RE: Class C RV Caulking

My understanding is that 3M 5200 is a sealant, not caulking. Two different products for two different applications.

RE: President's Club+Good Sams Junk mail

Go to the Good Sam website and opt out of receiving mail.
Yes, it takes some time to receive new card. You may not get one though. I heard, not sure if it is fact, that they are cutting costs on mailings. You need to write new expiration date on card. Sound strange to cut costs in one area and not in the massive mailing advertising areas.
I opted out of the mailings a long time ago. Now, if only I could do that with AARP! I haven't renewed our membership in years but the junk keeps coming...

RE: THE UGLY

Dryer Sheets, Dan. With little effort, they handle love bugs in Fl and anything Utah can throw at you. Just don't forget to wet them or you'll be there all day. Make sure they are used dryer sheets or they can leave a film. They really do work, though. Use a handful of them at a time.

RE: Marcus and his involvement here.

Keeping a finger on the customer's pulse is a good way to stay in business. He's got the right idea. I think what we've been saying for several years is Don't take us for granted. Just because we love RVing doesn't mean we're going to keep doing business with a company that doesn't care about its customers. Mr. Lemonis seems to be really turning things around!

RE: kicked out, ticket while boondocking

There are instances of BLM land boondockers in AZ who have been banned from BLM land because of infractions of the rules. And rightfully so. As others have said, make sure you know the rules and follow them.

RE: for diebetic and/or weight lose wishers

I'm not diabetic, nor am I overweight, but I love Dreyer's Slow Churned Sugar Free vanilla ice cream. It's delicious!!!! It does have 100 calories per 1/2c. serving but I can afford that for dessert.

RE: State Parks in Texas

For bird enthusiasts, you can't beat Goose Island State Park. Camping available, with lots of birds to view. As a bonus, there is Aransas National Nature Preserve about 20 miles northeast of Goose Island. Both areas are nesting sites for the Whooping Crane, plus dozens of other birds.
Another nice park is Bentsen State Park in the RGV. No camping there, and you have to stay in a RGV campground while you're there, but definitely worth it for a few days. LOTS of exotic birds there.
Yep, I didn't mention the birding but it's the best in the country. Big Bend is a terrific place for winter birding.

RE: State Parks in Texas

We spent one winter going from state park to state park in TX, mostly in the Hill Country, which we loved, but it did get quite cold in winter. Aside from state parks, we found Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredericksburg enjoyable. Big Bend NP can be pretty harsh in winter but we've been there in November (just about perfect), April (beautiful but windy) and late January-early February (cold, sleety to sunny and pleasant but not warm) and enjoyed it every time.
We tried dealing with the state park reservation system a few times and found it so frustrating we gave up and just took pot luck. Never once got turned away if we arrived by early afternoon. Stay at McKinney Falls SP near Austin and visit the capitol, the governor's mansion and the LBJ museum. Stay at Pedernales Falls SP near Jonshon City to visit the LBJ Ranch.
The Alamo is a must, of course, but you will love San Antonio in winter, all decorated for Christmas. We spent Christmas Day in Goliad State Park, an old mission, which was also decorated.
If you're looking for warm weather you probably need to go into the RGV but if you want to explore, west/central TX is your place.

Maybe they just made up the 'breakdown' so no one would make them leave that lovely spot! ;)

RE: Secure Storage

If it's another RV storage renter you should be able to find your license tab, as it is numbered. Maybe you would even recognize your tire!
We had a stored car stripped less than a week after storing it in a 'secure' storage area once. The perps went over the 8' fence, it wasn't an inside job. They knew exactly what parts they wanted and came and got them. I think 'secure storage' is a a contradiction in terms.

RE: Unhook or not

We never unhitched our TT for overnight stops. For one thing, I like being prepared to evacuate in case of a disaster or other emergency and staying hitched up would save some time. I don't unhook my toad if I don't need to drive it, either.

RE: An East/West comparison for RVers...

I have seen campers from eastern & midwestern states leave their bags of garbage at the front of their campsites as if someone was going to pick it up. The bears and raccoons love it.

RE: An East/West comparison for RVers...

Mowermech, you are right about conserving resources. But there are many state parks in the west with amenities, even including hookups. Some even have sewer hookups! IMHO, this is unnecessary and returning to dry camping might be a better way to reduce costs than closing parks altogether. Why have a self-contained RV if you need to have it hooked up every night?

RE: GPS warning

Since I travel alone now, I tried out a GPS to see if I liked it. I didn't. It's information is sometimes inaccurate in places I travel, the voice annoyed me no end and I found myself looking at the screen too often instead if the road. I've been a map person/navigator all my adult life and will stick to what works for me.

RE: I5 OMG

In the depression they had the WPA to build things. Gave people jobs. With all the highways and bridges in bad conditions maybe it would be a good idea to work on those projects during these times. However, if we wear out tires faster that also creates jobs. LOL. Sure, and all those loosened teeth make more work for dentists, too! :D

RE: I5 OMG

Certainly, I-5 in CA, at least south of Sacramento, is terrible. Not all freeways are bad! Oregon's I-84 and I-5 are both good through most of the state. It's a matter of priority. Here in WA, I-5 has been greatly improved (except for the traffic, of course).

I keep my dog in a secured soft crate while I'm driving. Otherwise, he'd be in my lap.
