RE: Campground for Paducah Quilt Show

The Paducah quilt show is extremely popular. The DW has "suggested" several times over the years that we "need" to go. Have not yet.
From what checking I have done, nearby hotels, motels, and campgrounds fill up well in advance. If you check rvparkreviews.com for Paducah, on the right side of the screen it will list nearby "cities with RV parks" out to about 30 miles. You can click on each of those cities and see the parks and ratings for each and see if there is anything near enough with a decent rating.
I used the "... right side of the screen list with nearby "cities with RV parks ..." to find a site for the Paducah Quilt Show for DW. Works great! Found a nice site on the Ohio River to fish all day while DW is at the show :B

RE: Webber 200 very little heat

You might be trying to light it too soon after turning on the tank valve and/or turned the gas on too fast. There's some kind of safety device built into the grill that limits the flow of gas if you try lighting the grill too fast after turning on the gas. Try turning off the tank valve, then turn on the tank valve (slowly) and let it sit for a while (I think the manual says 15 min.) THEN turn it on and light. Good luck.

RE: Photo of 2 sewer hoses ( and why I took it )

Go to the Jackson Rancheria in Jackson California. When you pull in, you get assigned your spot, then you pull up to the dump station and THEY have ATTENDANTS that empty your holding tanks BEFORE you go to your spot....Dennis
Last time I was there they also gave me their black tank chemicals to use rather than my own.

RE: Suggestions on getting to Yosemite NP

From the above post I suggest that you don't take 140 all the way down to merced to catch Hwy 99, then you have to go south to Fresno when you can take hwy 41 out of yosemite and catch hwy 99 in Fresno cutting out all those miles. Just my opinion
Good point othertonka. I'm used to having to come back North on 99 to get to Ripon :B Taking 41 would save a lot.

RE: Suggestions on getting to Yosemite NP

What everyone has said about Tioga Pass, etc. is true. Iffy at best for your time frame.
Here's another suggestion:
Take 101 South into CA to Highway 20 East
20 East over to I-5 South
I-5 South to Sacramento and take I-80 East to Truckee, CA
Truckee, take Highway 89 to Lake Tahoe
... While at Lake Tahoe it's a short trip to Carson City, NV and Virginia City.
From Lake Tahoe take Highway 88 West to Jackson, CA and take Highway 49 South to Chinese Camp where it hits Highway 120
Highway 49 takes you through gold country but it can be windy at times
Highway 120 to Yosemite
Visit Yosemite
Leave Yosemite via Highway 140 West/South
Take 140 to Highway 99 and Merced
Highway 99 South to Highway 58 East in Bakersfield
58 East to Highway 395 (Kramer Junction)
Highway 395 North to Highway 178
Go through Death Valley National Park using 178 or 190
Both Highways will get you to Pahrump, NV
No matter what route you take, have fun :)

RE: 2011 Winnebago Vista Rust

It is a 2011 and should still be covered under the warranty- take it back to the dealer and make them fix it or get you money back. At the rate it is rusting it won't be safe to drive this time next year.
Todd
I agree that it should still be under warranty. First saw this post on another forum. If this was my unit I would have taken it back to the dealer a long time ago and worked with them and/or Winnebago to have this issue rectified. What did the dealer and/or Winnebago say about the condition of your unit? What have they done to rectify the situation?
Something out of the ordinary has occurred here IMHO!! Or else there would be a multitude of Winnebago Vista owners complaining about the rust problems on their Vista.

Here's what I use. You can find it at Home Depot in the drip irrigation department. Works great for me.

RE: For future internet service on the road, MAYBE

Will be great when they offer UNLIMITED. I use about 50GB a month with Clear 4G unlimited so I watch as many movies as I want as well as all the other internet functions.
BUT, it IS getting better!
As long as all the companies are pushing how much can be done online, the need for more bandwidth will continue to rise. 5GB and 10GB Caps just don't cut it.
Thanks for the post, it does look like a step in the right direction.
BTW, my Clear Mifi is much smaller than a 5 gallon bucket and fits in my shirt pocket easily.
Sidney
Just checked out the 4G Clear MiFi and with it's unlimited data usage and no contract requirements it sound likes it would be a great solution to take on the road. I would like to use it for the normal internet access requirements, Netflix, and Dish Online services. But I did not see any mention of 3G! Since 4G is still limited to large population centers what kind of coverage do you get outside those centers? Does 3G kick in or does it go dark?
Just chatted with the Clear sales department and the 4G Clear MiFi only works with 4G which means right now it's limited to the large population centers. They said that once I get out of the 4G range the service does not work :( I guess when the entire US has 4G coverage it'll be a great service to have. Too bad it doesn't fall back on 3G.

RE: USB port adapter ?

