RE: newbie questions...best TC style for highway?

Pop ups are alot like sleeping in a tent. You will be able to hear EVERYTHING that is going on around you. If backcountry camping away from others is the goal, they are OK but in any kind of developed camp site, forget it. For those who value a good night's sleep, a small hard side will be a better choice. Or get alot of sleeping pills before you go.

RE: Any ideas how to make foldable stairs for a lifted truck?

I ordered folding steps from Hijacker a couple of years ago and it works ok. My camper is on a standard 08 F250 Crew 4X4 and the door is around 40" from the ground. Mine has 4 steps but I recall they make them with more. Your dog probably couldn't do these. Even at my lower height than yours, a fall of this distance could be serious! What ever you end up with, I suggest you get one of those extended grab bars that fold back against the camper. On dark rainy or snowy nights you'll will be glad you did.

Air conditioner install

I am considering installing an air conditioner in my small slide in camper. Rather than taking out my Fantastic fan for a roof install, I was wondering about installing a small split air conditioner through the back wall. This would seem to have the advantage of making only small holes through the skin of the camper. Any one out there know anything about doing a split air conditioner install on an RV? Has it been done? If so pros/cons.
