RE: Parallel wire two 12 volt Batteries

@dupreet, I believe you misread the OP.
OP, You are right, connect the house wiring positive cable to the positive post of one battery and the house negative cable to the negative cable of the other battery. Then run two short jumpers, one between the two batteries positive posts and the second between the two batteries negative posts. This will ensure that the batteries are charged equally and discharge equally.
The arrangement of three batteries as suggested above will result in the battery connected to the house terminals suffering a premature death, while the battery to the far left get's hardly used at all.
The short jumpers can be bought from Lowes or Home Depot. Either buy a couple feet of the biggest copper wire you can find, or if the battery post locations make if feasible, you can buy some copper tubing, hammer it flat to make a bar, and drill a hole in it to screw onto your lugs. The bigger the copper the better. Just do make both jumpers as close to identical as you can.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I'm glad the dog and the truck are safe, but it must be hard with everything else gone.

RE: Dang it!!!! Lost my awning yesterday!!

Hey, Bob, you can't go RVing without a good awning: it's the law. You know that, right? That's why you HAVE to trade up to the Tango. The current RV is RUINED. Surely you've 'splained that to the DW, right? Right??? I mean, GOD sent you the message, dude. Surely, surely you're not gonna ignore GOD, are you?

RE: old cats and rabies shots-

I can't claim any expertise on the risks of the rabies shot causing illness. I can point out that the handful of cats we've had over the decades have always gotten rabies shots, and I don't recall a single one of them suffering any adverse effects, other than the loss of dignity involved with the trip to the vet.
But I will point out that should that cat catch rabies, a horrible death, and very likely rounds of rabies treatments for you and your family would be much, much worse.

RE: Money Exchange

On our international travel, we've always just stopped at any convenient ATM and made a withdrawal in the coin of the realm, whatever that was. Thus no need to drag around large sums (and risk getting hit over the head). Put it on your debit card, put it on your credit card as a cash advance, either way works just fine, although the latter is probably safer.

RE: Desktop Keyboard & Coffee don't mix

Hey, she's lucky it didn't short out and do real damage. I guess with all the newer keyboards being membrane types, that is less likely, still, spills are bad juju.

RE: Another lesson learned the hard way

Thanks for the tip, @harleyman1340. I guess there are indeed times to examine closely that proverbial gift horse's mouth. The varmint who simply walked/drove off and left his POS hose laying there for the next sucker to clean up deserves a special place in a certain hot spot. Sorry you found his rubble.

RE: Center Point eliminate empty fridge?

I know nothing about that particular trailer, but I kinda think @WeBeFulltimers might just be onto something. It should be obvious that the rear of any trailer is going to experience all bumps and curves with forces magnified because it is BEHIND the trailer wheels. I'd assume the 'frig and the cupboards have doors with latches, and if they are getting hit hard enough, they are going to spring open, no matter how strong those latches are. Does your bud have a heavy foot? Might be worth a test to see if he pretended there was an egg between the pedal and his foot, if that would make a difference. Or maybe get somebody else to drive it once. Just as an experiment.
If it turns out that that is the problem, he can console himself that continued forces that high were going to cause the trailer itself to crumble eventually, too. And nothing ruins a camping trip like arriving at your site and finding the trailer a pile of rubble.

I'm told there is a UV inhibitor that should be smeared on the roof a couple times a year. Use a sponge floor mop.

RE: UPS for wall warts

That does indeed appear to be a UPS, folks.
Contrary to popular opinion, computers typically do NOT need a pure sine wave inverter, as they (also typically) use switched power supplies, not transformer based ones. Thus every UPS I've ever seen (this one does not give specs, but it, too, most likely) is actually a square wave inverter.
SOME electrical devices do just fine on square wave power: aforementioned computers, light bulbs, for example. SOME electrical devices do not, and require sine wave power: evidently the OP's electric blanket is one.
The simple fact that it started smoking is your clue. It is possible, indeed likely, that it was damaged. In the event it wasn't, the lesson is clear: you can't use that device to keep your wife warm at night.
The question you asked about your "standard wall warts" is a good one, but the answer isn't simple. It depends on the device. Some will be fine. Others will not.
I note that price on that one is $400. That is mighty expensive for a UPS of only 400 watt capacity. I suggest using it for your computer, as it was clearly intended.

RE: Full hookup at home

It is great having a full hookup at home, as well as being able to keep/store your rig at home. That's part of the consequences of buying acreage with no restrictions put on by your neighbors. We're in an agricultural area by zoning ordinance, so about the only thing we can't do is build a factory or an apartment building. No chance of either, actually.

RE: Ticks!

Here in central Virginia, ticks are always a problem. They are indeed especially plentiful this year, due no doubt to the mild winter. Officially, there are three species, but I gotta tell you, the ones I especially hate are the tiniest things. They look like a little black dot, and because they are so small, it is easy not to feel them crawling around, and hard to get a grip on 'em with tweezers "up near the head," the head being so very tiny.
The good part is that you are very unlikely to contract a tick-bourne illness if you catch them within a half day of their biting you. (They used to say 48 hours, but that has changed. Now they say 8 hours is perfectly safe, 12 hours is pretty unlikely.) Anyway, you need to inspect yourself carefully 2 or 3 times a day, and it wouldn't hurt at all to check the kids and your spouse while you are at it. An expert on the radio recently said you could get a thousand tick bites and never have a problem, but you could also get just one and wind up with 5 different diseases.

RE: Do i need a 12v battery to tow my trailer to the campground?

As others have noted, it is not legal to tow that trailer anywhere without that battery being present and functional. And you know how the Universe treats folks who stick their necks out: sure as God made the little green apples, and even with 50 years of incident-free towing under your belt, that would be the one time when you'd be rolling down the road, only to be passed by the trailer, which would then cause a horrible wreck, killing several innocents, and sending you away for the rest of your life while bankrupting everyone you know to pay the fines and the wrongful death claims.
So do the right thing, take the battery out, go buy a new one, and install it before moving the trailer.

RE: Help --- Looking for a bottle jack

I don't scrimp when buying jacks.
+10
too small a jack is an horrible accident looking for a place to happen. So 16,000 lbs divided by 5 (4 wheels and tongue) is 3,200 lbs. a 2 ton jack will theoretically lift one wheel only, but between you and me, that's too close for my comfort. I'd get a bigger one, just to be safe. Drop that wheel on your foot, it'll ruin your whole day.

RE: Refrigerator not work on AC power.

It is my understanding that the nature of absorption refrigeration units that if they are not level, they clog themselves up in such a way that the damage is often permanent. For that reason, I would not try to cool one down before a trip unless I was able to get it level, regardless of whether I was using AC or gas.

RE: Grand Canyon whats the camping situation

What @harold1946 said. Trailer Village (the only RV campground on the South Rim) books up completely fairly early. North Rim not so much, still, GC is VERY popular, and your odds are slim.
There is a campground in Tusayan, just a mile or so south of the entrance to the Park at the South Rim that is likely to have sites available.
Best of luck.