I would suggest getting yourself a small USB Hub. Plugs into a USB port and provides you with multiple USB ports. They come in all shapes and sizes. From what you are saying you probably would not need one that needs external power to work. Instead it gets it's power requirements from the USB port you're using.
But if you plan on attaching external drives and/or other devices you might need to use a USB Hub that has it's own power cause some drives, etc need more power to function properly than is otherwise provided.
I would just you visit Radio Shack, Best Buy, or any computer store and they should be able to fix you right up for a relatively small price.

RE: Hotel toiletries

Used to do a lot of traveling for work and I always brought home all those hotel toiletries cause I figured I paid for them and who knew but I figured I would put them to good use someday. Stored them for quite a while and then a couple of year ago I packed them all up and sent them to my Brother In Law who was serving in Iraq. He and his men were so grateful and I was glad I saved them.

RE: Service dealer lying to me

Been fortunate enough to have any warranty/extended warranty work done at the two local dealers where I bought my previous 5th wheels and didn't have any issues with either one. A friend bought his 5th wheel from a dealer which has no service department and saved some $$. He soon found that to get anything fixed he was low man on the totem pole when he visited dealers to have work done. He has since found and independent RV shop that takes care of him in a timely manner with reasonable rates.
Noticed that my current dealer (waiting for delivery on a Vista 26P) is a member of the Route 66 RV Network. The networks claims that "No matter where you travel, there's a network of dedicated, service-minded independent RV dealers to help you if you ever need service or repairs on the road. So you can travel with confidence, knowing that "like home" service is available at any ROUTE 66 member dealer. Currently over 150 locations nationwide and growing."
Have no experience dealing with a Route 66 RV Network dealer (hope I don't need to find out) ...

RE: California Dreamin' - April visit - UPDATE - need route help

Tiago Pass is worth the drive but unfortunately it historically opens again in mid May to mid June time frame (see: Tioga Pass Opening Dates).
Your options are basically what you mentioned and I would opt to take Rte 58, etc if you go that way. But an other option you might look into is to take 395 North and visit Mono Lake, then continue North on 395 to 89 and visit Lake Tahoe.
From Tahoe I would take 50 West to Sacramento and take I-5 to Rte 20 West. Take Rte 20 to Highway 101 North. You can then visit Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Redwood National Park, etc.
An other option after Tahoe would be to visit Carson City, Virginia City, and Reno. From Reno you can take I-80 West to Sacramento and hit I-5 North, etc.

RE: Refueling Issues: Size Matters

ALSO, regarding truck stops, are there pumps in the back where the trucks go, for gasoline?
It's been my experience that there are no gas pumps there and the diesel pumps are only for trucks and not diesel pickup trucks and/or DP RVs. Course I'm sure there are always some exceptions.

RE: Googles new Privacy Policy - Look Out!

No one says you have to use Google as your search engine ... many of us remember and have used computers since before the internet was invented/implemented for the general public. There is NO expectation of privacy when using the internet other than when you are using a secure site (i.e. https://).
You don't have to be subjected to Google's policies. Change your default search engine to Bing, Yahoo, altavista, cuil, excite, ask.com, etc. As pointed out by others, Google has spent millions of $$ to develop their technology and they are not a non-profit company.

RE: Fayetteville, NC to Monterey CA I20 or I40?

If I read your post correctly you're asking about CA-120 and not I-20 correct? Army base in Monterey? I know there's a Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey that has members of all services attending. My son got his Masters there. He's in the Navy :) Fort Ord is in Montery but that was closed decades ago. They will LOVE Monterey :B :C
I would take I-40 to Barstow CA and then pick up CA-58 to Bakersfield. Continue with CA-58 until you hit I-5. North on I-5 to CA-46 West. CA-46 West until you hit Highway 101. North on 101 till you get near Monterey and then cut across West to your Son-In-Law's base.
Enjoy your trip! Depending on when you go back you might want to use CA-120 and visit Yosemite National Park and then take CA-108 across Tioga Pass (closed during the winter but this year it's been very mild) to CA-395. You could then head North and visit Lake Tahoe, Carson City, and hit I-80. I-80 East will then take you to Salt Lake City ...
Lots of options. Live in Central CA and am familiar with the Monterey area cause we visited my Son and his family often. PM me if you have any questions that I might help you with.

RE: how to power up carryout

I just use an AC to DC converter that has a cigarette lighter outlet I bought at Radio Shack and plug it into an exterior AC plug. Didn't want to worry about wiring issues, fuses, etc. Works great! Using an extension cord also allows placement beyond the 50 ft cord limit which comes in handy now and then :)

RE: Alaska- Church Book

Also, don't forget to get the Alaska Toursaver book to save quite a bit more than it will cost you. One tour out of Seward or Valdez will save the price of the book.
We used the Toursaver in 2010 and yes it is worth the cost. One thing to take into account is that they often only have so many spots per day when you can use your coupon. So make reservations early for your event/tour.
