RE: Light-Proofing Bedroom

I have no clue why it's got a vent in the bedroom. Might be nice when we go do our dry camping at the race later this year.
But thanks for the ideas everyone. I'll talk about it them with my wife and figure out what we'll do from there.

RE: Light-Proofing Bedroom

Morning Everyone,
I tried to post some more details last night, but couldn't get back on to RV.net. I know I left out a lot of details. Sorry bout that.
But thanks for all the tips. Wife has already nixed the idea of changing the curtains. She doesn't want the bedroom curtains to be different. And those are only 1/4 panel curtains. They don't run all the way across the window. So what I might try a little later is see if I have enough room to put a curtain behind there.
The blinds on these windows have a translucent panel and darker panel. I thought about maybe glueing some fabric to the back of the darker panel, but kinda afraid to take these things apart.
I have MaxAir vent covers over all the vents. I forgot all about painting the inside of those. I'll have to find that thread in a minute and look over it again.
Sooperduty, where'd you find that privacy curtain? I think I'd like that better than the curtain any day. **Never mind, found it. Amazing when you look for something a different way you find it**
Wife says door window is textured. So I was wondering about VHT Night Shades. It's a spray tint for car lens. Supposed to let light in one way. I might have to see how that'll work out.
But thanks again for all the help.

Light-Proofing Bedroom

Hi Everyone,
We spent our first weekend in the new camper last weekend, and I only have two complaints really. The easy one to ***** about and fix later is storage. There's not much outside storage, so I figure I'll have to setup some kind of organized storage there. Same with the inside.
But the major complaint is how much light is let into the bedroom. Wife and I are late sleepers, but I'm also light sensitive sleeper. I might as well have been sleeping under the awning with all that light.
This is a front bedroom trailer. I have two full sized windows on the sides, a pop up vent on the ceiling, and a door in the bedroom. On top of all that, the only thing that seperates the bedroom from the rest of the trailer is a curtain.
So here's my questions. What have others done to light proof their RV's? I don't want a redneck solution, so I'd like to limit the use of velcro, duct tape, and tin foil. :)
CW has an option of something that looks like a foam pillow for $10. Any comments from actual users? How about tinted windows?
Thanks,
Timothy

RE: Trailer Weights

Yeah, here's another natural law. 17001 pounds cargo on 7000 pounds of axles. Wonder how he did it. :)
**PS - that's my bad attempt at humor. Don't take me seriously. **

RE: This has always perplexed me...

I'm not a gone before the crack of dawn guy, but I'm usually out around noon. By then, I've done all I want to do and don't want to get sweaty or dirty for the ride home. I also take my time traveling as I've got two dogs who don't like being cramped up.
Also, Sunday is usually Nascar. While I have DVR, I HATE waiting too long to see the race. Once I know who the winner is, the race is much much duller. So Sunday night is usually watching the race.

RE: 2012 F150 with sway control

I have a 2010 and until very recently, was using the EZLift hitch, which did not have integral sway control. I think there was only once or twice the truck detected a sway condition and acted. My truck dinged and posted a message about it.
But I'll 2nd (or 3rd, 4th, whatever) Skip said. The truck will not do anything till a sway is detected. If using something other than Equalizer or Reese, you should still use anti sway bars to reduce the sway from even happening.

RE: Trailer Weights

Wow, 100 lbs of meat and eggs! I thought I was a big meat eater. I think the beer estimate is a little light though ;).
Funny, I thought the exact same thing. :)

RE: New (to me) Trailer

I thought a 7lb tank was the same thing as a 20 gallon? Likely wrong on my part. Not a lot of sleep lately. It's the tank next size up from a normal grill tank.

RE: New (to me) Trailer

2 7lb propane tanks and battery shoved under that cover on the trailer. Don't know how they did it, but they did it.
And actually, trailer came with knives and plates and silverware and glass tupperware. Sales people told me this trailer was used by an oilfield guy up North for a job, but upgraded to something else.

