RE: Progreso, Mexico Dental Implant

We have had all of our dental work done in Nuevo Progreso Mexico the past 5 years and have been 100% happy. Some of their equipment was more up to date then our dentist in MN. And the crowns they used were made in Mc Allen Texas. I wonder if anyone bashing the dentests in Mexico actully have had any work done there? Dozens of our friends also go there and I have not yet heard a complaint of any kind. pawatt, would you mind sharing the name of the dentist you use? I sent you a PM

I sent you an email & PM re some good dentists we have used. Also lots of used class A's down here. Look at RV park bullitin boards and in the Winter Texan Times paper.

You may also consider driving over. Many people do. The tourist police will help you find a parking spot. They do appreciate a tip of about $2.00 & will watch your car.

Sidewalks are wooden- NARROW- and full of merchandise, people and kids (who should be in school). Be very carefull maneuvering through all of that and have a big lock to safeguard your equipment. Happy trails, The sidewalks are not wooden? Where did that come from? Not so sure you need the big lock either. The people of Nuevo Progreso are very good to their visitors.

RE: Happy Groundhogs Day

It's already spring in South Texas, Flowers are blooming, the neighbor lady just brought over 5 ripe tomatoes fresh from her garden. The citrus trees are covered with blossoms, butterflies are flying, bees buzzing, birds singing and the Mockingbirds mating. Yes, Spring has sprung here.

RE: Staying in the Galveston area

Checked out that route. Logged it into our itinerary. Thanks Ron You are welcome. We enjoyed the Galvaston area. The fishing boat docks on the bay, the historic downtown, walking the beach & seawall.

RE: Staying in the Galveston area

Please keep the suggestions coming folks, we're heading that direction after we leave Harlingen. Already have reservations for Goose Island State Park in Rockport and the Galveston area is the next stop after that. Time to get the MH wheels a rolling. We're leaving at the end of February, following the coast to....? I suggest you go to Freeport then get on County Rd 257, Gull Drive & Bluewater Hwy. This is a good paved road that follows the Barrier Islands to Galvaston. After spending some time in Galvaston go to the NE end of the Island and take the Ferry to Bolivar Island. The ferry can handle just about any size rig & is free. On this route you totally bypass the terrible traffic of Houston. Follow Hwy 87 to Hwy 124 & high Island. Follow NE to the TX / LA border & Port Arthur. This is where we started heading north in LA forrowing the TX ? LA Border, Beautiful Piney Woods.

RE: To Park or Not Park

I would buy a small economy car to run around town with. That's what we did 3 1/2 years ago when the price of diesel got to over $5/gallon. We ended up buying a 2001 honda civix ex sedan with a sunroof, in great shape for $6650. I have put 80k miles on it in the time i've owned it, it's been nothing but economical and a pleasure to own. It gets about 37mpg highway, or about 34 around town. I still have my duramax for hauling the toyhauler, boats, flatbeds, etc. But for just running around why burn the expensive diesel and wear out tires that cost 4x as much? Hell, I even drag a 4x8 flatbed around with my civic if i'm just towing a quad or dirt bike around, saves me tons of fuel. Let's take a look to see how economical it's been. $6550 and it gets 35MPG vs your truck that's say 15MPG. You're driving 23k a year. so you're saving 1150 gallons of diesel. IF diesel was a dollar more than 87 you're saving $1150 per year. With that it would take 5.7 years to recoup your initial investment. So by the time you break even you'll have a 13 year old car with high miles and probably needing replaced. Doesn't seem too economical to me. And this is before factoring in the cost of insurance.

RE: vanilla from Mexico

No set limit, you can buy for gifts for family but not for resale. We were thinking of getting a case. It is very good vanilla, lasts for years.

Not only do I know the place...I know they people too! They are friends of mine from Retama...that's Greg, Bonnie and Barb!! Small world.... 2 out of 3. It's Greg, Bonnie and Sue!! Must be the side view...sure looks like Barb Burquist...Sure gonna miss Greg and Bonnie, they're pulling out for the last time today. Bought some land in Tenn. and are building a home.... Yup, we will miss them too but they reminded us several times that they are putting in an extra RV pad with electric for visitors.

RE: Winter Vacation vs. Snowbirding or being a Winter Texan.

well, I guess if you want to use the word "snowbird", you have to do what the real birds do...go south for the winter...not a week or two! I will go with this. We go south for 6 months.

RE: Contest, Anyone know where this Snowbird hangout is???

Rancho El Charco's La Joya? Correct!!! To get there take Hwy 83 west to La Joya Texas. Turn south at the Wataburger & follow the signs. Watch out for 3 or 4 wicked speed bumps. Great Margaritas, Sweet Potato Fries & Buffalo Burgers. Service can be slow at times but the setting makes up for it. Open Thur - Sunday with live music in the afternoon. Be sure to check out the horse & wagon tour of the ranch, the waterfall & the swinging bridge. Also fun to feed the fish, fish food $1.00 at the bar.
