RE: Flooded our KZ spree TT please help!!

Insurance company totaled our camper. We can finally move on. thanks!Good deal! :) I wouldn't want it after that either.
What I would like to know is why RVs are made so they can't survive a flooding. It happens.
Ours has had plumbing leaks throughout the years and has survived with quick drying procedures - mainly because the interior cabinets are made of real wood, the floor is marine plywood and there is no fluffy insulation underneath to hold water. We'd be scared to buy a new RV 'cuz stuff happens.
At least this thread has opened some eyes to turn off the water when you leave. We actually have a note stuck up over the door that says "Water OFF?"
OP - keep us up to date on what you replace your TT with!

RE: Photos of my new Jayflight Travel Trailer...

What do you do with all the pillows when you sleep or sit on the couch or dinette? The throw pillows we have in the S&B even get stored till one is needed for a head when lying on the couch.
We're more minimalist/practical and have to admit we have almost zero counter space in our TT.
But - you did a beautiful job of adding color and interest. :)

RE: Holding Tanks

You are in a unique position - you can do what you want. If I was you I would connect your grey water lines to your tank and call it a grey tank. Then get yourself a cassette toilet that has it's own tank with wheels.

RE: Ticks!

From the CDC....
How to remove a tick
1. Use fine-tipped tweezers and protect your fingers with a tissue, paper towel, or latex gloves. Avoid removing ticks with your bare hands.
2. Grasp the tick as close to the skin surface as possible and pull upward with steady, even pressure. Don't twist or jerk the tick; this can cause the mouth-parts to break off and remain in the skin. If this happens, remove the mouth-parts with tweezers. If you are unable to remove the mouth easily with clean tweezers, leave it alone and let the skin heal.
3. After removing the tick, thoroughly disinfect the bite and your hands with rubbing alcohol, an iodine scrub, or soap and water. This is what I found and followed. I have some really fine-tipped tweezers and grabbed at the skin under the tick - didn't want to squeeze the tick and didn't want any head parts left in there. https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRmMhIZ2YeS-QeDFn4KNpoywznzgvBbBVZ_poA4HwvTgvUuWJMC height=40
Haha at reading these posts.
I dont think some of you could handle it in the northwoods of WI. When out in the woods, I get at least 4 ticks per day. Last year I applied tick preventative a little to late to my Black Lab dog. I had to pick 36 ticks off of him. He was only in the woods for 3 hours. Not fun on a black dog. Missed one and it got to the size of 2 corn kernals before I got it. Had another engorged on him this spring about the size of 1 kernal. Ticks are just part of life here.
BTW never had a deer tick stick in the skin yet. Deer ticks are the small ones that carry Lymes. The big wood ticks dont carry Lymes. All the ticks we ran into so far this spring were deer ticks. Little things. When I saw mine I thought it was an especially dark mole till I brushed over it with my fingers.

Ticks!

Everybody (at least east of the Mississippi - don't know about further west) watch out for ticks! They are more plentiful this year because of the mild winter.
We ran into a bunch in NC and VA and now that we're home in PA we're not sure whether the ticks we've found were brought home with us or whether they are right in our backyard.
Anyway - just found one in me and pulled it out. Thought I was gonna die. Had to look up on the internet what to do - use tweezers and pull straight out. Matches didn't work.
Just an FYI...
Anybody else see more ticks than usual?

RE: Trailer dolly ?

Take a look at harbor freight. They have them and you don't need a membership.Yes - we've got one of theirs that is good for 600 lbs. tongue weight. Works great.

RE: Cool Mods

Wow.....39 new posts since I last checked. Must be some neat Mods I need to see........NOPE.:h
And to think, I have to remind my kids how stupid they look when they have an argument on facebook for the whole world to see.:S
I've heard good things about the accumulator below. Never used it or tried it myself. Good Luck and let us know if you do it. Pics are always a good thing.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/shurflo174-24-oz-accumulator-tank.aspx?a=422840Believe it or not the argument continues for the whole world to see... :R
Anyway - I added the accumulator - it works great. I especially like being able to flush the toilet if I forgot to turn on the pump.
Here's a pic:

RE: Downside to quieting the water pump

I replaced our old SureFlo pump last weekend, the new one is so quiet I may have to install an indicator light.I was thinking the same thing - was thinking of a buzzer... :B

Retro to the hand pump for real water awareness :B
That's funny. We actually had one. :) We had to pump up the pressure in the water system to make it work in our old '74 Scotty camper.

