RE: Interesting

A very interesting video....if you look at the artifacts removed from Inca ruins, the chihuahua looked like Bella...not the very short legged, short snout and over rounded headed chihuahua of today that the Kennel club calls " bred to standard "
Some of the artifacts depict very fat chihuahuas as the Incas did use them as a food source :E

RE: Bella has pneumonia...

Thanks everyone...she is a fighter so I am very optimistic about a full recovery...problem is she is still regurging and coughing at times and you worry about her aspirating again !! Her weight is down to under 4lbs so she doesn't have any fatty tissue to carry her thru a rough period....

Bella has pneumonia...

she started to have a poor appetite last Friday...was very nauseated...we took her into the ER clinic on Sunday and they gave her a cerenia inj and some tabs to start the next day if she remained nauseated....Monday morning she only took a couple of 1/2 tsps of her puree so I gave her the cerenia by mouth...the next morning she aspirated and required her ventolin nebulizer treatments and coupage and then we left for the DVMs office..its 1hr 15min drive ...xrays showed pneumonia so she is one Baytril and amoxicillin for 4 weeks and then the xrays will be repeated...she also started on b12 injections to try and tweek her appetite....aspiration pneumonia is what we ME parents dread the worst....she is such a little girl to have to deal with all this...

RE: June 1st 2012 is "Save Calvin's Tooth Day"! p.5

Lance ...I am so sorry Harlee is having these issues...a worry for you for sure...
just a suggestion...and I am not a DVM..but Sulcrate should be given 1 hour before eating or 2 hours after....it binds to protein ( and that is what coats the surface of lesions etc ) and helps soothe/heal these areas...like a bandaid...
another suggestion for when the appetite is off is mashed potatoes and yams...both good sources of carbs and most dogs love them....pumpkin ( real not pumpkin pie mix ) is another good appetite enhancer....
hugs to Harlee and Calvin

RE: Quiet Campground for July 4th - Dog fearful of fireworks

I have used Rescue Remedy with good success with Bella...she is deathly afraid of fireworks....
Zari got a hold of the container when she was a pup...chewed thru it...she must have swallowed some as it was the first time she was ever mellow as a pup :E

RE: Easy-to-digest calories??

honey is fine for dogs...it is one thing that can be given with sulcrate without causing the sulcrate to lose its ability to coat ulcers in the esophagus ...also very good to increase calories ....64 cal per tablespoon :)

RE: Easy-to-digest calories??

with megaesophagus dogs we use coconut milk as it is high in caloric value but easily digested.....coconut water is also good as it has lots of electrolytes if needed ...

RE: new dog in town

Thanks for taking in a rescue...it will take time but before too long he will realize that love doesn't hurt !
I also was turned down by a rescue group...we had 8 acres of land...a large home...a fenced yard...have always had dogs...some big, some small...all died of old age or death was disease related ....but we were deemed unacceptable...since then I have taken in 3 special needs chihuahuas ( private adoptions ) and they are living the life of riley ( in my humble opinion )

RE: Chewey Loving the Trailer Life

Thats a beautiful shot of Chewy....That park looks wonderful with the lakes and mountains...can't blame Chewy for loving a trip there....
My 3 chihuahuas like going also...but I don't think they are quite as enthusiastic as Chewy...

I am so sorry...but going that way, running around , playing sounds like the best way to go...hard on the owners, but good for the dog....

RE: Happy Easter from the wees

I know it's probably not the most PC thing to do ......they do put up a lot from me...but...as I tell them, their holiday pictures bring a lot of joy to my clients that are shut-ins....and thankfully being little ones, they can't hurt me :B

a weekend of being beachbums....

The weather was so nice so we decided to take the wees and go to the beach....they had a great time..we still only have the " B " but are thinking of putting a TT at Providence Bay ....we love the area and its just a couple of hours drive from home....so very doable even when one of us is working and the other is off...and with Bellas condition, long term travel is not an option...we don't want to be more than a few hours from her DVM...
this is at the North Chanel...the wees are sitting at a rocky outcrop....just a few feet away was the sand....
http://i1090.photobucket.com/albums/i362/nabelia/065.jpg
and this is my fav spot...Providence Bay...Lake Huron ( of course each of the girls are looking in an opposite direction )

And yes...those are retractable leads ....:o
