RE: KOA Resort Fee

Did not intend this question to start KOA bashing. This is the first time that I ever encountered this type of fee and I wanted to know what it is for. I might add, that when there are other fees at campgrounds, they are generally for additional service. Like cable vs no cable or 50 amps vs 30 amps. Will still make my decision on total cost, location, rating etc. Would be nice if they provided an explanation on their web site. Nick

KOA Resort Fee

Just checked the KOA near New York City web site. They list a " $5.00 Resort Fee" per day on their reservation page. Does anyone know what this is for? Does it get me something extra? Thanks Nick

RE: Towing Through Cleveland

Take US 90 until downtown then switch to RT 20 and Rt 6. Will take you along lake through the west side of Cleveland, Lakewood, Rocky River, Bay Village. Mostly residential but an easy drive with an RV. Along the lake but only a few places to pull over. I would go as far as Sandusky. You can easily cut south and get on US90 or the Ohio Turnpike when ever you wish. If you are traveling in the summer, a must stop is Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky. Best in the world for roller coasters.

New Jersey coast to NY City

Are there any trains with routes near the New Jersey coast (north of Atlantic City) that go into New York City? Similar to the commuter trains into Boston. Thanks Nick

Old fashion lawn chairs

Found this site for buying old fashion, light weight, made in USA lawn chairs. Check out http://www.lawnchairusa.com/ I have no connection to this company but I do look for Made In USA products.

RE: Outdoor Television -- Good Idea or PITA?

PITA You may be trying to be respectful of your neighbors but I bet that most times the sound will carry and be an annoyance. Don't mine kids playing and the voices (normal sound level) of people sitting around the fire. Radios and TV's are always too loud. If you can figure out a way for everyone to use ear phones then it would be OK. Try to screen the bright light. Fully expect to someday read about a brawl or even worse, a shooting, in a campground because of a loud radio or TV. Portability and size (weight) of entertainment devices have changed camping and I don't think for the good. Just my opinion. Nick

RE: Ethanol's effect on milage

I have not seen a pump in a long time that didnot say that up to 10% ethanol was mixed in with gas. Is it still possible to find 100% gas?

RE: to tow or not to tow

Have a 24 foot Class C and thought that with this size I would never want to tow. This past September we took a 6000 mile trip out west. I decided to get a toad and I am glad that I did. With the toad we traveled an extra 1000 miles and went places that I would not have gone to in the motorhome. Although it is not cheap I am glad that I added the toad. I got a Chevy Tracker, 4WD, auto that I tow four down. Installed a ReadyBrute tow system and it worked perfectly. If I am able to continue to RV the cost per mile will drop and the roughly $2000 that I spent will be prorated.

RE: Looking for park near Chicago

Stay in Joliet. Drive about 12 miles to the next to last train station. You can park there for $1 per day. The last station is in Joliet but parking is not good and is expensive. Nick

ReadyBrute and downhills

I am pulling a Chevy Tracker 4WD with a small Class C. My hookup is with a ReadyBrute. Will be going out west and driving mountain roads. With this type braking system there will be no braking on downhill grades unless I hit my brakes. There will be the weight of the toad trying to increase my speed. Is there any advice on using this setup? Can I down shift to my lowest gear in the motorhome? Thanks Nick

RE: Chicago Field Museum by RV

We recently visited Chicago and went into city by train. Stayed at a casino campground in Joliet. There is another campground near by. Joliet is the end of the train line but it is better to drive eight miles to the next station. You can park all day for $1. In Chicago, if you are up to it , you can walk to the museum. If not, you can take a bus right to the museum (and aquarium) for $2.00. Easy to walk Chicago or take bus. This worked for us.

RE: Shiny RV with Red Max Pro (pics)

Will not be able to do motorhome in one day. If I wash, use Bartender Friend, clean with TSP and then apply the four coats of Red Max on one side, what happens to the finish if when I do another side the rinse from the BTF and TSP get on the first side? Thanks Nick

RE: RV or motel?

Can't disagree with any of the arguments presented. One other thing to remember is that at the end of the day, a night in a campground is much better for the kids than another night in front of the TV in a motel room. Meeting other kids to play with, the outdoor experience and hopefully a campfire will be memories that will stick with the kids. Forget costs and go with the TT. If concerned about pulling, rent a pop-up.

Tail lights

I presently use magnetic stop and turn signals on my dingy. I use an adapter that converts the connection on the back of my motorhome (class C) to a four wire that the magnetic lights use. The lights are mounted on top of the dingy. I would like to add another set of lights lower on the back of the dongy. My concern is powering the extra set of lights. If I tap into the wires of the magnetic lights, will the motorhome be able to handle the extra load? Will all of the lights still be bright? Thanks Nick
