RE: Headlight restoration project

Now, if you'd keep a regular regimen of rubbing '303'(SPF 40 for your things) on them, they might last a little longer. My '94 Dodge's are still clear as new.

RE: Hartford (AARP) insurance

Yep, my wife's Jaguar ran over some junk and ripped out the radiator, AC condenser and mufflers. Hartford told our garage to go to a junkyard and get used parts to fix it. We refused and Hartford sent us a check for $900 on a $2800 repair. They refused to put in rebuilt parts never mind new parts. They suck.
Went round and round with them and their reply was "get a lawyer" knowing full well it would cost us more to hire a lawyer than we would get back. Did I say Hartford sucks? Got Travelers now. Don't know if they are any better but the same price.
Unfortunately, most insurance companies will put used parts on to fix a collision repair when they can find them. This is usually stated in the policy which most people don't read......
It is usually stated as "reconditioned" or something like that. That means getting it from the junkyard and then cleaning it.
And just where are they going to find used servicable parts for a MH that's been in an accident? A little different for a car or truck where there's millions of each model made.

RE: accumulator

Because it is a variable speed pump and comes on slow with the slightest flow. An acumulator tank would not do anything.

RE: fire extinguisher - fact or myth?

If they are mounted horizontally, the extinguishers will be much less likely to cake; just like required upon boats. They'll still cake, just not as bad at the end of the pickup tube. More likely to work but still need to be loosened up regularly.

RE: fire extinguisher - fact or myth?

I know it probably doesn't need saying, but keep in mind that this is only for dry chemical/powder extinguishers.....I rough up my 10# Dry chemical home extinguishers several times a year but started carrying 3-5# Halon extinguishers in the MH. They're good to go anytime and non toxic to us or our animals for short duration. Non corrosive, Highly effective, & don't need to be whacked upside down.

RE: Hot water flow very low

I had a low flow problem, found check valves were OK, and continued looking. Under the faucets, where the flex attaches, I found a strainer. Clogged with white calcium deposits from the H2O heater. I removed those strainers and now the ones at the faucet discharge are the ones to clog, but easy to get to & clean.

RE: Lost a great vacation spot

A couple of years ago we went to Canon City, Co for a week. There are lot's of things to do there, and most of the attractions allow pets. We were able to take our dogs into the Royal Gorge park and the souvenir shops near the campground allowed the dogs inside. The best, however was a park called Buckskin Joe's. It was a collection of old buildings set-up as an old time town. Some of the buildings were in use; one was a candy store and there was a restaurant. The dogs were allowed everywhere, even the restaurant! They offered the dogs bowls of water at the candy store and while we ate at the restaurant. They were also allowed on the wagon ride and the train ride. It was so neat to be able to actually DO something fun with the dogs. They seemed to really enjoy it, although Callie may have been a little too interested in the penned turkeys! I wanted to go again this year, but sadly, found it closed last fall.
Is there anywhere else like this anywhere?
Canon City is still open as is Buckskin Joes. Their website is up with a renewal 2012 and they're accepting reservations. $28 a night CanonCity. Perhaps you were too late in the season last fall?

RE: Pop Rivet vs Screw..Which is stronger in aluminum?

I'd use Monel Pop rivets. It is a very strong, corrosion resistant metal, better than stainless, especially in this instance.

RE: loss of hearing

I have the same problem. I have been thinking about replacing my flasher with an extra loud one if I can find one.I got an extra loud one, but it's down at the floor and no match for engine noise. Get a light, put it where it can't be ignored.

RE: loss of hearing

I can't hear my blinker and can't see the little green lights behind the dash glass with my sunglasses on so I wired in a bright red LED into the top of the dash in sync with the turn signal. Works for me and I don't have to listen to DW. 10,000 rounds of 7.62 a day hanging out of a Huey door did my ears in along time ago.

RE: Motorhome Insurance Through Hartford (AARP)

Brett, I've had AARP Hartford for several years now and their price couldn't be beat. The company is Hartford, but a special deal through AARP. I've had no claims, but expect no problems if I did. Their MH/RV insurance is under the car insurance but is RV specific and recognizes part time use, agreed replacement, full comprehensive including glass, and a good RS assistance/towing. Check them out, you won't be sorry.

RE: Vent fan

I just took out the rear air in my MH and used the 120v wires to power the Fantastic Vent by disconnecting them from 120v at the fan selector switch and making a jumper to a 12v fuse. Didn't have to drill & fish new wires and it's reversible back to 120v if a rear air is ever added.

RE: V10 plugs / power issues

The headers make it easy to check if you have a dead or misfiring cylinder. Use a IR temp probe and the cool pipe will be the one.

RE: She's Gone....

I would encourage anyone that is hesitant to use Craigslist, to give it a try.
I sold my coach in a REALLY tough place (Alaska) in less than a day.
I too had heard the tales of scams, and spam, etc. As a result, I debated for several months whether or not to list it.
I dropped subtle hints on the board here, tried several listing sites, I got more spam from them than Craigsist. When you list on Craigslist, your email address can be hidden, and you don't need to list any of your contact info, they will forward email to you from their annonoumous email address.
I got only one message that did not look legit, I just deleted it without reading. If you are thinking of selling, it is definatly the way to go.
And use a disposable email for your replies and correspondence.

RE: batteries location

Forget trying to use the microwave with an inverter. You won't have enough battery and you'd have to run the genny to recharge after anyways. Run the genny for 120v stuff and go with your plan.

RE: Suburban 3 burner cooktop cover options?

"I just might add something to the top of ours, as real wood isn't the best for some foods to be cut on, even with Bleaching."
False info!! Real wood has been found to be better for cutting boards than plastic as it is acidic and better at killing germs if properly cleaned. The surface is renewable with minor woodworking skills and if kept oiled with mineral oil is water resistant. I use a product called 'Good Stuff' on mine instead of oil.
