RE: goodyear tires

GY customer service told me the problem was alignment. Had an alignment and nothing was wrong. Then the rep got out his tire problem book. Went to dump truck tag axle and told me it was a chassis problem. I pointed out that my Dynasty was not a dump truck. Then he told me the problem was Monaco's fault. I drove to the Michelin dealer and no more rivering! Every person who has had the famous G670 rivering solves the problem by switching brands including using: Toyo, hancook, Bridgestone and more. Once they change the problem is gone. End of story! For some reason the rivering is rare on the 19.5 size.

RE: Brake Inspection Areas prior to grades?

They are supposed to do a complete air brake check. Tractor service brakes, trailer service brakes, tractor spring brakes. Compressor load and unload test, low pressure warning devices and more. If a trucker has to stop to build up air he has some serious problems. The drums and shoes should have been checked in the morning when he did a complete pre trip and air brake test. If the truck brakes have been performing well they often will just do the tug test. Some do almost nothing!

RE: goodyear tires

GY has zero customer suypport and still produce the worst RV tire ever made. There are plenty of good choices. Better tires and less $$. Flaming?? I don't think so. Google the definition of flaming.

RE: FM2/3 holders - is FMM also required . . .

Every INM office intreprets the rules differently. Our FM3's expire in November. We are in a situation that may prevent us from returning to Mexico until January. The person in charge of our INM office told me to not worry. Just get an FMM when we return and show it when we apply to renew in January?????

RE: Canadian RV'er murdered in Mexico (a lesson in sarcasm)

"Many visitors to Mexico are Mexican-American immigrants and far more likely to be involved with the wrong sort of people there, or their families are. So you really have to eliminate most Hispanic victims from the stats as well."
How can that statement be verified? Where did you get that information? Why are you stereotyping Mexican Americans? Why would anyone think that the families of Mexican Americans are involved in drugs? I am amazed that no one else noticed this statement. There are many on this site that jump at anyone who makes a derogatory statement about Mexico the country but where are these people when someone makes a statement such as this about Mexicans? There is not one word of truth or fact in that statement. Mexican Americans ( Paisanos) are mostly middle class Americans who return to visit their families in friends in Mexico. They are more like typical suburbanites who have found the American dream. They drive nice SUV,s and bring all kinds of goods to help their families. To assume they or their families are involved with drugs is ludicrous. And to make that unverified statement in a thread about stasitics just boggles the mind!!!!! I will be waiting to read the links that will verify your statement.

RE: Nogales, NEW Lanes!

According to a May 1 report there is now a lane for RV'rs @ Nogales. You approach in lane 1 and they will open lane 0. This is the lane used by the buses. I cannot verify this info.

RE: Cool old Wanderlodge spotted

bigdog: Your school bus experienece does not relate to a Wanderlodge. Most BB's are built on a custom chassis made bt BB. It is not a Freightliner nor is it a school bus conversion.

It will be interesting to see how they will handle RV's? At one time there was talk of a special lane.

RE: Breakdown X 2...

Jim: Only you know the condition of the rest of the unit. I would guess that the previous owner did little or no maintenance. If it were me I would cry in my beer and sell the unit. Those low HP 5.9's were not the best powerplant for a MH. It's one of those pay me now or pay me later moments. Your unit MIGHT be a bottomless money pit. Of course it is easy for me to give you advice as it is not my$$$. Ultimately you are the one who has to weigh the options. Sorry to hear about your difficulties.

RE: Vehicle deposit info

There is no deposit requires for MH's or other RV's with the 10 year permit. A truck camper does not require any special permit. BUT it might go on the truck papers. The truck will get a 6 month permit and require a deposit. That would make sense as Adunana would want to know that the camper has not been sold in Mexico. But as we all know every crossing is different!

RE: Any 413 Dodge fans ?

A B van is not a MH. Reading some of the very old archives ( 07) you had a similar difference of opinion with a number of poters on a similar subject re 440's. Are you sure that the 60's did not numb your memory! Our 440 vapour locked every summer. The exhaust manifolds got so hot it melted the valve cover gaskets and 2 of the plug wires on the passenger side. This was such a huge problem that some outfit came up with spark plug wires with a ceramic end. There was a fellow from California that did RV motor mods. For awhile he wrote the tech column in either Trailer Life or Motorhome life. I already had headers, electric fuel pump, rerouted the fuel lnes and replaced them with steel lines, changed the viscous fan to one from a 454( comes on sooner) as well as other minor mods. Still in 90 degree plus weather it would vapour lock. I used the old flathead trick and kept a jug of water handy. When it vapour locked I simply dumped the water on the fuel pump! The tech writer suggested that I change the exhaust and tailpipes to 3". He also told me to install a particular school bus muffler ( duals) Was actually quite easy. Voila no more vapour lock even on the Raton Pass in 95 degree heat! Others had the same problem. I also ended up changing my heads as the valves were recessed. Started using an additive to make up for the no lead and put 50,000 more miles on that beast with no problems. 413's in MH's NEVER had hardened valve seats. The 440 is and was a great motor but it lacked some upgrading. Perhaps if Chrysler had solved their financial problems they would have solved the problems. The M600 chassis was light years ahead of the Chev P30. That M series chassis went on to become the Roadmaster used by Monaco. In many respects Chrysler was a real innovator. First unit body, Torqueflite tranny, torsion bar suspension( that one was not such a great idea) and much more. The 318 was an awesome powerplant as was the slant 6.

RE: Any 413 Dodge fans ?

jatlaxle: Wrong! The 413 never had hardened seats. The 440-3 had hardened seats in it's final years . Around 1976 or 77. I had a 78 with no hardened seats in out 78 Vogue. Chassis was a 77. Had lots of vapour locking. Perhaps your experience was NOT in a MH. Most MH's of that era had the vapour locking problem. The summer fuel was horrible, Trailer life was full of articles and cures for the vapour locking. 454's were even worse. Mostly due to the design of the engine compartments. Nowhere for the exhuast heat to go. PU trucks never had that problem. I could fill a whole page with all the mods to cure the problem. The last year of the 413 was 1972 (maybe 73?). Still had leaded gas and no reason for hardened seats. Remeber that in the mid 70's Chrysler was in big terouble. They had lost(or fired) a lot of the engineers and produced some very bad vehicles. No cash for R&D. Lost of parts from previous years were used to complete vehicles as no new designs were available. Same year vehicles had different parts. I was a parts man in those days and it was a nightmare!

RE: Any 413 Dodge fans ?

The best RV engine from Dodge was the 440-3! 413 parts are hard to find. Even the 440-3 takes a special stat and I dont think it is available. The original Carter carb is obsolete. Called Thermoquad Both the 440 and 413 overheated in RV applications. Vaporlocked! The 413 will not have hardened valve seats so you either have to modify the heads or find newer ones.
