RE: The goods, and the bads of a Gas MH

To answer the Good & Bad of a gas MH, The good would be cheaper to purchase than a diesel pusher, lower up keep, and maybe a little lower fuel prices. The bad I would say would be not as much power, more engine noise & heat as the engine is in front, and lower resale value. JMO

RE: Going to Knobels.Amusement Park...

I can't help on where to stay, but I sure hope they have the Flying Turns ride open when you get there. If it is, maybe you could come back and let us know. For those who don't know, this was a ride made in the early 1900's. As far as I know there were only two ever built. One in Chicago and the other in Euclid Beach in Cleveland. I rode that one and it was a great ride. Heres hoping you enjoy your trip.:B

RE: air bags

Its really not that hard to hook them to an on board compressor with a gauge. Then you can see if pressure is correct, or adjust for road conditions from the drivers seat. JMO

RE: Dish dual receiver

From what I read, you should be able to hook up 2 receivers to that unit but both receivers would have to receive stations from the same satellite as it only sees one satellite at a time.

RE: Open Office, a Thank You

Powderman426 & cleo423 - I have to comment here. Linux is for tech savvy users not for novice. I earn my living with a computer and I used Linux for several years. Too complex for a novice or casual user! Windows or Mac os is far better for casual users. Or sox or android. That was true at one time, but not anymore. It is way easier to setup than Windows. It will find and install devices without intervention while holding Windows requires you to have or go download the proper drivers. Just drop the cd in the drive and hit the install button. Gee that was really hard.:B

RE: Repair Tear in Awning

Awning many times tear near the trailer because that last bit is exposed to a lot of sun and it rots. If that's where it is torn, take it off and to a tarp shop. They can cut off that 6or 8 inches and sew in a new bead. It cost me $50 t8o do an 18 footer and now its like new.

RE: Dish Receiver 301 and Winegard Carryout

I'm not sure, but I think only certain receivers work with a carryout. The Dish Tailgater will only work with that 211Kthe receiver. That's all I got. :h

RE: Open Office, a Thank You

Ron and Charlotte - I was an early adopter of Ubuntu Linux . Worked great for a while. Now I cannot get it to work anymore. Windows works well these days. I have computers with xp, vista, and 7 on them. All work fine. I have not had a problem virus in ten years. There are excellent free virus and spyware programs. Linux worked ok, but I never thought it was a good replacement for windows. Too incomplete. I have never tried open office. I do use google docs all the time. They work well. I am on my way to putting everything on line. Google drive is new and also works really well. If Windows is working for you, Thats where to stay. I just see many posts where someone has a problem with a virus or malware and I get none of that with Linux. Another area where problems arise is installing new hardware like printers and scanners. They have it down so good now with Linux that in most cases it is just a matter of plugging the device in and it works. No looking for drivers, it just works. The last time I used windows it required setting up the machine for the internet. With Linux, it just works. I hear that Windows 7 is much better. Xp wasn't too bad, but Vista was a nightmare. So the bottom line is Linux isn't for everyone, but it is for me and I try to spread the word. Oh and did I mention its FREE.

RE: Eternabond

As much as I like Eternabond, I would probably not do it, because if there was a roof problem they may say it was caused by that. Now after the warranty was over I would seriously consider using it, but thats me. YMMV

RE: LEVEL?

You might want to check the level on the floor one time to be sure the levels on the trailer were installed correctly. After that just use the trailer. Level side to side using blocks, the front to back using the tongue jack. Then lower the stabilizer jacks and go have a beer. or two, or three. Oh you get the point.:B

RE: Open Office, a Thank You

If you like that software, the next time Windows gives you fits via viruses, malware, or just plain poor design, give Linux Ubuntu a try. It is also free and can be installed on a separate partition so it will dual boot. Its very fast and doesn't require anti-virus software. You can even try it without installing it. Just drop the cd in the drive and it will load into memory. The only drawback to this is when you power down you lose anything you did as it isn't using the hard drive. Some people I know started out with the dual boot so they had Windows available only to find that they used windows less and less. :B

RE: Where to buy portable satellite on short notice??

If you like free, freecycle is where I would try. There is always lots of useful items that people don't want to throw away.

RE: Air conditioning shroud broke.

If your going to take the repair advice, let.me add that you might as well reinforce the area around the four holes for the bolts that hole it on. Otherwise you will be replacing it when it blows off. They get brittle and break away leaving the four bolts and a tiny bit of the shroud. Maxxair makes a nice one. For pricing expect it to be about $150. I speak from experience on this matter.

RE: Repair or replace awning

Well dr quick has his way and I have mine. I am 70, and my wife and myself did one ourselves. I believe it is easier to take the tension off of the springs. The way I did that was to attach a pair of vise grip pliers on the shaft then while holding them remove the screw holding the cast aluminum block. You can then carefully unwind the pliers to take tension off the spring. Count how many turns (usually about 13) so you can get proper tension when reinstalling. Do be careful not to let the pliers slip from your grip, as it will spin and may cause serious injury or at least cause you to use some form of verbage. BTW if the holes are in the first six inches or so from where it attaches to the trailer, you can take it to a tarp shop and have them cut that strip off and sew in a new bead. When I had mine done they charged $50 to repair it and that small portion is not missed. Do be careful though.

RE: Do you use cell phones while backing into campsite?

My wife sits in the truck with me so I don't have to worry about her being in the way. I have two mirrors and a backup camera. So far that is all I need.

RE: Satellite Service?

Dump the cable at home, get Direct or Dish for your home. Then simply take a box from home for each TV you want to watch. Easy. What he said. No sense in paying for two services.

RE: Oil Check question

I would check with the engine manufacturer and whatever they say is the correct amount of oil, then put in that amount and mark the dipstick accordingly. JMO. YMMV.

RE: Bee's in Weep Holes under windows

I don't think that its a good idea to cover the weep holes as they are there for a reason. I would sprays some wasp/hornet killer on them and see if that keeps them from wanting in there.:h

RE: Lubrications - jacks, antenna, slides

For the slideout, I use nothing. Most lubricants also attract dirt. Mine is 16 years old and is still going in and out ok. The antenna also never gets anything on this end. If you do lubricate it, make sure that it doesn't get on the roof if it has any petroleum distillates if the roof is TPO or EPDM. I don't have hydraulic jacks, but if I did I would just clean the exposed part of the cylinder when it is extended. JMO. This may or may not be the proper thing to do. :B
