RE: Help - Is there any strong wifi device that can boost signal

We had the same problem and this is the best, cheap solution I've found for $37. I went from four weak signals to 12 strong signals. The high gain Yagi antenna is fairly directional and the stubs need to be in a vertical plain for best results.
I too ordered one of these don't think it was from this seller.
mine did not come with a cd program disk I am unable to get it to work. some are made in china and not supported by realtech.
if you order one make sure it has program disk.
I use the yagi with my ALFA awus036ew it works very well.
Don't for get to turn off your laptop wifi.

RE: What Not to do at a gas station

I was Po'ed when I brushed a pole at a filling station
I was watching cars that were parked in front of me
I didn't even know I had hit anything until
I backed in at home some 200 miles later.
easy fix but one that could have been avoided
unlike the one in the picture which looks like a bigg problem.
wonder what he did who to call or just use a match.

RE: PAYPAL

Just signed up for a Pay-Pal account and looking for the lowdown on how to use it, send money, request money, add money, using the account to pay someone for a purchase, etc., etc.
Give it to me in simple terms please...:)
Over looking those who have a axe to grind with pay-pal you will find
using Pay-Pal to be very easy and safe to use.
when you buy something and pay-pal is an option to use just click it and follow the instructions very easy and safe.
I donate or "gift" using pay-pal each month, again when the site has a gift icon click on it and follow the instruction.
much safer than using credit or debit card.

I too have stayed in KOA parks and found them to be very nice and friendly.
I have visited a KOA near clearwater very over priced so I stayed at a resort lower price and much nicer.

RE: Think your fuel miliage is bad now

if you really want to save gas walk.......
I'll bet some people said to good ol' Henry Ford
henry in 2011 people will have to use electric to recover from all the damage your darn gas engine has caused to the world's air.
To which Henry relied Oh yea and how about those cows of yours and the amount of gas they put out?
My daddy always said somepeople would kick even if you hung them with a new roap.

RE: WiFi Security on the road/Laptop

Be sure you know what you're connecting to. Some busy places attract folks who set up their own wireless networks that mimic a legitimate network. Theoretically, they shouldn't be able to get your banking info since that's encrypted from your PC to the bank server, but they may be able to access anything else you do online.
Not trying to be a smart A _ _ but does this really happen?
I have been manny places across this country and never heard one camper say they had been hacked.
http://www.prweb.com/releases/iyogi-reviews/wifi-hotspot-security-gap/prweb8709931.htm
I read the link it just says what can happen not that it has happened.
But (isn't there always a But?) try to make your system as safe as possible lots of good ideas posted here already and more to come I'm sure.

RE: Using TV coax for FM radio

I had to use two connectors to come up with one that fit the radio and the antenna
if radio shack has them that would be the easy way to go

RE: Just what is an "APP"?

I am learning a lot with all the answers thanks!
with the onset of old age my mind is not as sharp as it once was.
for 41 years I designed and programed PLC controlled machines, I had the ability to picture a problem and come up with a solution while talking to someone about a completely different subject I have been ask many times "how did you do that?"
I would tell them I don't know that's just the way it works.
any of my fellow Ham radio operators who did morse code knows the feeling.
now I'm lucky to remember my name.
again thanks,I need to find something to do that causes me to think but isn't dangerous to anyone.

RE: Could you do with out a computer?

Another thought: Without computers, we wouldn't be HERE!
I knew someone would get the irony of the question.
the real reason I ask was some people say "I'll never use a computer; I have no need".
my 71 year old brother was one until his son gave him a laptop.
now he really enjoys using it he keeps in touch with his children grandchildren and greatgrandchildren as well as our relatives who are spread all around this great USA.
Thanks for all the replies.
Like others stated I could but I sure don't want to.

RE: HP closing tablet and Phone products

I worked in a foundry we made aluminum and Iron tire molds for all the major tire company's then we got into aerospace products.
One new manager decided we needed to get rid of the tire mold business
and concentrate on the aerospace product luckily for the company and the "new" guy's wiliness to listen he found out that the old tire mold business made a lot of money and allowed us to get our foot in the aerospace door.
which I'm sad to say both are gone no longer do we make tire molds nor anything for aerospace.
so maybe the new guy at HP is shooting the company in it's foot.

RE: Just what is an "APP"?

I will try to ask what I am trying to figure out another way.
are the "APPS" stored on oh say an I-Pad?
If so, and there are what seems like thousands and thousands of APPS
32 gigabites doesn't seem like a whole lot of memory in which to store them.
I have a 4 gig NANO I-pod I use for audio books my GF has a classic 160 gig IPod
that she can store 40,000 songs on they serve us well for our uses.
I guess if I wanted to place some of GF's songs on my 4 gig nano I would have to choose which ones unlike her she can have them all loaded.
If this is how the APPS work on an I-Pad then maybe I do understand.
thanks pete

RE: Just what is an "APP"?

"App" is just short for "application", which would include both Excel and a calculator program.
Tom
Tom Please don't take this wrong I understand what the contraction "APP" stands for maybe my question should have been "how do app's work?
I also understand that excel, word, adobe, microsoft office won't fit in to the 8G, 16G or 32G tablets or smart phones.
It's hard for me to get my limited brain power to understand how they work no matter how many definations I have read.
can anyone explain them to me?
Thanks Pete

Could you do with out a computer?

Could you live without your computer, smart phone, laptop, tablet?
Do you really, I mean really need any of them?
I get monthly bank statements quarterly retiremen statements, I can drive to the library, credit card statement comes each month as do the phone, electric and utility, bills.
Every year they send me property tax statements, uncle Sam never misses sending me forms to pay income taxes.
so do you and I really nead a computer?
This statement is what made me ask.
"We have an iPad, a couple of laptops, an HTC Thunderbolt 4G, and a MiFi 4510 4G"

Just what is an "APP"?

I have a 71 year old brother (I'm 69) he just started using a computer about this time last year.
He does fine with e-mails and some web searching, the other day he ask "just what is an app"?
I tried to explain until I realized I don't know what an app is; is it a program like excell or word that requires a lot of memory or is it like the calculator that only does simple things, add, subtract, multiply, and divide and doesn't require a lot of memory?
Or is an APP like the desktop Icons that take you to the big memory program somewhere requiring you to have wi-fi or 3G?
technology is passing me at a rapid rate I just figured out PONG.
can anyone explain APPS so I can understand what they are?
thanks feeling very old
