RE: Bull Run Campground, Manassas VA

The mosquitoes were horrible when we went but I don't guess that is the fault of the park.

RE: Blanket Reprimands

If a significant percentage of the group is slipping in a certain area, I send out a reminder e-mail to the entire group. If that does not work, I speak to each one individually.

RE: 12 volt ground

I realize that I asked this question yesterday pre-coffee and that picking up the ground from the antenna booster is the easiest and safest way to go. My reason for asking is that I have seen boosters grounded through the antenna coax (regardless of whether or not that is the best idea) What I find interesting in reading the replies is the number of people who can not see or refuse to believe that the 12v negative and the 120v green safety ground are all tied together on the frame of the RV.

12 volt ground

I need to install a 12v receptacle in the entertainment center for a tv. The antenna booster has a #12 wire going to it so it should be big enough to tap into. Now I need a ground. There is a 120v receptacle right under the antenna jack. I got to thinking, the ground on the 12v goes to trailer frame. Doesn't the safety ground on the 120v goes to trailer frame also? If so, is there anything wrong with getting my 12v ground from the 120v safety ground? I do realize that maybe I am not thinking clearly or missing something on a Saturday morning. Anyway, will it work?

RE: Converting a Gooseneck Horse Trailer to 5th-Wheel Hitch

Go to "tweetys" and search for gooseneck to fifth wheel adapter. I am getting ready to get one for each of my gooseneck trailers

RE: Blue Ridge Parkway - Where to stay?

In the northern area of the BRP, Wildwood is about 2 miles off the parkway near Otter Creek. It is a nice campground with full hook-ups.Wildwood

RE: new 12v receptacle for tv

I think my inverter is 100 watts. Actually I just looked and in the entertainment center where one set of antenna connections are, there is no light. What about the antenna booster plate? Most antenna switch plates that I have seen already have the 12v receptacle built in but this one does not.

new 12v receptacle for tv

My Salem does not have the 12v plug for a tv at the antenna connection and my tv only has the straight 120v cord (no brick adapter going to 12v) As we usually camp with hookups, that is not usually a problem. This year we plan to do more dry camping and I do like my morning news. Considering the wattage of a 19" lcd tv, I am thinking that I can just tap into a light circuit, install a lighter receptacle and plug in an inverter to run the tv. Anyone see any problem with this?

RE: Electrical Outlets

The only thing that would not reach in ours was the coffee maker. A nice 2" butcher block cut to the size of the coffee maker raised it up just enough and looks nice too.

RE: Morgan Resorts New Point RV Resort New Point VA

We were there twice in '07 but have not been back since. At the time, there were not many "transient" sites. Most of the stuff that was advertised on the website was not there either. For us, the drive is not much longer to go on down to the outer banks.

How far do you have to go to dump? I put real tires on mine and have no problem towing it a mile or more.

RE: Slow Elecric landing gear

I think they must use the same motor on all of them. The bigger the trailer is, the more they gear it more and that slows it down more.

RE: Credit Card limit update

A couple of weeks ago at a Pilot/Flying J in northeast TN, the sticker said $150 limit on visa but the pump still cut off at $75. I had to swipe again and it worked but it appeared the pump had not been updated to match the new sticker.

RE: Back Up Lights

I plan on doing what Pinesman did above. I have already determined that my back-up light wiring (Yellow Wire) from the truck is active when in reverse and I want to install the same type of running lights like Pinesman mentioned under the trailer frame . I think I will mount my back-up on the two rear sides of the trailer to light up both sides as I am backing in. I usually do my walk-around to determine what is directly behind me that I can't see.
I never did check in with the local DMV people to see what safety inspections and mounted lights on the rear of the trailer entailed. In the automotive world here in Virgina anything mounted has to work and be an DOT Approved type light before passing safety inspections. Sometimes you have to remove the lights before they will pass you on safety inspection. We got away with lights like this in the JEEP world by putting socks over them...
I think I first put the lights on about 4 years ago and the trailer has passed VA state inspection everytime. I just used a set of small round driving lights from walmart, around $20. When I traded trailers in March, I took them off the old trailer and put them on the new one and they still work great. They can be adjusted to face down and to the sides so you still light up the area behind you without blinding anyone watching for you.

RE: Back Up Lights

On my current fifth wheel and the one before that, I put a set of small driving lights under the back of the trailer and ran a wire under the trailer to the junction box that the truck cord goes to. The yellow wire is usually capped off but connects to the back up lights on the truck. Some people may not want/need them but I really like them.
