RE: Family Camping Pictures

Rock Cut State Park this last weekend. Our youngest DD had a soccer tournament, so we camped near the field for the weekend. Can't wait to go back for just camping - more relaxing then hustling back and forth to games. Our girls love to cook marshmallows on "real" sticks they've found somewhere. Say they taste better that way! (I prefer mine without the taste of bark, on a metal roasting stick) http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad44/Live2Camp/Rock%20Cut%20State%20Park%2004-2012/DSC_5358.jpg width=640 http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad44/Live2Camp/Rock%20Cut%20State%20Park%2004-2012/DSC_5362.jpg width=640 http://i920.photobucket.com/albums/ad44/Live2Camp/Rock%20Cut%20State%20Park%2004-2012/DSC_5359.jpg width=640 How CUTE! RE: Your Favorite Boondocking Pics

Sure thing Mona Take 285 to Jefferson. Hang a left on Tarryall Rd (CR 77)for 8 miles past the ranches and rock formations. Hang another left at Rock Creek RD ( County Rd 39). The Pike Nat Forest starts in about 2 miles. We we around 3-4 miles in when we found this spot. There were many before and after. The main road is a bit rough at the beginning but good after that. I only traveled the side roads to the point that I knew I wouldn't take our 25ft TT farther, so you should find even more with a pop up. I don't know the exact miles but it didn't take us 2 hours to get home including the rush hour traffic thru Denver. ( we live near DIA) I understand that there are boondocking areas around Red Feathers and Lake John ( Walden) that would be closer to Fort Collins. hope this Helps JinD Thanks JinD! I will save these directions for future use. As for Red Feathers...yeah we have boondocked there many times and have enjoyed it! bakerkids, YEP...that is how Memorial Day and Labor Day is here in ole- Colorado---still pretty chilly during the day and nights. Gotta wear those jackets all the time in early and late summer camp-outs. And HAVE TO HAVE a good jacket for sure to sit around the campfire at nights in the mountains! Glad you enjoyed the photos. :B

RE: Your Favorite Boondocking Pics

OK---been awhile since I posted some of our latest boondocking photos. We went camping in June below...located up near Red Feathers Lake, CO. NO one around....loooved our peaceful time here! Thats a great area too. I've never camped right around Red Feather, but I've driven/explored the area quite a bit. I have camped way out on the west end of Dead Man Road which goes between Red Feather and CR 103 (Laramie River Road)... lots of great spots out that way too. We're headed up again on Friday and will be up through the following week -- way excited! :-) nebmike, Along Deadman's Road...that is the area we camp in also (in our photos above). Love it there....you really can get deep into the forest (with a tent or PUP) so far away from EVERYONE! Loooooooooove it there! Click the links below to see more of photo of when we have camped in that area over the few past years: http://family.webshots.com/album/559649894mePImT http://travel.webshots.com/album/561598022GAYRSY http://good-times.webshots.com/album/566892721yjmUMD http://good-times.webshots.com/album/566906494ddvoRU Enjoy!

RE: Your Favorite Boondocking Pics

Below is another boonndock spot we camped out this summer....also located near Red Feathers Lakes, Co. As you can see, some of this area has been infested with the Pine Beetles. Sure wish we could kill those beasts before they kill all our beautiful Pine trees! http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e365/monakayk/IMG_1619.jpg http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e365/monakayk/IMG_1641.jpg http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e365/monakayk/IMG_1642.jpg

RE: Your Favorite Boondocking Pics

nebmike, Looks like the CO we live in during the winter in all those 'snow' photos....BRRRRRR!:E BTW....where did you camp in the above photo....looks great! Thanks for sharing. Hwy 14 west of Fort Collins is Poudre Canyon... at mm71 is Chambers Lake. County Road 103 (also known as Laramie River Road) goes north from there, and that camp site is 3/10th of a mile past mm9. There are several points along Laramie River Road that are good for boondocking -- tent or small camper (like pop-up size) camping can be had from mm1 thru mm3, then from about mm4.5 to mm9.5 there are several places you can get bigger rigs into (my 5'er is 35'). Not organized campgrounds, just places where people have worn trails back into the trees. Elevation along there is around 8,500ft give or take. LOT's of moose in the area. A drive along that road around dusk will pretty much guarantee you'll see at least one, if not several. Its not uncommon at all to have them right in your campsite -- so be on the lookout. There are also black bears in the area, but its remote enough that they rarely encounter or bother people. Be aware though, the closest diesel fuel is at least a 1 hour drive (either into Red Feather or west into Walden), so anybody venturing into this area should fill up when leaving Fort Collins if coming from the east or in Walden if coming from the west. Gasoline, propane and groceries are available at a couple spots near Rustic which is approximately mm90(ish) on Hwy 14, along with a couple more small shops that have limited groceries and supplies (but no gas) a little farther up the canyon near mm78 or so. There is water available (to fill water jugs) at the Chambers Lake campground which is just off of Hwy 14 at mm71, as well as at the Tunnel campground (which is the only organized campground along Laramie River road -- at approx mm6). The closest dump station (that I'm aware of) is at the Ranger Lakes Campground which is on over the west side of Cameron Pass along Hwy 14 at (I'm just guessing) approx mm60. Also, once you leave Fort Collins, there is no cell phone signal anywhere along Hwy 14 until you get clear over the pass to around mm58 or so, then there is spotty service on into Walden. If you go into Red Feather (which is north of Rustic), there is good cell service there (along with groceries, hardware, gasoline, diesel and propane... and an ice cream shop!). The only emergency call box anywhere near Chambers Lake or the camping areas I described above is on Hwy 14 at mm78 -- so if you have an emergency, you're about a 20-25 minute drive to call for help. Come to think of it... all of those pictures (except the beach pic) were taken at various spots along / off of Laramie River Road. It seems to be where we camp most often. Have a great weekend everybody! Mike Mike, Thanks for the detail directions. DH and I have been up driving around Chambers Lake...so I am very familiar with that area. That area really is beautiful! BTW---do you get much noise from the road at these boondock campsites? They look like they are pretty deep into the forest area.

RE: share your "vintage" RV pictures MAX SIZE 640 x 480

catdaddyxx, Wow...that is a cool PUP. So the stove & counter looks like it slids out from the inside? How does that work? Very nice restoration. Yeah, it has a slide out galley. It's pretty heavy, but you pull it out and a leg snaps down for support. On the inside it rolls on big ball bearings. Electric and water hookup is underneath the galley. and a quick disconect for the stove. I think it may have originaly come with an ice box instead of a sink. No tanks of course so I have an old boat gas can that I use as a grey water tank. catdaddyxx, Well, that is totally waaaaay coooool! So I gather you can also use the stove and sink inside the PUP also? Thanks for the explaination of how it works. I have never seen a camper with that feature before!:B
