RE: President's Club+Good Sams Junk mail

Go to the Good Sam website and opt out of receiving mail.
Yes, it takes some time to receive new card. You may not get one though. I heard, not sure if it is fact, that they are cutting costs on mailings. You need to write new expiration date on card. Sound strange to cut costs in one area and not in the massive mailing advertising areas.
I just checked again and there is an option to opt out of EMAIL. I can NOT find anywhere to stop them from filling my US Mailbox.
If someone can find it PLEASE post here.
Four out of five days, items in the mail this week from Good Sam. :-(

RE: Install Rand McNally 7710 GPS

Best buys has a large selection of gps mounts. I went with the Bracketron model. It adheres to the dash but without any sticky glue, it's like a tacky material with no residue. Pretty neat. 1 year and has never come off, but if I want to it pulls right away. I have the RVND too and the base is large. This works with it.

Thanks to all for the suggestions.
I ordered one of the mounts from Best Buy and it was even on sale. :)

Install Rand McNally 7710 GPS

Just wondering how/where others have their Rand McNally 7710 GPS mounted. The suction mount does not stick to our vinyl padded dash and only for a short time to the wood on the console area.
The old Garmin was smaller so I had it in a sticky weighted mount on the dash.
Thanks

RE: Jacks..up or down??

I am more concerned about possible rust on the jacks than weight on the tires. Our jacks would be up and stored.

RE: quadra big foot levelers

Is the light for that jack red or green? If it is Green the switch on the jack is probably stuck. It needs to be Red to retract.
Also Quadra has a good tech line (800) 752-9815

RE: Booth Dinette???

When our kids were young & traveling with us our motorhomes had booth dinettes.
Flash forward: A booth was standard in our Tiffin RED 36QSA but ours has the optional "Freestanding Dinette with Computer Workstation". With this option we have much more storage that is much more accessible than former under the seat booth storage.
Great option

RE: Class A Diesel or Gas?

I agree if you buy a diesel you have to use it.
For the family with a couple weeks and weekends of travel a year a gas coach makes the best choice.

RE: Motorhome Insurance

We have had State Farm for years. When we bought our new Tiffin the dealer said he would get us other insurance quotes to save us money. After a couple days he called to say he could not beat our State Farm rate and we should stay with them.
Great service and no surprise increases like some here complain about from other companies.

RE: Triton 10 or 454 better?

I am considering moving from my smaller Toyota motorhome to a bigger class A. i noticed some have the 454 and some the Triton 10. Is one better? Does one have certain advantages? Does one have more of particular kind's of problems? Are both equally easy to work on? These would be about 98-2001 units. Thanks Doug
To clarify, those years were the change over years. Of course these dates are by year and approximates depending on supplies.
1998 Pxx chassis were built by GM came with 7.4 Liter (Chevy 454 engines)
1999 Pxx chassis were built by Workhorse with 7.4 Liter(Chevy 454 engines)
2000 Wxx chassis were built by Workhorse with 7.4 Liter(Chevy 454 engines)
2001 Wxx chassis were built by Workhorse with 8.1 Liter(GM engines)
The 2000 and newer Wxx chassis had the problem brakes built by Bosch.

RE: Ride Quality

A couple questions is how old was the Holiday Rambler DP? Did the owner have any of those foam sheets between pots & pans etc.
After two gas MHs our Tiffin RED is amazingly quiet going down the road. Wife complains about an occasional slight squeak near the microwave, but I cant hear it even when she is driving.

RE: Extended Warranty..

IMO you are better of putting that large chunk of $ in savings so you have it for repairs. I have self insured for 20 years of MH ownership.

RE: Buying a Used Class A

25,xxx miles. Pretty well loaded. 2 ac units, 2 TV's/HD converter, stove with oven, microwave, ref/freezer, hot water heater, air ride & compressor system, solar battery charger, sleeps 4-6, full bath, large rollout awning, Onan generator, rubber roof & auto step.
All those options above are normal options or standard features, except I am a bit confused on the "air ride" comment. A Chevy chassis of this year would have front air bags but I have never seen one with "air ride"
We had a 95 Bounder 34J for about 12 years. Great MH. No slides and I did not want any when we bought it because of problems of those years.
Check tires, emergency brake, airbags, roof and for exhaust manifold and water pump leaks. Also check Does frig cool on both elec and gas?

RE: Toad Tire lock up

....... I contacted Brake Buddy people and it was my fault in these cases as I forgot to "bleed" the brakes before towing. You MUST bleed the brakes by stepping on the brake petal a few times while hooking up the brake buddy. ......
I have to admit this sounds bogus to me.

RE: 2008 and newer models with diesel filter - any issues?

Another question - I just read on another form that the C7 is not as good of an engine as the Cummins. I always heard Cat was a good engine. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.
Hogwash! That's like saying a Ford is not as good as a Chevy. CAT made an excellent mh engine, regardless of size.
Ron
Cat does not produce a diesel engine for motorhomes that meets 2010 emission standards. Only choices now are Cummins, Navistar and the new Detroit 13 liter engine.
Of related interest about Navistar engines not making EPA standards. http://www.americanmachinist.com/304/News/Article/False/88434/

RE: Winnebego MH Sales Chart

I'd love to get my hands on Tiffin and the other private firms as well. Unfortunately, they are privately held and have no obligation to give up their numbers. The only two sizable public firms I know of are Winnebego and Thor. Fleetwood is also public, but since they went through their financial problems, it's hard to incorporate their data.
RVbusiness.com reports there were 12,700 Class A MH delivered in calendar year 2011. Another article has Tiffin Sales #1 in Class A sales with 21.1% of market. 12,700 x 21.1% or about 2680 units should be close.
Keep in mind Winny is the leader in Class C sales so they actually sell many more MH units than Tiffin.

RE: What is the best tow car for a Class A

We recently purchased a 2004 New Mar Kountry Star with an 8.1 Chevy Workhorse engine and would now like to get a vehicle to tow behind it. What vehicle make the best toads? Thanks for your response, Jonlin
