RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

So you left us??!! I never even got to meet you before you left the mountain!! :-( Oh well. Now you can have a much shorter drive to camp when I come down! :) All the best to you! Dak Situations and opportunities, I still get up on the mountain from time to time.

First "Tow" Trip Report

We just got back from our anual trip to the International Harvester Western Regionals show, in the TC with the Scout in tow. The beginning of the week was a flurry of work on the Scout to get it ready to tow without an extra set of lights for towing and the making of the pigtail for the new Torklift Supertruss 32" extension and Superhitch that was installed a couple of weeks ago. http://s181.photobucket.com/albums/x121/mountainkowboy/Photo04191459.jpg width=555 We left Thursday afternoon for Barstow for a weekend of fun and wheeling. The trip out was uneventful with Red really not caring about the load on her. The desert was nice and warm with no wind and we ended up at our favorite Del Taco in Barstow for diner before we pulled into camp. The event was a blast as always. Friday it hit 99 but cooled off nicely that night. Saturday hit 103 and the pool was at just the right temp to beat the heat. The S&S preformed flawlessly in the heat with the AC keeping the interior in the 70's in the heat, and the fridge kept everything frozen and cold without the benifit of any shade. The ride home yesterday was a typical Interstate 15 run......stop and go most of the time, hot, and a stiff headwind in the desert. I used a whole tank of gas fighting the headwind and climbing the mountain to get home. Today I will finish the install of the wiring for the electric jacks and unload the S&S and try to find the leak in the roof that we found 2 weeks ago in the torid rainstorm. :)

RE: tips on loading a tc...found this

Chuck, Are those white dowels you attach to the side of your camper, or?... If they are true and straight this seems like a great idea! Dak I have 1/2" conduit mounted to the side at the bottom of the camper that the 7/16 dowels slide into. I just use them to make sure that the TC is lined up straight and plumb when first backing under. Then I slide them back into the conduit.

RE: Coldest winter in a Century coming? Store it or head south?

We had more snow in March/April than the whole winter. Good thing about late season snow is that it melts fast!

RE: Weekend Outing and Failures...LOL

whats a trip without something going wrong? sounds like it was a great test to check for leaks. hopefully its an easy fix. heck, it should be easy after all the work you have done to that thing. I'll bet its some cracked caulk around the vent from the wierd winds we got. 2 spots over, the wind ripped 6" branches off the tree and almost took out the 5er that was there.

RE: Weekend Outing and Failures...LOL

Pretty normal.......except for the microburst, that was a first. We are camping this weekend too, will fix the waterpump issue when we get back. We will be in Barstow.....or Calico is closer to the mark. KOA by the ghost town for IH Western Regionals :)

Weekend Outing and Failures...LOL

As we stated, we left Thursday for a long weekend outing with friends. Uneventful trip and setup, filled the water tank before we left. We ran off the water tank at first, till we hear BRRRRRR, a few minutes later...BRRRRRRR, what the heck? Get the tools out, pull the cover off the watertank/waterpump locker. HOLY CRAP!!!!! the inside of the locker is soaked, and I notice a steady drip coming from the nose of the pump at the preasure shut off valve. Trip to home depot and make a plug for the pump to system line and a cap for the pump output. We were in a park so we had city water to use......crisis averted......then the horrid rain/wind storm came. When it first hit we were out running around doing some shopping for the camper. Just regular rain nothing special. we stopped by Taco Bell to get some lunch, it was raining pretty hard, a little lull and we ran for the door.......thats when it got interesting. As soon as we got inside the door a microburst hit, took everything we had to hold the door closed. Trees were getting ripped apart and thrown in every direction, at that moment I remembered that the awning was out on the TC.....not good. The campground was a few miles away, so maybe it will be ok. Driving back to the CG my wife kept noticing alot of trees torn up or down. Pull in the CG and things dont look to bad, a little debris, but not bad. Get back to our spot and the TC and truck are just fine. I have to chase a leak from the roof that gets into the closet, I'm thinkin the tank vent that runs up the back corner, we found that this morning while breaking down to leave for home. All in all a fun trip with friends, with a few mishaps, and I'm not gunna be drink Margaritas anytime soon......:E
