RE: State Parks

I for one am going to side with the OP. State parks can be really scary places and I wouldn't go there if I was you. Especially Rocky Gap SP in western MD. Don't go there. More room for us. :B

RE: Need narrow cutlery tray

Check out Bed Bath & Beyond - they have lots of different sizes of storage options for drawers and anywhere else.

RE: wash and wax your trailer

I wash our trailer with a car wash mix, the garden hose and soft brush after every trip. Wax it once a year with Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845. It is stored inside, so want it clean before it goes in. Lots of wax on the front really helps to get bugs off.

RE: Basic GPS Wanted

We use a Garmin Nuvi also. One thing you should know about the lane assist - ours only shows the lanes near big cities - around Washington and Boston is all so far for us. There is a hairy interchange near Binghamton, NY that doesn't rate lane assist.

RE: Traveling with no reservations . . . .

Until last summer, I have ALWAYS made reservations. I'm a meticulous planner, and not knowing for sure that somebody someplace has a spot with my name on it for the night is unnerving for me. I like the reassurance afforded by reserving a site. It helps me sleep better. That being said, we winged-it on one of our trips this summer, and I found it oddly liberating. We had a destination in mind, and knew there were several options in the area, so we rolled the dice. Of course, our initial destination was full-up mid-week with ZERO available sites. However, the ranger was able to give us a list of nearby campgrounds to choose from. We rolled the dice and ended up in a VERY nice, newly-renovated RV park (our first experience in such a place). Turned out to be one of the nicest campgrounds we've ever stayed at, for only a couple of dollars more than the original rustic campground would have cost us. We're definitely planning on heading back to the area this summer for a week. Even the wife is looking forward to the adventure!Okay... The big question is... Will you be making reservations for that week at that special CG? :@

RE: Question on Progressive Surge/Voltage Regulator placement

I agree - it is the remote display that you've been seeing. When we installed ours we put the actual unit where the 30 amp cord comes into the trailer *before the converter* and then installed the display unit inside a closet so we wouldn't have to see it blaring all the time. ;)

RE: 1990 Fleetwood Prowler 35BH

Is it possibly a park model? That seems awfully long for a draggable trailer, plus with sliding doors...

RE: New Tires For Small TT Heading to Alaska

Not to hijack Michelle's thread, but is there any downside to using Range D instead of Range C on a small trailer? Or is tougher always better??Tougher is *always* better! In this order, my suggestions are: Hankook RA08 ( available in 195R-14, which is same diameter as your 205/75) Maxxis 8008 Kumho 857 ( if I'm not mistaken the 195R size is made in Korea ) These are all load range D tires ( higher rated than you LR C ) and should be run at 65psi. When you get your new LR D tires mounted, ask your installer for metal valve stems. If your FF has the same aluminum wheels that mine does ( can you show us a photo ? ), then Tredit ( the company that imports these wheels ) told me in an email they are safe to inflate to 65psi. Going to Alaska, I would certainly take one spare, and if it were me, I would consider two spares, but that may be overkill. My personal opinion is to avoid tires made in chinaI agree with door number 3 - we got the Kumhos made in Korea and have been pleased.

RE: What to see and do in Asheville, NC?

Thanks so much! We're definitely going to see the antique motorcycle museum. One of the highlights of our trip to the Thousand Islands was a visit to the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY. I think on the day we go there we will also drive into the Smokies and hike up Clingman's Dome. Another day we might go south and see Hendersonville, Carl Sandburg's Home, Brevard and then the Pisgah Inn. Another day we can drive some on the BRP - most of that can really wait though - till we retire and can soak it in with time on our side. Oh man, I am starting to think we will need 6 months!

What to see and do in Asheville, NC?

We've already got our reservations in for early May at a CG near Asheville. It will be our first trip to the area and we want to make sure we don't miss anything. We have a few things planned so far... Go to The Biltmore, walk around the downtown and the historic Montford area, maybe see the NC Arboretum near Lake Powhatan... We'd like to take a drive through the Smoky Mountains and would especially like to take a scenic hike there. Any suggestions for route/trail? We enjoy history, architecture, art, and nature. So... what are the must sees and dos while in Asheville?

RE: Californian Moving To Ohio..Winterizing TT?

First of all, welcome to the Midwest....flyover country to most folks living on the coasts. {snip} I disagree... At least about Toledo. No better place than right on the Great Lakes! Easy access to Michigan - and Canada - and Chicago. An RVer's dream country. :C As far as winterizing - you've got good advice. I would only add that you just need to think like a liquid. Liquids expand and get hard when they freeze. You will have to take out anything with liquid in it - lotions, canned food, pop, BEER...

RE: Upgrading Coach to LED Bulbs

One thing I'll mention... You are not supposed to touch the actual LEDs. I used a rag or paper towel over my fingers to install ours. As I remember it, that was on a little instruction sheet that came with the ones we got from SuperBrightLEDs We love out LEDs too - the batteries don't even notice them. I saved some money by only replacing 1 bulb in each of our 2 light fixtures. Just turning on one light has proved to be bright enough for us. :D

RE: 6'2" Husband needs bed he can sleep in and standing room

I don't think you'll have any problem finding a trailer that your husband can stand in. My DH is also 6'2" and we've never had (or been in) a trailer that he couldn't stand up in comfortably. The 2 things you need to find are a long enough bed (or the ability to make it longer - no walls or obstructions at the end of it) and a shower he can stand up in. Lots of folks have done mods to lengthen their beds, and lots of tall men end up using the CG shower house. Our trailer has a lower profile than most, but surprisingly DH has no trouble standing or showering in it. :) Try before you buy.

RE: Where and how to sell?

We've personally bought large, fairly expensive items off RV Trader, eBay, and Craigslist. All perfect transactions. We even bought one truck sight unseen and wired the cash through the bank - eBay transaction. As a seller what you have to be careful of is how to accept payment. If you do your money transaction at the bank (before giving possession and title) with either a cashier's check or a wire transfer you will be safe. And - I agree with asking for help from someone you trust. Good luck!

RE: Law & Order in the Federal Park System

Here it is in a nutshell... In December, the area became part of the national park system, which requires that all dogs be on a leash, Levitt said. The ranger was trying to educate residents of the rule

RE: How do you use your trailer?

It's a place to sleep and eat (well, we eat out sometimes). During the day we are out seeing this great country and Canada.X2. Our trailer is our rolling hotel room that especially likes to go to state and national parks for a home base. We're out adventuring and exploring most of every day. Each evening we eat, relax, and watch movies while cuddling with our cats.

RE: Customer CARE at Fantastic Vent is great.

Fantastic Fan is very well known for their supurb customer service. Like replacing a fan motor nearly 5 years out of warranty for free. Good company!Replacing a bad motor out of warranty is an exceptional act of customer service... Replacing a cover that was damaged due to customer negligence falls under "insurance". Personally, I want good customer service, but don't want to share insurance payments for other people's negligence. If pasusan would read my OP I went to Simi Valley RV and tried to order a cover because it was MY fault. I tried to order the cover from Fantastic VENT after explaining how the damage occured. Neather would take my money. The new crank mechanism that was included was really nice because the old one was worn out and after 22 years of use I would have paid for that too, but no deal at Fantastic VENT. Fantastic Fan is now Fantastic Vent, I would bet that the previous owners required a name change in case Attwood didn't carry on the Customer Care they established. Goodnes but we got our moneys worth out of that accessory.OP - sorry if you thought I was ragging on you. I am thinking the fans would be cheaper to buy if they replaced only defective parts rather than any part, any time, for any reason. We love our Fantastic Fan also and wouldn't want to live without it!
