RE: Where Were You?

I was home from Vietnam for almost 2 years, working, and worrying about the many service men (and women)still there.

RE: Saw This Flying Around Palmdale, Ca Yesterday

I remember way back many years ago driving cross country and I was in the middle of no where New Mexico. All the sudden I started to hear this huge rumble that started out loud and got even louder really fast. Scared the******out of me and then all the sudden a B-52 appeared in my front windshield flying directly over me at probably less than 300 feet. I watched as he flew off across the desert at that altitude and eventually out of site.
We had them up here for years. They used to low altitude around the Ute Mountain and then take off to the south with a big black exhaust cloud.

Plan on a couple of days to see Kartchner caverns to take in both tours. The campground there is very nice at $25 a night.

RE: Roll-up thin solar panels?

That's a real good deal! Only problem is I only have 15' 6" of clear roof space. Can those be cut? I understand I'd lose some watts.
Found NEW 124v Uni-Solar laminate panels on Ebay for $199. or Best Offer with free shipping. History of the auction shows they have sold 228 and were selling for $269-$289 and recently lowered the price :)
124v Uni-solar Panels
I know these are not as efficiant as hard panels, but really like the idea of easy install with no holes through the rubber roof and less weight.
I would only like to keep the two 6v batteries topped off while sitting in the driveway and they would help when dry camping a few weekends in the summer at the track when we're racing.
Would two of these panels(248w) work well with 2-6v batteries and my Xantrex C-40Amp 12/24/48VDC PWM controller? Specs here

RE: Considering a MH

I'd strongly recommend you look for one with at least a 228" wheelbase for better ride & tracking.

RE: Bright Idea.

I think we should replace it with LEDs. They use less energy and I know I have less as I age.

RE: Counter Drawer hardware

Take a slide & the bracket to a good hardware store (maybe Lowes) and find a match. There are too many different ones. I have bags of brackets that don't fit any slides I've had.

RE: Trust vs. Will

When ALL assets are placed inside a trust, there is less chance that the estate will be probated by the state or anyone else - not so with a will.
Bingo...correct answer!

RE: Is your home haunted?

http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h351/TCurry1737/Casper-Friendly-Ghost.jpg
Since Halloween will soon be here, I thought I would share the following with you all:
Our home was built 20 years ago on a former dairy farm pasture, in a small grove of oak trees. Soon after moving into the house, we experienced occasional strange happenings: soft knocking on walls, our cats watching as if something was moving thru a room but we could not see anything, my sister seeing an aparition looking out the guestroom window when she and DW were backing the car down the driveway. My sister won't stay overnight with us since that happened, that's OK with me :B Our youngest daughter who is now 25, does not like to stay in the house alone when visiting due to past weird noises in the house. Our three other children say they believe our house is haunted.
After a couple of years living in the house, we were at a party next door, and shared our experiences with an oldtime local of our town. She informed us a son of the family that had owned the dairy farm our house was built on had been murdered 7 years earlier in the oak grove next to our house, about 15 feet from the house.
Fast forward to this past year. After a number of years with only a few unexplained happenings in and around our home, DW & I, who have been empty nesters for 7 years, have experience an increase in unexplained happenings. Examples: hearing soft footsteps on the second floor when we are downstairs, soft vocalizations. I'm self employed, and sometimes when I'm here alone, I get the feeling I'm not.
So this morning, I'm at my desk working, when a movement of air brushed past me and a spare computer power brick on the top of a filing cabinet fell to the floor. That was real weird. :E:EWithout pictures - this thread is worthless.....:D

RE: Used Tranny fluid.?

Filtered & then a qt added to a full tank of gas is good, has a lot of detergents in it.
Neil
What is the volume of gas? A full tank in the MH or a small car?

RE: Is there an alternative to awnings for the slideouts?

My slide has never had a slide awning, has never leaked, and has never brought in any debris.('cause I check if I'm parked under trees) Sometimes, less is more.

RE: Straight talk on straight talk

Think about a Verizon prepaid plan and call them & talk about tethering. You use your phone connected to laptop for Mobile broadband. You can turn it on and off as needed & pay only for the time used.

RE: Parks in NorthEast NM - South CO

If you'd like a real nice, quiet place N. of Taos, Wild Rivers is fantastic (dry camping, developed sites with lovely views of the gorge and 50mi beyond) and right on the way to Alamosa Hwy 160 jnct of SR17 to Salida.

RE: Cracked counter top

What is the countertop made of? If it's Corian or other solid surface, you can effect an emergency repair by getting some superglue in the crack.

RE: TechLite Lumen Master Flashlight

It uses regular batteries and only puts out 100 lumins. Not very bright by todays LED flashlight standards.
I am not sure why you don't think 100 lumens is not bright, but 100 lumens is awesome.
I just got a new 96 lumen LED flashlight for an expedition trip we are going on, and it has the brightest and longest beam of any hand held flashlight I have ever used, and it is only about seven inches long.
I retired my big old clunky mag light since it can't even compare to it.
Jack L
Maybe 100 lumins is bright, but if I compare that to my little pocket LED at 220 lumins it pales. Mine is adjustable and the only times I might use low power is if I had to conserve battery.

RE: Best converter upgrade for both on and off the grid

Math genius at work here :) If non PF 100 is 23a AC then 80 would be 18.4a AC so with 23 being 15 PF'd, then 18.4 would be 12 so the 13.3a Honda should be just right for the PF'd 80:) I thought only the 100 amper was PF'd?
According to bestconverters.com the 75,80, and 100 are all PF'd.
I don't know why they have a 75 and an 80. They ditched the 55 for a 60. I would ditch the 75.
If I were in the business, I would advertise my converter line wrt to the usual generators out there like Honda 2000, 3000 etc and say which converter will run from which gen. I would also give a wiring table for gauge wrt to distance from the battery bank, and make sure the output terminals on the converter will take that size wire.
It is a serious PITA trying to use fatter wire with small terminals and having to jury rig in the various ways with pig tails or trimming strands so it will fit in the hole, etc. That also is a PITA for solar controllers and solar panel boxes.
I would have the terminals be a hefty ring lug type instead of a hole with a screw down, so you could bolt on any gauge wire that has its own ring terminal on it. Then you don't have to try to jam a fat wire into a small hole.
Boy, ain't that the truth!