New (to me) Trailer

Hi Everyone,
My turn to brag for a moment. :) We lost our trailer three weeks ago to the flooding here in central Louisiana. I saw the aftermath, water line three inches up the wall on the inside. Complete total.
Not all bad news though. I made a few dollars on it since I picked it up from an auction. So we bought a new trailer.
It's a 2007 Grand Surveyor GS280. We had three trailers in mind, and our first and third choice had already sold before we even got a second look two days later. But this is still a nice camper and had almost everything I was looking for. While I was at it, I upgraded my hitch from an EZLift to an Equalizer.
Between the new trailer (SO much lighter both in tongue and trailer weight than the last one) and the new hitch, it's like I'm towing nothing. Should be a lot less stressful driving.
So anyways, my new trailer. No shots with it hooked to the truck yet, but next time I'm home, we're heading to the Folk Festival in Arkansas and camper is going with us. And btw, wife LOVES it.

RE: Trailers Suggestion

Ok, ok, ok. Chill out you two.
Lynnmor, I've taken note of your concerns. Strictly my opinion, but a lot of what you listed is minor stuff that would irritate someone who wants the quality they pay for and you fixed it. However, there are a few things on there that will need to be considered as "factory" issues. I'm likely going back tomorrow to do a technical check out all three campers. Then go back with wife when she gets off work to see the prettier aspects.

RE: Trailers Suggestion

Lynnmore, I've seen the frame. I'm familiar with the lattice cross beams. I find them to be very strong so long as the lattice keeps it's integrity.
However, what else is on your list?

Trailers Suggestion

Hi Everyone,
Ya'll might remember my trailer was flooded. Insurance company has totaled the trailer and paid out already. Wife and I have visited three dealerships and checked out a handful of campers.
We've come to like three campers. I have name recognition with all three and all three are lighter than my Dutchmen according to the specs and contain features we like. All three appear to be in good shape and almost no modifications. Of course, I haven't done the detailed inspection yet.
Here's the three I'm looking at.
2007 Grand Surveyor GS280
2010 KZ Spree 261RKS
2010 Keystone Hideout 27SLE
Any comments or thoughts on these?
Thanks,
Tim

RE: Louisiana Floods

Just talked to insurance claim person. He asked how high was the water. I said about 3 inches up the side.
His response? "Oh, that's bad." I asked is that a very expensive rebuild bad or a totaled bad. He said likely totaled.
Asked when they could pick it up to get it to their inspection yard and wife still can't get out, so no way ya'll are getting in. He's gonna call back Monday.
Time to go camper hunting again.

Still have power, hasn't lost it yet as of last night. She tripped those two breakers yesterday. Couldn't get to the batteries though to kill them.

Louisiana Floods

In case you didn't know, a few towns north of Lafayette, LA have flooded due to intense rain. Carencro recorded 15" of rain in less than 48 hours.
My brothers house had 9" of water in it yesterday. Luckily, my dad and brother were able to get my sis in law and niece out safely.
My house isn't far from theirs, and I lost most of my yard (2 acres) yesterday.Still had room for the fuzzies to go potty though. I work offshore, but my wife is home taking pictures. My home became a certified island. The house is supposed to be above all major flood levels and I'm glad for that.
This morning, wife woke up to this.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz258/lawrencetj/100_0277_resize.jpg
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz258/lawrencetj/100_0275_resize.jpg
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz258/lawrencetj/100_0280_resize.jpg
This gives you an idea of what's happened over here. Pool is 48" tall and everything but the filter is underwater. That's an F150 4WD and it's a tall truck. Water up to the axles there. :(
Luckily, so far, my wife and four fuzzies are ok. Stranded but with power and water for now. She's got my truck, so once the waters go down, she can get out.
However, my question is this. What do you think are my chances the camper is ok? The water has rose a little bit more since the picture and there's about an inch of tire left. Think the flooring is wet? Or might I get lucky?
THanks,
Tim

RE: Cool Mods

Just how DO we post pictures to this forum?
Go to www.photobucket.com. This is where you will store your pictures.
Create an account.
Use the online directions to upload your pictures.
Once your pictures are uploaded, if you hover over a picture you want to share, it will pop up a box with four HTML code options. I usually pick the IMG option. Click there and it will say copied.
Come back to the forum. Create a message in whatever fashion (reply, new thead etc...), right click in the message box, and click paste.
Type what you want, then click post message. If you did it right, then you'll see your picture in the thread.

RE: Dog & Going Potty Issues

My other dog goes potty without a problem. And it's grass grass, not straw or hay type grass. I'll be home in a couple days and start the leash deal. See how it works. :)
