RE: How to Decrease Interior Heat - Awnings or Tinted Windows?

Quick answer is awnings. If you have ever used an infrared thermometer on the inside of a tinted window and one that was not tinted, you wouldn't even consider the dark windows. They cut light but absorb and transmit heat to the interior.

RE: Vacuum for RV

Dirt Devil bag less upright . Very powerful, light weight, but small enough to store out of the way in the corner of the closet.

Have them show you how to manually override every system like electric awning, slides, jacks, spare tire removal, etc.

RE: drawers in Montana

Pinch metal piece closer together. They can also be replaced at Home Depot, look for drawer hardware. Take the metal piece with you.

RE: Camping World Mattress

Go with residential. A good Serta pillow top designed for a platform bed without box springs, for example, around $600. Any matress that has an RV connotation will be junk. Yea I know, now someone will chime in with sleep number beds etc. some of the $1500 solutions, which are great if you want to spend that much, just avoid RV type mattresses. You'd be better off with a straw tick.

RE: leaving fiver in Florida

You are storing it for the season so I suggest you get some reflective bubble wrap from Home Depot and cut it to fit your windows on the inside. It will do quite a bit to keep the heat down and the sun from fading your drapes and upholstery. Forget running the air, it is a waste of money and unnecessary wear on an appliance. Fridge empty and open, electric and gas off, tires covered and you should be good to go.

RE: oil change thingy for Honda 2000

I was just getting ready to change mine for the first time this week. Thought about a pump to pull the oil out, but these ideas are great. The aluminum tube is a great idea, but I think I'll try the PVC method first.

Coleman 10 x 10. Wally World. Set up is very easy and fast. Thing actually fits back in the storage bag when you are finished. Good luck keeping dogs contained.

RE: adding water heater on?off switch inside rv

Depends on how your unit was wired. The wire race for most everything going up to the ceiling ran through the false back of a cabinet in the galley, and that was directly over the water heater. I did mine in about an hour. Installed an "old work" box, switch, indicator light and was able to just pull the slack in the original wires to the switch up to the box and connect. It's a real convenience.

RE: 303 Protectant

I apply it frequently to all decals and plastic parts on my 5th wheel and tow vehicle including the Tuxedo tonneau cover, which the manufactures endorses it's use. It is great stuff. A 32 oz. spray will last you quite a while.

RE: Difference in backing up a fifth wheel

I have a F-250 extended cab short box and a Reese manual slider. I have never used the slider, but it's nice to know I can if I were to get into a ultra tight spot.
As far as backing up, it's different from a travel trailer or boat trailer, but I think much easier. I didn't practice, I just jumped in and went, but I've had plenty of tow experience on regular trailers. You'll get use to the different pivot point, how much to lead it and how quickly to follow through as the turn begins. Only other advice I could give is slow and easy when you are backing and it doesn't matter if it takes you ten tries to put it where you want it, you're not being graded. Every situation will be a little different. You'll do fine. Oh, one more thing, be mindful of your overhead clearance, ask me how I know that. Ouch, no, don't ask.

RE: SeaLand 110 porcelain potty

If you went to the trouble to tear it down. just replace the seal. If the ball is smooth, springs in good shape, and no external leaks, I would not do a complete rebuild at this time. I have rebuilt several of these Sealands, both in my boats and RV's.

RE: Range exhaust fan replacement

Here's what I did and you will be amazed at the difference. Noise from the kitchen exhaust was the biggest complaint, air movement not a big deciding factor.
If you have one of those stock anemic bathroom fans in the bathroom vent, look at it. Now go look at the six bladed noise maker in your range exhaust fan. The blades can be swapped faster than it takes you to read this. The shafts are the same size and they just pull off. The outcome is the range hood is nearly silent and the bathroom fan becomes the noisy one. Not such a bad thing in the bathroom.
Try it, if you don't like the outcome, swap it back.

RE: Water filter replacement

I have two filters. A string wound sediment filter at the water source for all water entering the RV. Changed twice a year. An under sink charcoal filter for drinking water. Changed 4 times a year.