Downside to quieting the water pump

This past mod season (winter) I replaced the water pump with a Shurflo Revolution pump with a rubber mounting base. I added an accumulator tank and replaced the plumbing lines around the pump and accumulator with flexible hoses. Everything tested out well at home and it was definitely more quiet than the old pump.
We carry about 1/3 tank of fresh water when we're on the road. On the first leg of the first trip of the year we were pulled off in a rest area for lunch. Turned on the pump to wash our hands and whatnot, then ate lunch. After lunch we were going to clean up the dishes and there wasn't any water. One of the low point drains had come slightly open and been leaking. The pump was running the whole time without us hearing it and all the water was pumped out onto the ground.
Moral of the story is - rejoice in your loud pump - at least you know when it's running! ;)

RE: The old buggy met its match!

you have the 302 or 351?351W
I see 4:56 gears in your future. :)And get even worse than 8.4 mpg? Never!
Been up and down it quite a few times, I know those "west of the Mississippi" think we have only "hills" back here, but that is a 7% grade that goes Up and around for 7-8 miles if not more and with the turns, never allows you to build up any speed...it's even more fun going down....That's the one - thought it would never end!
Thanks for the responses guys - not planning on doing that climb again any time soon. We pull the camper across I-68 in western MD every year and that's about the worst we want to put the truck through.

The old buggy met its match!

We normally keep to the speed limit within a few mph, but I-26 going south into NC from TN slowed us down big time. The temp was climbing up and up to nearly 215 and we let her drop to 45 mph.
What a long, steep climb! :E
Felt like we were Lucy and Desi climbing that 8000' mountain with the Long, Long Trailer and we didn't even have one rock on board.
We made it down to Asheville and home again - through a bunch of the Appalachians... 79 to 19 to 77 to 81 to 26... What a truck!
Anyone know the grade and length of that climb? One of the few roads that didn't seem to post those statistics...

RE: How to break the ice with our CG neighbors?

The weather?
At one of the CGs we were at on our last trip these are the things that started us talking:
The sunset - which site had the best view to take pictures from.
Hot enough for ya? Knowing we were from up north (using license plate logic) and not used to the 80s!

RE: Cracked shower base

Yeah - ERS - I wouldn't use silicone. It's not the best at sticking to plastic - I would clean it up with acetone and use Eternabond. Who cares what it looks like since it will be replaced.
But - since you did the silicone - run water in there and look underneath. I bet you'll be scared to take a shower though....
FWIW - I had to redo the bracing under our shower too. They are meant to be braced - not float. :R

RE: Transporting a Baby Q

That's a good idea, ours just goes in the truck. I'll have a look for a bin, is your Q the large one?No - it is the small one - a model 100, otherwise known as a Baby Q. Good luck finding a big enough bin for a large one...
To the folks who just throw it into the back of the truck - we wouldn't be so particular if that's what we did, but since it is in the passenger area we have to contend with the smell... And as far as cleaning it - can't seem to clean it well enough so it doesn't smell. I do believe this container would work even in bear country!
Thanks all for responding... :)

RE: When are you ready to go home?

{snip} So tell me, when are you done and ready to get home? Or are you ever?! :)Never. I could be a fulltimer in a NY second. Not so DH. :(
I would even go so far as to say I could be a fulltimer in a TC - or better yet a Tiger.
I love going.

RE: Newb - Low water drain point?

"...and draining the low point drains will not empty your water heater also - that has to be drained separately"
Well i'm not sure about that. At least on my TT. I opened 4 low point drains last week. Two of which are knobs that your turn under the trailer by the tanks. The other two are in the drivers side rear storage under the water heater. Those are the pull-up variety. When I pulled them there seemed to be a little pressure behind them. Later when I unscrewed the plug on my water heater, nothing came out. Not a drop.
All this was done while trailer was sitting level. After I hooked up to put back in storage, I was amazed at how much more water came out.
I stand by what I stated...
Well than, any idea as to how my hot water tank was empty when I unscrewed the plug?Don't worry DE88ROX, mine empties too. :)
