then install the second reciever in the bed room set the bnutton on sat and the sat signal will travel through the first box be it on or off and send signal to the second box. I was told by another Direct TV rep that each reciever must run to the dish by ITSELF for us to get independent channels. This advice came from 2 people who never herd of a Wingard Select Box or an RV. Please help. Thanks Bruce / NJ.

Satellite Meters

Hey gang. My wife and I just ordered our Direct TV. Never had a satellite before. We have a new seasonal spot (without cable) and pull out to take about 5 to 6 road trips a season. Most of the spots we go have poor or limited cable but are very nice grounds so we finally went with the satellite dish. Can anyone recommend the best way to easily locate and get a good signal?? There are so many meters to pick from. It seems that "Satellite Finder" is the most popular. I am not sure if I also need to get a compus and or would I be better off buying one of those more expensive meters which hook to the dish directly without being hooked to the reciever. The type the pros use. They seem to find the signal real fast. I am not sure if those types of meters are soooo expensive of not. Thanks, Bruce

RE: Looking for a Ford 6.0 Specialist

Thanks for all the help. I did not mention the year it is a 07 F350 Supercab long bed. I really only use it when towing or short runs around town. I have 3 other vehicles. I only have 30,000 miles on her. Last year at 24,000 I installed a coolant filter from Dieselsite.com and did a flush with ford gold and all distilled water. The coolant system is completely distilled. I also change the coolant filter ever 6 months which for me is not many miles. I change the oil and filters at 5,000 mile intervals and the fuel filters at 10,000 intervales. I am a little nuts but it helps me sleep at night. I dont want to be the gut stuck on the side of the road with a 38' fiver, wife and 3 dogs......waiting for a tow. I also installed autometer gauges and I watch over my boost try not to go over 25-28 lbs my trans which usually runs between 160 and 185 unless it's real hot and uphill then around 195-200 but never over and finally egt which at 65mph flat no grade with about 14.500 lbs of fiver behind me runs about 900 -1050 or so I only touched 1200 once and backed off. Twice I blew coolant from the bottle both times after a filter change and once I added coolant to the bottle. I think my bottle fluid level sticker is too high and gives me false readings. Once she blows out and I clean it up there is fluid in the bottle and no more problems. I did however change the cap last time. I think I am over tightening the cap...can anyone tell me if the cap has a ratcheting clicking sound like on a gas cap or should I have stopped when it felt tight and then the over tight action damaged the cap...this is a question I have not yet found an answer for. I think maybe since it only blew the 2 times i did a filter change followed by a top off of fluid I have either overfilled or damaged the cap. When it blew the both times I can remember hearing a loud whistle not the turbo but a whistle and both under a load uphill. Does that sound like a bad cap??? Thanks again you guys are great. I get my best info from you folks. Thanks Bruce Z

Looking for a Ford 6.0 Specialist

Does anyone know of a good diesel mechanic....or gear head who is good with Ford 6.0 issues. I am not currently having problem but want to make some mods and need someone who cares about my truck as I do. I would also like to have someone who understands that I tow a large 5th wheel and need the truck to be tip top. The dealership has a problem understanding that and really could not care.... I live in the Paramus area of Bergen County in NJ. Thanks for any info.
