RE: Duel battery mounting

Don't add another 12v battery,,,,, remove the one you have and install two 6volt batteries in it's place. You'll never worry about being off the grid for a night, or two, or three, or even four if you manage your power!:B

RE: Ventilation during winter storage

We use the Maxair covers and have always left all the vents open all year.
The only time I ever found any moisture inside was the time recently that I had closed them to pressure test a window seal (turned out it wasn't leaking, just a blocked drain) and forgot to reopen them. When I went in 2 days later, there was condensation everywhere.
They're back open now and everything is high and dry.
(what's with this d#%# snow though???)

RE: Best Years For Holday Rambler Travel Trailers

I had my 1998 HR trailer for 13 yrs. with excellent service. In 1999/2000 the HR's took a real nose dive in over all quality. A friend bought a 1999 HR and due to many problems he experienced, he sold it the next year. I can't really speak from experience on the years you asked about.
We have a 2000 since new, other than routine maintenance, it has been trouble free. It is still the envy of all our camping companions.
Had a '97 prior to this (it had no slide and low point drains were in an insane spot), I do miss the low maintenance aluminum roof though.

RE: 2 honda eu2000i's wont run 13,500 btu ac

Two 2000's should be more than enough, I use the same on our TT with no issues. One thing, make sure you do not have the rocker switches set to the ECO mode, if they are they may trip when the AC cycles back on.

RE: Scissor Stabilizer Jacks Backing Down

It's the lube. You should lube the pivot points only. I had the same problem, clean the screw with a solvent like carb cleaner and you'll find they hold tension again.

RE: Weight Stations

No, but I've stopped a time or two when they had no business and gotten a free weight check. The guy in NM was very nice. Nebraska guy wasn't pleasant but did it. Beats $9 at a CAT scale, although that's where we usually go.
If you stop,,,,,,,, and you're found overweight,, be prepared to pay the fine.:E

Any "ill" effects?

As a matter of practice, we have always treated our fresh water tank with a bleach flush at the beginning of the season, but then we end up using bottled water for drinking and cooking anyhow.
Actually, we use distilled water, because I need to use that for my CPAP and it doesn't build up deposits in our coffee maker.
So, I'm curious, have you or anyone you know ever had any adverse effects directly attributable to drinking water from your on board tank, or campground water supply.

RE: Cheap LED light bulb review

I don't know about everyone else, but I didn't switch to LED's to save money, I switched to save voltage/amperage! We are off of the grid most of the time and incandescents suck a lot of juice.
Please note, as well, we only paid about $2.50 a bulb and I have extra's. With all the expenses of maintaining a TT, if I have to replace them every two years, they're still a bargain!
If folks spent as much time coming up with positive suggestions as they do with finding fault, this site would really be awesome.

RE: Can I raise and lower my TT with X-Chock engaged?

From the BAL website:
TRAVEL TRAILERS
Setup:
Step 1: Get your trailer as level as possible from side to side by driving your low side tire(s) up on blocks. Before disconnecting from your tow vehicle, place a "wedge" chock behind each rear tire.
Step 2: Disconnect from your tow vehicle.
Step 3: Using your tongue jack, level your trailer from front to rear.
Step 4: Extend all four of your RV jacks to the ground using the handle provided with your jacks. It is a good idea to use a hard piece of wood or other block under the jacks' foot pads to prevent them from sinking into soft surfaces. If one side of your trailer is lower than the other, start on that side cranking down your jacks. Apply enough pressure to each jack to raise the trailer frame into a stable position. Check levelness by using a BAL bubble level (model #: 25025) placed inside your trailer on your kitchen table or a counter top. Whichever side of the bubble level you need to raise to get the bubble in the center of the level, is the side of the trailer you need to raise. You want to have equal pressure on each jack leg. To accomplish this, you must "feel" the crank pressure required to turn the jack screws on each of your trailer's jacks. When each screw requires the same pressure to turn it, then you have equal pressure on each jack. If you have good side to side stability in your trailer, stop cranking, if not crank a little more.
NOTE: Do not raise any tire off the ground by using your BAL jacks. If you apply too much pressure to the jacks, your doors and windows may not close properly or you may bend the jack leg(s).

RE: Can I raise and lower my TT with X-Chock engaged?

I'm just not sure if getting the TT level, then installing the x-chocks before I remove the TT from the hitch will damage the axles. Do the wheels need to be free when the TT is raised or lowered?
More likely to damage the x-chocks than the axles, the wheels should be free moving (ground chocked) while leveling, then install the x-chocks.

RE: Can I raise and lower my TT with X-Chock engaged?

We always chock the wheels before touching the tongue jack at all. We did this for years, and learned the hard way the one time we forgot as we set up in the rain and got a little off kilter. As my DH raised the hitch off the ball of the truck, the trailer moved backward due to the slope of the site. The tongue jack slid right off the back of the block it was setting on and the bottom plate bent. The only thing that kept the trailer from moving any more was the fact that the safety chains were still engaged. Ever since that incident we not only chock the wheels before touching the tongue jack, we also leave the safety chains engaged until the trailer is completely disconnected from the TV and the trailer is brought to level.
X2 on leaving the chains on. But, unless I'm mistaken, the instructions for the BAL X-Chock say to not adjust jacks with the chocks in place. I use 4 of the plastic wedge chocks while I'm setting up and put the x-chocks on after I have the trailer how I want it.
X2 on this! You should always chock your wheels with a conventional wedge type chock when unhitching and leveling. If you put the x-chocks on then jack the trailer to level you could twist the x-chocks.
The x-chocks are designed to reduce wheel motion when the trailer is sitting on the tongue jack and stabilizers. You do not want to put your safety on the strength a half dozen pieces of steel strapping stretched between your wheels.
I do have a pair of the x-chocks and they do an excellent job of what they are designed for, that is reducing the motion of a level and secured trailer
