RE: Any Atv Mud Riders

I put a blue tarp down before loading the bikes, it catches most of the debris. Recently had to load the bikes after a snow storm and there was some mud and a good amount of snow on them. The tarp caught the mud and excess water just ran out the back of the TH, wasn't that much though. If they were really muddy I suppose I could hose them off with my outdoor hose, did that once at a campground where I had hookups.

RE: Memorial Day weekend

Have fun in Gorman, weather might be pretty good this weekend. Ride early, before the kooks get up!

RE: Help me avoid mistake!

I've never towed anything heavier than the one in my sig. but my 2500 Duramax handles it awesome, literally don't know its there most of the time. My GVW on the trailer is a shade over 13k.

RE: Terrain Limitations

I've heard the min. is 8" for offroad travel, 6" onroad. I've got just shy of 7" and when attempting a U turn on a desert hwy. it was about to touch so had to abandon the attempt and that was just swinging out onto the shoulder of the road.

in the words of my prom date, without such a recepticle, there isn't much use for that item.
I LOVE that quote, used it a couple time since I read it here.

RE: Terrain Limitations

you're better off with a TT if you're going to tow over really uneven terrain, like said, bed clearance is the issue. If you have a 4wd truck it is already pretty tall and raising the trailer for 8+ inches of bed clearance may get the trailer up too high.
Have you checked out anyone else that tows to where you go? That's what I'd do.

RE: It happened again!

The "safety catch" wouldn't help much, if any, the jaws are spring loaded and the bar sets into a notch so I don't think that would have mattered. I move mine all the time without a lock in the safety catch but I always (I think) swing down the safety catch. It's only 18 gauge or so bent plate so it's not very strong.

RE: Hot Water Heater Drain Plug

By the way, just to set the record straight:
There's no such thing as a "Hot Water Heater". If the water is hot, it doesn't need to be heated. :W
Very nice, never though of that. I will now refer to mine as my hot water maker!
Also, important safety tip: there is a world of difference between a hot-water-drain-plug and a butt-plug. Trust me: I'll never make that mistake again.
TMI!

RE: It happened again!

At least you had the landing gear down. My buddy has dropped two trailers on his bed, still has the bent bad and I think he's so mad at himself for doing it he's going to live with a mashed truck.

RE: It happened again!

great video. If you watch the end that's how I hook up too, the handle on the Reese slide out/in, not swing like that one. Once connected you look in from the rear and you can see the jaws wrapped around the pin, just like toward the end of the video.

RE: It happened again!

I always slide my truck under the hitch with the handle in, that way I can see the handle pop out/in. After that I check that the jaws are wrapped around the pin. Reese 16k slider bought with the trailer, second truck.
X2
To gauge the height I back up until the trailer hitch pad is about 1/2 way between the top and bottom of the hitch when it's "flopped" back, once the trailer is adjusted to this height, with the handle in but not locked by the "flapper" as the OP described I back under it, forcing the truck suspension down a bit. While backing up you can watch the handle go out/in and then it's always good to go.

Sounds like you covered all the bases well, let us know the results, should be a lot better than stock and at a fraction of the cost of Fox or similar.

Mammoth July 4th

We're looking at going to Brown's on the Owens for the 4th, not sure which days as I cannot do the whole week.
I know we knocked this around here a couple years ago and nothing came of it, probably my fault for not staying on it.
Just thought I'd throw it out here and see if anyone's interested. I'll know next week if we're going or coming on 7/4.

RE: For the mod minded folks.....kids RZR mods.

What about spring rates? Taking shocks off a quad for a SxS could give you too soft a spring I would guess, adjusting the preload does not offset too soft a spring
I guess testing will tell the tale Mav! Keep us posted, the adjustability is a great addition.

FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION

Support the Bartlett Amendment to Request a Report from the U.S. Marine Corps on the proposed expansion of the Marine Corps Ground Air Combat Center Twenty-Nine Palms to work with all stakeholders in the Johnson Valley Area
Bartlett Amendment 243 to HR 4310
Request for Marine Corps Land Acquisition Report
Currently, 189,000 acres of land under control of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), adjacent to the Marine Corps Ground Air Combat Center Twenty-Nine Palms, California, is designated by the 1980 California Desert Conservation Plan as an off-highway vehicle recreation area.
The Marine Corps wants to acquire 160,000 acres of this land, including the Johnson Valley area most heavily used for recreation. Currently, only 2% of the California Desert is open for motorized off-highway vehicle recreation use with half of the land in the Johnson Valley area.
The Recreational Community use of Johnson Valley brings in over $70 million per year to the local economy. The Recreational Community includes: Rock Hounds, Off-Highway Vehicles, Motorcycles, Bicycles, Campers, Hikers, Bird Watchers, Turtle Watchers, Model Airplane Groups and Commercial Movie Industry.
US Marine Corps has been working very closely with the Recreational Community and the Bureau of Land Management to find a compromise as acceptable to all parties. The Marines plan to use this land for Marine Air Ground Task Force live fire and maneuver training year round while reserving 40,000 acres for co-use by the recreational community 10 months out of the year.
The Marine Corps is in the process of completing an Environmental Impact Study on the proposed expansion of 29 Palms.
Stakeholders in this region are working towards resolution for the proposed expansion.
I am very supportive of Marine Corps training, but want to ensure all the stakeholders have the opportunity to review the Marine Corps Report and work towards a common solution to minimize the impact on Johnson Valley for all stakeholders:A description of the actual training requirements for the proposed range and where those training requirements are currently being met to support combat deployments.Identify the impact on the off-road vehicle recreational users of the land, the economic impact on the local economy, the recreational industry and other stakeholders
Identify any concerns with the Bureau of Land Management in their assessments of the impact on other users
Identify the impact on the State of California’s Desert Conservation plan regarding allocation of the Off-Highway Vehicle Recreation Areas Potential to use the same land without transfer, but under specific permits for use by the BLM
Any potential on other BLM lands near the Marine Corps Ground Combat Center Twenty-nine Palms or other locations in the geographic region. This amendment also provides a Secretary of Defense Waiver of the Report in the event of national security need.
I just emailed and called both senator's offices, it took 5 minutes.
1. go to clicky and enter your zip code, will get an email contact form, cut/paste the above info. I posted and put it in an email, push send. DONE.
2. go back to the previous screen under the senator's name is the contact info. call the 202 number in D.C. and tell the staffer you wish to urge the senator to support this amendment, takes 2 minutes.
